Pretty static this week, but we get to see The Kid LAROI as both the biggest climber and highest new entry. He's higher in the singles chart than he's been since May 9, 2022, when 'Stay' was also at #16 and 'Thousand Miles' dropped 6-14 in its second week. Chappell Roan gets her second singles chart entry with 'HOT TO GO!', and NZ appears to be the first country to put 'You Look Like You Love Me' in its official top 40.
Three new entries in the album chart this week. Imagine Dragons don't quite match the #11 peak of Mercury Act 1, but they at least beat the #25 peak of Mercury Acts 1 & 2. Their best peak is still #3, for both Evolve and Origins. Camila Cabello actually beats, by one place, the #25 peak of her last release Familia, helped in part by the recurrent rules (which weren't in effect yet in 2022) but still. Unfortunately Megan Thee Stallion has her lowest peak to date, but her others didn't have high chart positions either (#22 for Good News and #27 for Traumazine).

I also remember hearing this for the first time, it was on the radio and the DJ introduced it as being a song with only 10 words in the lyrics. I was 8 and had little to no prior exposure to dance music, so it was a bit of a novelty for me, as was 'Blue' by Eiffel 65. And of course I thought Alice Deejay was the singer and thought that was a clever name for her. :P It wasn't quite as enduring of a hit in the US, so I forgot about it for most of the 2000s until I became a chart geek and realized how big it truly was.

Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Tallies 10th Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200
By Keith Caulfield | 06/30/2024
Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department achieves a 10th consecutive and total week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart (dated July 6). With a 10th week atop the list, Swift has now collected three albums with at least 10 weeks at No. 1, as it joins 1989 and Fearless, each with 11 weeks on top.
Swift is just the fifth act with three or more albums to spend 10 or more weeks at No. 1, standing alongside Whitney Houston (three albums, in 1986-93), The Beatles (four, 1964-67), The Kingston Trio (three, 1959-69) and Elvis Presley (four, 1956-61). Swift is the only act with three albums to spend at least 10 weeks at No. 1 this century.
The Tortured Poets Department earned 115,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending June 27 (down 9%), according to Luminate. The album debuted atop the chart dated May 4 and has yet to relinquish the No. 1 slot.
Swift adds her 79th career week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, extending her record among soloists. (Presley has the second-most among soloists, with 67.) The total encompasses her 14 No. 1 albums. (She’s tied with Jay-Z for the most No. 1s among soloists.)
Also in the top 10 of the latest Billboard 200, Gracie Abrams lands her first top 10-charting set and best week ever by units, as The Secret of Us bows at No. 2. Plus, Peso Pluma captures his second top five-charting effort with the No. 5 arrival of Éxodo.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.
Of The Tortured Poets Department’s 115,000 equivalent album units earned, SEA units comprise 87,000 (down 7% — it’s No. 1 on Top Streaming Albums for a 10 th week; its SEA units equal 113.21 million on-demand official streams of the deluxe edition’s 31 songs), album sales comprise 28,000 (down 16%) and TEA units comprise less than 1,000 (up 24%).
As noted above, Swift is the fifth act with three or more albums to spend 10 or more weeks at No. 1. She joins Whitney Houston (her self-titled album with 14 weeks in 1986, Whitney with 11 in 1987 and The Bodyguard soundtrack with 20 weeks in 1992-93); The Beatles (Meet the Beatles! with 11 in 1964, A Hard Day’s Night soundtrack with 14 in 1964, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band with 15 in 1967 and Abbey Road with 11 in 1969-70); The Kingston Trio (The Kingston Trio at Large with 15 in 1959, Sold Out with 12 in 1960 and String Along with 10 in 1960); and Elvis Presley (his self-titled album with 10 in 1956, the Loving You soundtrack with 10 in 1957, the G.I. Blues soundtrack with 15 in 1960-61 and the Blue Hawaii soundtrack with 20 in 1961-62).
As The Tortured Poets Department has spent its first 10 weeks at No. 1, it joins just four other albums that have achieved that same feat: Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time (first 12 weeks at No. 1, of its total 19 weeks at No. 1 in 2023-24); Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album (all 10 of its weeks at No. 1 were from its debut atop the chart, 2021); Whitney Houston’s Whitney (all 11 of its weeks at No. 1 were from its debut atop the chart, 1987); and Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life (first 13 weeks at No. 1, of its total 14 weeks at No. 1 in 1976). (For context, today it’s common for albums to debut at No. 1. However, before 1991, when the Billboard 200 began utilizing Luminate’s electronically monitored tracking information, only six albums debuted at No. 1, including Whitney and Songs in the Key of Life.)
The Tortured Poets Department is the first album by a woman to spend 10 weeks in a row at No. 1 since 2012, when Adele’s 21 strung together 10 straight weeks at No. 1 (of its total 24 nonconsecutive weeks atop the list) that January-March.
With 10 weeks at No. 1, The Tortured Poets Department is one week away from tying Swift’s personal record for her most weeks atop the list, as both 1989 and Fearless each notched 11 weeks at No. 1.
In the 21st century, only 11 albums including The Tortured Poets Department have spent at least 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Swift has three of them (1989 and Fearless, each with 11, and Poets with 10), Adele (21, with 24, and 25, with 10) and Wallen (One Thing at a Time, 19, and Dangerous: The Double Album, 10) each have two; and while Bad Bunny (Un Verano Sin Ti, 13), Drake (Views, 13), the Frozen soundtrack (13) and SZA (SOS, 10) represent the rest of the No. 1s with 10 or more weeks on top since the turn of the century.
Gracie Abrams scores her highest-charting album, and first top 10, on the Billboard 200 as her second full-length studio set, The Secret of Us, debuts at No. 2 with 89,000 equivalent album units earned, also her best week by units. Of that sum, album sales comprise 50,000 (her best sales week ever — it’s the top-selling album of the week and debuts at No. 1 on Top Album Sales), SEA units comprise 38,000 (equaling 47.57 million on-demand official streams of the set’s 13 songs) and TEA units comprise 1,000.
Abrams previously charted with her debut full-length effort, Good Riddance, which debuted and peaked at No. 52 in March of 2023. The recent Grammy nominee for best new artist made her Billboard Hot 100 songs chart arrival later in 2023, when Noah Kahan’s “Everywhere, Everything,” featuring Abrams, hit No. 79 in December. On the June 22, 2024-dated chart, the new album’s “Close to You” debuted at No. 49.
After Good Riddance debuted, Abrams joined her pal Swift as an opening act for 29 dates of the latter’s stadium-filling The Eras Tour between April and August 2023. She’ll rejoin Swift as an opening act come October, when The Eras Tour returns to the U.S. and Canada, staying on through the trek’s final show in Vancouver on Dec. 8.
During the new album’s release week, Abrams joined Swift onstage in London (June 23) at Wembley Stadium during The Eras Tour for the first live performance of the album’s “Us,” featuring Swift.
The first-week sales of The Secret of Us was supported by the album’s availability across seven vinyl variants (all color variations, two of which were signed and exclusive to Abrams’ webstore, as well as one that was exclusive to Target with an alternative cover). Vinyl sales accounted for 41,000 of the album’s total sales for the week — her best week on vinyl, and the sixth-largest week for a vinyl set in 2024.
Morgan Wallen’s chart-topping One Thing at a Time rises 4-3 on the Billboard 200 with 73,000 equivalent album units earned (up less than 1%) and
Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft dips 2-4 with 70,000 (down 17%).
Peso Pluma lands his second top five-charting album as Éxodo enters at No. 5 with 64,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, SEA units comprise essentially all of that sum, equaling 87.51 million on-demand official streams of the album’s 24 songs. (Album sales and TEA units comprise less than 1,000 units combined; the album was available to purchase only as a digital download.) The guest-laden effort includes collaborations with Anitta, Cardi B, DJ Snake, Eslabon Armado, Junior H, Quavo and Rich the Kid, among many others.
The success story of Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess continues to add new chapters, as the album rises 8-6 (a new peak) on the Billboard 200 with 61,000 equivalent album units earned (up 32%), a new single-week high in units for the artist. Of that sum, album sales comprise 15,000 (up 87%, her best sales week yet) and SEA units comprise 46,000 (up 21%, equaling 60.5 million official on-demand streams of the set’s 14 songs — its best streaming week yet).
Morgan Wallen’s former leader Dangerous: The Double Album bumps 10-7 on the Billboard 200 with 43,000 equivalent album units earned (down 1%).
Ariana Grande’s chart-topping Eternal Sunshine returns to the top 10, vaulting 23-8 with 41,000 units (up 87% thanks largely to sales of a signed CD sold exclusively in Grande’s webstore for a limited time).
Rounding out the top 10 of the new Billboard 200 are Charli XCX’s Brat (holding at No. 9 with nearly 41,000; down 8%) and Shaboozey’s Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going (rising 12-10 with almost 41,000; up 1%).
With Swift, Abrams, Eilish, Chappell Roan, Grande and Charli XCX at Nos. 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 9, respectively, there are six albums by women in the top 10 for the first time since the Jan. 27-dated chart. That week, Kali Uchis, Nicki Minaj, SZA and Swift were in the top 10, with Swift holding three titles in the region. Further, this week marks the first time there are at least six different women (or women-led acts) in the top 10 in nearly five years. It last happened on the Sept. 21, 2019-dated chart, with Swift’s Lover (No. 1), Melanie Martinez’s K-12 (No. 3), Lizzo’s Cuz I Love You (No. 6), Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (No. 8), Lana Del Rey’s Norman ******* Rockwell! (No. 9) and all-women band The Highwomen’s self-titled album (No. 10).

Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, rebounds from No. 2 for a sixth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. The song, Post Malone’s sixth leader and Wallen’s second, spent its first five weeks on the list at No. 1 beginning upon its debut in May.
The collaboration is the first to log six weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in 2024, surpassing the five weeks on top, of six total dating to late 2023, for Jack Harlow’s “Lovin on Me.” No song has led longer since Wallen’s “Last Night” rang up 16 weeks, nonconsecutively, at No. 1 in March-August last year.
“I Had Some Help” also hits No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart, becoming a rare title that has topped the all-format airplay tally as well as the Country Airplay survey.
Plus, Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” rises to a new No. 2 Hot 100 high; Kendrick Lamar’s former leader “Not Like Us” jumps 6-3, and returns to No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart, following his Juneteenth The Pop Out: Ken & Friends concert – in which he performed the track five times; and Sabrina Carpenter claims two songs in the Hot 100’s top five for a third week.
Below is a rundown of the latest Hot 100’s top 10.
“I Had Some Help,” on Mercury/Big Loud/Republic, adds a sixth week at No. 1 on the Hot 100, with 76.5 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 5%), 39.1 million official streams (down 3%) and 12,000 sold (down 8%) in the U.S. June 21-27.
The team-up climbs 2-1 on Radio Songs – becoming Post Malone’s second leader, after “Circles” dominated for 11 weeks in 2019-20, and Wallen’s first. It also keeps at No. 3 after two weeks atop Digital Song Sales, and slips 2-4 after it led Streaming Songs chart in its debut week.
As it leads Country Airplay for a second week, “I Had Some Help” becomes just the sixth song to have topped the Country Airplay and all-format Radio Songs charts, dating to the lists’ 1990 inceptions (and the latter’s 1998 expansion to include country panelists, among other format reporters). Below is a recap, with all six songs having achieved both country and pop/adult radio success, as they have all reached the top 10 on the Pop Airplay, Adult Pop Airplay and Adult Contemporary charts in addition to their Country Airplay coronations.
Plus, “I Had Some Help” hits No. 1 in just its eighth week on Radio Songs, by far the fastest trip to the top among the six hits below.
Radio Songs No. 1s That Have Also Topped Country Airplay:
*Weeks to No. 1 on Radio Songs in ()
“I Had Some Help,” Post Malone feat. Morgan Wallen, one week at No. 1, to date, on Radio Songs, July 6, 2024 (8)
“Fast Car,” Luke Combs, four weeks, 2023 (16)
“I Hope,” Gabby Barrett feat. Charlie Puth (Barrett was solely credited on Country Airplay; Puth joined for its pop remix), one, 2020 (35)
“Meant To Be,” Bebe Rexha & Florida Georgia Line, five weeks, 2018 (14)
“Need You Now,” Lady A, two, 2010 (26)
“You Belong With Me,” Taylor Swift, two, 2009 (21)
“I Had Some Help” concurrently rules the multimetric Songs of the Summer chart for a fifth week and Hot Country Songs for a seventh frame.
Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” ascends 3-2 for a new Hot 100 best.
The track leads Digital Song Sales for a seventh week (22,000 sold, up 7%). It boasts the most weeks at No. 1 on the chart by a soloist in the 2020s; among all acts, only BTS’ “Butter” (2021) and “Dynamite” (2020-12) have spent more time on top, 18 weeks each, this decade.
Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which ruled the Hot 100 in its debut week in May, bounds 6-3, following his Juneteenth The Pop Out: Ken & Friends concert – in which he performed the seething diss track five times – at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif.
The single flies 6-1 for a fourth week atop Streaming Songs, up 30% to 45.4 million streams, good for top Streaming Gainer honors on the Hot 100. It’s also up 101% to 8,000 sold as it wins the Hot 100’s top Sales Gainer award.
The track rules the multimetric Hot Rap Songs chart for a seventh week and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a fifth week.
Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please” falls to No. 5 on the Hot 100, a week after it became her first No. 1, and “Espresso” holds at No. 4 after reaching No. 3.
“Please Please Please” earns the Hot 100’s top Airplay Gainer nod (9.7 million in audience, up 203%). It soars onto the Pop Airplay chart (helped by multiple radio-friendly edits) at No. 24; “Espresso” rises 3-2 for a new Pop Airplay high and prior single “Feather,” which became Carpenter’s first No. 1 on the chart in April, ranks at No. 12. She is the only artist with three songs on the survey.
Carpenter notches a third week with two songs in the Hot 100’s top five simultaneously – she remains the only act with multiple such frames in 2024.
Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby” backtracks 5-6 on the Hot 100, after hitting No. 2. It tops the multimetric Hot R&B Songs chart for a ninth week.
Hozier’s “Too Sweet” is steady at No. 7 on the Hot 100, following a week at No. 1 in April. It leads the multimetric Hot Rock Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts for a 13th week each and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs for a 12th week.
The rest of the Hot 100’s top 10 is likewise stationary, with Benson Boone’s No. 2-peaking “Beautiful Things” at No. 8, Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which reigned for a week in March, at No. 9 and Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” at No. 10 after hitting No. 9.

Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ Hops to No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100
By Gary Trust | 7/8/2024
Shaboozey hoists “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, marking his first leader on the list.
The track concurrently rebounds for a fourth week atop the Hot Country Songs chart, which uses the same multimetric methodology as the Hot 100. Previously, no song by a Black man, or one known to be biracial, had previously topped both charts. He is the second Black artist overall to achieve the feat – following Beyoncé with “Texas Hold ‘Em” earlier this year.
Virgina native Shaboozey (born Collins Obinna Chibueze) charted two Hot 100 hits, in April, prior to “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” both from Beyoncé’s LP Cowboy Carter: “Spaghettii” (also with Linda Martell; No. 31 peak) and “Sweet * Honey * Buckiin’ ” (No. 61).
“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is from Shaboozey’s LP Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, which debuted at its No. 5 high on the Billboard 200 in June. It has reached No. 2 on Top Country Albums and leads the Americana/Folk Albums chart for a third week.
Of his breakthrough this year, the 29-year-old, who has been releasing music for a decade, recently mused to Billboard, “We were pretty prepared for this moment.”
Also in the latest Hot 100 top 10, Chappell Roan achieves her first top 10 as “Good Luck, Babe!” ascends a spot to No. 10.
Below is a rundown of the latest Hot 100’s top 10.
“A Bar Song (Tipsy),” on American Dogwood/EMPIRE/Magnolia Music – all of whom, like Shaboozey, appear atop the Hot 100 for the first time – reigns with 60 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 11%, good for top Airplay Gainer honors on the Hot 100), 44.8 million official streams (up 10%) and 23,000 sold (up 6%) in the United States June 28-July 4.
The single leads the Digital Song Sales chart for an eighth week, rises 3-1 for its first week atop Streaming Songs, where it’s Shaboozey’s first leader, and reaches the top five (7-4) on Radio Songs.
Reflecting its mass appeal, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is the first song ever to go top 10 on all four of these Billboard radio charts: Country Airplay, Pop Airplay, Adult Pop Airplay and Rhythmic Airplay. (Only 13 songs overall have appeared at all on all four format rankings, with the lists having coexisted since March 1996.)
The track enters the top five on Rhythmic Airplay (7-5) and the top 10 on Country Airplay (12-6) and pushes 10-8 on both Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay.
“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” interpolates J-Kwon’s hip-hop classic “Tipsy” – with the pair having performed a mash-up of the tracks June 30 at the 2024 BET Awards.
Upon its coronation, “A Bar Song” surpasses the Hot 100 peak of “Tipsy,” which hit No. 2 in April 2004. The latter also ruled Hot Rap Songs for five weeks that year. Thanks to “A Bar Song,” J-Kwon lands his first Hot 100 No. 1 as a credited writer. Shaboozey also co-wrote the song.
“I had been wanting to flip a 2000s song for a while,” Shaboozey told Billboard. “I just said, ‘Everybody at the bar getting tipsy …’ [One of the song’s producers] picked up the guitar and started playing the chords and then we started writing, just having fun and being creative.”
“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is the first song by Black male artist, or one known to be biracial, to top both the Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs. He is the second Black artist overall to score the honor, following Beyoncé with “Texas Hold ‘Em” earlier in 2024.
Meanwhile, “A Bar Song” is the 28th hit to have topped both the Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs, dating to 1958, when the former originated and the latter became the country genre’s singular Billboard chart. It’s the third such song of 2024, after four topped the Hot 100 in 2023, the most in a year since 1975. It’s also the eighth this decade, after only two led over the previous 36 years.

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is the 1,174th No. 1 in the Hot 100’s nearly-66-year history, and joins only 10 others with the word “song” in their titles. It’s the first such leader in over 33 years; seven of them hit No. 1 in the 1970s.
Here’s a “song”-by-“song” recap:
“A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Shaboozey, 2024
“Because I Love You (The Postman Song),” Stevie B, 1990
“There’ll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry),” Billy Ocean, 1986
“Escape (The Pina Colada Song),” Rupert Holmes, 1979-80
“Silly Love Songs,” Wings, 1976
“I Write the Songs,” Barry Manilow, 1976
“(Hey Won’t You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song,” B.J. Thomas, 1975
“Annie’s Song,” John Denver, 1974
“Killing Me Softly With His Song,” Roberta Flack, 1973
“Song Sung Blue,” Neil Diamond, 1972
“The Chipmunk Song,” The Chipmunks with David Seville, 1958-59
Notably, Shaboozey never sings the full title in “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” Neither in their hits above do Stevie B, Rupert Holmes, John Denver or any of the Chipmunks (Simon, Theodore or … Alvin!)
Bookending the Hot 100’s top 10, Chappell Roan makes her first appearance in the region as “Good Luck, Babe!” rises to No. 10 from No. 11. The song drew 20.9 million streams (essentially even week-over-week) and 16 million in airplay audience (up 20%) and sold 15,000 (up 342%, as it wins the chart’s top Sales Gainer award; 11,000 physical copies shipped during the tracking week).
The song is a stand-alone single by the Missouri native, as her latest album, and first Billboard 200 entry, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, reaches the chart’s top five. She wrote the song with Dan Nigro and Justin Tranter; the former (who solely produced it) adds his seventh top 10 as a writer, with the prior six recorded by Olivia Rodrigo, and the latter earns their 10th.
Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, dips to No. 2 on the Hot 100 following six nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning in May. It rules Radio Songs for a second week (79.7 million, up 4%) and the multimetric Songs of the Summer chart for a sixth week.
Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which ruled the Hot 100 in its debut week in May, holds at No. 3. It tops the multimetric Hot Rap Songs chart for an eighth week and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a sixth week.
Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” keeps at No. 4 on the Hot 100, after reaching No. 3, and her “Please Please Please” backtracks 5-6, two weeks after it became her first No. 1. Thanks to those two hits and Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” at No. 10, Island Records claims three songs in the top 10 simultaneously for the first time under the label’s current organization within Universal Music Group (which has been in place since early 2014).
In between Carpenter’s songs on the Hot 100, Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby” rises 6-5, after hitting No. 2, as it leads the multimetric Hot R&B Songs chart for a 10th week.
Hozier’s “Too Sweet” is stationary at No. 7 on the Hot 100, following a week at No. 1 in April. It commands the multimetric Hot Rock Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts for a 14th week each and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs for a 13th week.
Benson Boone’s No. 2-peaking “Beautiful Things” repeats at No. 8 on the Hot 100 and Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which led for a week in March, is steady at No. 9.
