That comparison is especially apt now as 'Fearless', still Taylor's best-selling album here, has just this week passed 7 million copies sold. That album's been out for 7 years whereas '25' will have that many sales in just five weeks! So '25' has now already passed the total sales to date of '1989' - once again showing how different a league Adele is in compared to every single other artist, considering Taylor herself is pretty much in a league of her own compared to all non-Adele artists!------------------------------
Billboard 200 Chart Moves: Taylor Swift's 'Fearless' Surpasses 7 Million Sold in U.S.
12/23/2015 by Keith Caulfield
On the most recent Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Jan. 2, 2016; but reflecting data for the week ending Dec. 17, 2015), Adele’s 25 held firm at No. 1 while the top debut on the list was The Voice winner Jordan Smith at No. 11.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
Let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the chart:
— Pentatonix, That’s Christmas To Me - No. 3 — The album sold another 127,000 copies in the week ending Dec. 17 (up 1 percent), bringing its cumulative total to over 1.5 million – 1.62 million to be more precise. The 2014 release (which was reissued in 2015 with bonus tracks) has sold more than the combined total of the group’s six other albums and EPs (1.34 million).
— Taylor Swift, 1989 – No. 9 — The former No. 1 album -- now in its 60th week on the chart -- returns to the top 10 (rising 12-9) to snag a 55th nonconsecutive week in the region. The album lingered in the top 10 for its first 53 chart weeks. Since the Billboard 200 combined its mono and stereo albums charts in 1963 into one all-encompassing weekly albums chart, Swift is the only act to have earned more than one album with more than 50 weeks in the top 10, with both 1989 and Fearless (58 weeks in the top 10). The record for the most weeks in the top 10 during that span of time is held by The Sound of Music film soundtrack, with 109 weeks.
In other Swift news, her Fearless album surpasses 7 million in total U.S. sales, as it moved another 3,000 copies in the week ending Dec. 17 to bring its total to 7,001,000. The album, released in 2008, continues to rule as Swift’s biggest-selling effort.
— Ryan Adams, 1989 – No. 84 — Ryan Adams’ interpretation of Taylor Swift’s 1989 returns to the list, reentering at No. 84, thanks to the vinyl LP release of his album. It debuts at No. 2 on the Vinyl Albums chart with 7,000 copies sold, which helps the album’s overall rank on the Billboard 200 (10,000 units; up 236 percent, and nearly 10,000 in pure album sales; up 296 percent).
— Twenty One Pilots, Blurryface - No. 13 — The album’s total sales rise past a half-million, as it sold another 29,000 in the week ending Dec. 17. The set’s cumulative sum now stands at 505,000 and is their first half-million seller. (Their previous album, Vessel, has moved 375,000 copies.)
— Soundtrack, The Wiz Live! - No. 155 — The companion album to NBC live staging of the musical arrives with 7,000 units and 6,000 in pure album sales. The Wiz was the network’s third yearly live musical staging following The Sound of Music Live! in 2013 and Peter Pan Live! in 2014. While The Sound of Music Live! soundtrack reached No. 17 on the Billboard in 2013 (and has sold 121,000 copies to date), the Peter Pan Live! album missed all of Billboard’s charts (and has moved just 3,000).

Adele's '25' Biggest Selling Album Released Since 2011, Spends Fourth Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200
12/20/2015 by Keith Caulfield
‘25’ has sold more copies in the U.S. than any album released since Adele's own ‘21,’ which bowed in 2011.
As expected, Adele’s 25 holds at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for a fourth week -- and by a large margin. The set earned 825,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Dec. 17 (up 13 percent), according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 790,000 were in pure album sales (up 14 percent).
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Jan. 2, 2016-dated chart (where Adele is No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, Dec. 22.
In 25’s first four weeks of release, it sold 5.98 million copies. With its most recent sales week, 25 has surpassed the sales of Taylor Swift’s 1989 (5.57 million) to become the biggest selling album released in the U.S. since Adele’s last album, 21, which was issued in 2011. It has sold 11.37 million.
25 is also now the largest selling album of any calendar year since 2004, when Usher’s Confessions sold 7.98 million.
Further, 25 is the only album to sell in excess of 695,000 copies in four different weeks (or three, for that matter) since Nielsen Music began tracking point-of-sale purchases in 1991. The album bowed with 3.38 million sold in its first week, then sold 1.11 million in its second frame, and then 695,000 in week three.
There are still two more tracking weeks left in the 2015 calendar year -- the weeks ending Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. As the Dec. 24 week closes on the day before Christmas -- thus capturing a full seven days of last-minute holiday shopping -- 25’s sales are sure to surge. 25 could even capture another million-selling week.
In other Adele news, 21 returns to the top 10 on the latest Billboard 200, climbing 14-10 with 49,000 units (up 42 percent) and 40,000 in pure album sales (up 46 percent). Her first album, 19, is also in the top 40, as it rises 48-36 with 21,000 units (up 29 percent) and 18,000 in pure sales (up 36 percent).
Adele’s cumulative album sales -- for her three studio efforts and two digital-only live sets for iTunes -- jump past 20 million: to 20.28 million.
As for artists not named Adele in the top 10… Justin Bieber’s Purpose ascends a spot to No. 2 (166,000 units; up 10 percent), while Pentatonix’s That’s Christmas to Me is up 4-3 (141,000 units; up 1 percent). One Direction’s Made in the A.M. vaults 8-4 (67,000 units; up 11 percent), The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness steps 10-5 (63,000 units; up 29 percent) and Chris Stapleton’s Traveller moves 9-6 (62,000 units; up 22 percent). Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams falls 2-7 in its second week (61,000 units; down 71 percent) while both Michael Buble’s Christmas (11-8 with 50,000 units; up 5 percent) and Taylor Swift’s 1989 (12-9 with 49,000 units; up 28 percent) return to the top 10.
Just outside the top 10, The Voice winner Jordan Smith arrives at No. 11 with The Complete Season 9 Collection (48,000 units; 8,000 in pure album sales). The set had the highest track equivalent unit total of an album on the chart this week: 40,000 units, owed to the strong sales of the tracks on the album. It’s no surprise then to see that Smith dominates the top of the Digital Songs chart, with four titles in the top 20, including the No. 1: “Mary, Did You Know” (a debut with 161,000 downloads).
Justin Bieber's 'Purpose' Becomes His Fifth Million-Selling Album in U.S.
12/21/2015 by Keith Caulfield
Justin Bieber has earned his fifth million-selling album in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music. The pop star's latest album, Purpose, has now surpassed 1 million total copies sold.
The set sold another 100,000 copies in the latest tracking week, bringing its total sum in pure album sales to 1.01 million. Bieber's other million sellers are: Believe (released in 2012, 1.61 million), Under the Mistletoe (2011, 1.51 million), My World 2.0 (2010, 3.33 million) and My World (2009, 2.08 million).
Purpose is just the third album released in 2015 to sell one million copies. It joins Adele's 25 (5.98 million) and Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late (1.12 million).
Additionally, Purpose only took five weeks to reach a million sold -- the quickest trip to a million for Bieber thus far. His previous quickest rise to a million sold with an album was with Under the Mistletoe, which took seven weeks to reach the mark.
Purpose debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated Dec. 5, giving Bieber his sixth chart-topping album. It bowed with 649,000 equivalent album units and 522,000 in pure album sales.

Jason Derulo "Cheyenne"
I’m sure I said it in last year’s thread, and maybe even the year before that, so I’ll say it again: did anyone think Jason Derulo would still be a significant popstar this many years after his debut? Even with the occasional shameless hit/guilty pleasure like "Talk Dirty" and "Wiggle", it’s still impressive. He’s even been a less divisive artist on Buzzjack as of late, which is most understandable when I listen to "Cheyenne" and mostly hear the 80s-esque pop-funk vibes of "Style" by Taylor Swift, down to the similar guitar/synth combination. It’s a style (pardon me) of pop that I’m not overly fond of, but both songs grew on me anyway, and the similarities made this seem like a good single choice.
The question of what went wrong here is very baffling, because it underperformed in all the major countries. Especially the UK, where "Want To Want Me" was a four-week #1 and this missed the top 100 entirely!?!? I was hoping for Jason to perform it on X Factor, but the impact date had been left so late anyway that he must have given up on it by then. Hopefully things turn around with the next single so Jason’s surprising longevity can continue for another year.

Imagine Dragons "Roots"
Imagine Dragons "Shots"
Imagine Dragons had such a strong debut, one of very few current bands that can score a handful of chart hits from one album without being overly pop like Maroon 5. It wasn’t likely they’d be able to follow that up just as successfully, but as long as the music was okay I’d be satisfied. Well, it was more than okay! "Roots" comes from the recent rerelease of Smoke + Mirrors and takes their sound in a hip-hop direction. While the verses aren’t so great, everything comes together in the chorus, with a strong hook that fits the surrounding layers of rhythm very nicely.
Going in reverse chronological order here, "Shots" was the previous single over the summer and one of the band’s catchiest yet to my ears. An upbeat song like this was certainly welcomed although the lyrics were very much in contrast to it. It was the perfect choice for second single in my opinion, but in the UK they opted for "Warriors", a soundtrack song and inferior "Radioactive" soundalike. And even here the airplay for "Shots" seemed to be split between the original album version and the Broiler remix, which to be fair is brilliant! Neither one could keep their run of hits going, but the lack of overplay means it’s still sounding fantastic.

Photograph is a weird one, I want to love it but find myself among the majority that find it boring. My opinion seems to change based on when I hear it, if it's on the radio I usually skip to another station but just yesterday I heard it at a restaurant and thought WOW, this is stunning! Maybe it just starts slow because it seems to really click once the drums come in.

Hailee Steinfeld "Love Myself"
Believe it or not it’s been 5 years since Hailee starred in True Grit and got her first Oscar nomination. I actually had never watched her acting until this year when I saw her in Pitch Perfect 2. I wasn’t too impressed but that was probably a result of the movie not being as good as the first. But now we know she can sing, and suddenly she’s started to launch her music career. I was surprised at the hype for "Love Myself" before its release, although half of it was coming from Ryan. For some reason I was expecting it to be country, or else something very unremarkable, but instead heard a stunning pop anthem and was blown away!
Sadly, "Love Myself" didn’t become the definitive smash it had potential to be. Sometimes I swear American radio just collectively gives up on a song even when it’s selling decently, and in this case it vanished before the UK or Australia could take notice and give it some redemption. I’m not confident yet that Hailee will be getting an album out (Becky G had a bigger hit last year and still hasn’t released hers!) but it’s best to remain optimistic if this is any indication of how good it could sound. While I try to save some commentary on this for later, I will also definitely make an effort to listen to her EP!

Thanks Adam! I really don't know how either because I'm the exact opposite when trying to write anything else :lol:I don't know how you write so much for each Jordan, but the effort and passion is second to none!Love Carly Rae & Demi so far! Excited for the rest :D
Thanks Lewis! That article says he was born in 1989, now that's three different years he was born :drama:I guess this is the reason he was removed from the song. http://www.hotnewhiphop.com/fetty-wap-expl...news.18126.htmlI love them two Fifth Harmony songs as well.
Hi Josh! Yeah it's definitely a complete jam no matter what version. And you're right, 5H were great in the "Worth It" video. I figured they'd push "Sledgehammer" in the UK afterwards and another song in the US, how very bizarre.Hi RiserSuch a big fan of 679, loved the original the most but did get used to the new version eventually, it's just 100% jam material from start to finish. I like My Way too but this is his best for me
Sledgehammer was a lovely track to get them more established, had a really polished sound to it and it was catchy too - then they unleashed the pop monster that is Worth It, so much fun and shows off their star power in the video too. Agree with you it is weird they just left it at that? :/
I've previewed Fetty's album and it does sound pretty samey. I'm not sold on him as an artist yet except for this song and a couple others.679 a good vibe to that but I dare say he'll ever come close to topping Trap Queen for me. The album was a bit all too samey also.Sledgehammer is definitely my favourite of FH's hits - really is a perfect pop song.
My House the song I wasn't big on, nor was I the EP - Here It Is probably the only song I revisit.
"Sledgehammer" is my favorite so far too! Even though I called it faceless, it's really just formulaic and that's no bad thing!
Haven't listened to "Here It Is" but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks Dobbo!
I'm sure there's more you will like so keep checking back! :DFifth Harmony that is all oops
:wave:FIFTH HARMONY    -
Was hoping for an obvious winner this time so I'm pleased with the result! :D Actually I thought Petite Meller would take this easily so I am surprised to some extent. Other than that, none of my faves did too well except Land of DW. Cheers Jahq for the great hosting
and keeping the Showbiz to a minimum! -
Yay Phases :cheer: I love watching and re-watching the video for that as well. Looking like a great top 10 so far! 'Overload' sounded bland to me at first but grew on me massively, surely could have been an official chart hit with more of a push. I've liked a few Spoon songs over the years but 'Inside Out' was a fantastic return to form for them, so captivating

Yeah, but the song they picked was pretty much the worst song imaginable, with a cringeworthy title and generic inspirational lyrics. So, originals can be bad too!I remember American Idol had a songwriting contest at one point where the selected song would be sang by the winner. I think that would work well for the X Factor. It's time to abandon these boring cover versions!I quite like this as well, but winner's singles' success is in decline everywhere else so no surprise it's happening here also. Something more radio-friendly would have made a lot more sense but fingers crossed she'll move on from this quickly.
