  1. :hi: Jordan

Who doesn't love a bit of Justin Timberlake? :kink:

I actually really liked the 20/20 experience as a whole, Not A Bad Thing isn't the strongest but it's lovely

No no no no no, not Wiggle :drama: Worst song this year imo! WHY Jordan!?

    :kink:

    :hi:!!

Doesn't love Justin Timberlake? Is that even possible? :kink:

Yes yes yes yes yes, yes Wiggle. Because ^_^

Yeah I didn't make it clear but what I meant was that it's easier said than done to leave the pronunciation of 'sammich' aside like you said! It's something that's always irritated me in the song so I know I couldn't do it!
    Oops my bad [2].

Sammich seems very unappreciated on Buzzjack, it's very sad :( Given how fast he sings it I think it'd sound weirder/worse with sandwich pronounced properly.

    Me :kink:
    :o!!!

I think Nelly was referring to Michael but this is news!! I just thought you hated one song

  2. 'Not A Bad Thing'. One of my favourite surprise hits of the year.

Easier said than done :drama:. Also, in what way is 'Trumpets' wholesome?!

By the way, I'm enjoying reading your very insightful commentaries, especially all the little facts you include :D.

    By Jason's standards
But that's not saying much is it? Oops my bad.

"Sammich" is a fairly popular way to pronounce "sandwich" in America. If you try it enough times you'll get the hang of it ^_^

That J section commentary contains some of the worst songs of the year :puke2: Not a bad thing is awful and a 0/10 track but compared to the other 3 it is a 10/10 masterpiece. The other 3 made my worst 10 (possibly even worst 5, all of me and wiggle did but I'm not sure about trumpets) songs of the year. Trumpets is awful, wiggle is disgusting horrible and terrible and screech screech screech screech screech screech screech is screechy and the worst song this year :puke2:
Sorry  Hopefully there will be other songs more to your liking!
  3. NZ singles chart has integrated audio streaming data now. Their rate is 175 streams = 1 download sale.
Ah, thanks for mentioning that! Explains the rebound for "Geronimo" and "Stay With Me". I've always thought the pace of the NZ chart was really good so hopefully streaming won't ruin that.

  4. I would imagine most countries have a distinct lack of charting Xmas songs compared to the UK! Billboard does publish a Holiday 100 so you can see which festive songs are doing the best under Hot 100 criteria.

I HIGHLY recommend Trans-Siberian Orchestra, since Bré mentioned them! It's actually a band, they are very popular here and deservedly so, amazing rock classics *.*

  5. Oh wow, that section! "White Walls" is a huge fave of mine too, it never got old and the chorus is just spectacular. I listened to some of Hollis's other music recently and found some gems.

"Lovers On The Sun" is awesome, deserved a better chart run officially as well. Also excited to see "Show Me" here, very underappreciated! Kid Ink seems great and I agree about "Main Chick" :D

    Jason Derulo "Trumpets"

Jason Derulo featuring Snoop Dogg "Wiggle"

    http://0.tqn.com/y/top40/1/L/h/m/3/jason-derulo-trumpets.jpghttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2c/Wiggle_Jason_Derulo.png

This post has a few songs that are...well, let's say they're underappreciated. "Trumpets" is a Jason Derulo song, which is enough for people to write it off, but not me. By Jason's standards it's actually quite wholesome and semi-romantic, but leave it to Jason to offset those good characteristics with some very, very high-pitched vocals. Doesn't bother me though, really. I like trumpets and therefore thought it was a clever song idea, but it does in comparison to "The Other Side" from last year.

"Wiggle" did sound pretty bad at first, but I'm a sucker for disposable novelty so was bound to like it eventually. Everything (lyrics aside (pronunciation of 'sammich' aside)) is entirely on point. I especially love the intro, sounds like a Western movie or something idk. I appreciate Jason's singles all sounding very different. He remains a rather faceless popstar but for better or worse he made a serious effort to change that in the past two years, and so far it's paid off. "Whatcha Say" is five years old now, did anyone really expect him to still have a career in 2014? It's too bad he couldn't relaunch Jordin Sparks' career while he had the chance.

    John Legend "All Of Me"

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/4f/Allofmejohnlegend.jpg

"All Of Me" looked like a potential hit as it was being cherry-picked from John's album Love In The Future on US iTunes last summer, and finally began its world domination as an Australian #1 around this time last year. For a while I thought it might end there, but John performed it at the Grammy Awards which helped the song take off for good. Not the most popular opinion but I would have been disappointed if this hadn't reached its chart potential! Maybe you would have liked "All Of Me" to never reach the top 40, but too bad.

Even despite its potential I'd say "All Of Me" far exceeded anyone's expectations, both with his near-record-breaking UK chart run and his three weeks atop the Hot 100. Except for a month or so when this was just past its peak, it hasn't gotten old for me and hopefully never will be. It was hard at first to think of John's biggest hit no longer being "Ordinary People" but there's no looking back now!

Justin Timberlake "Not A Bad Thing"

    http://www.josepvinaixa.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Justin-Timberlake-Not-a-Bad-Thing-2014-1200x1200-300x300.png

The 20/20 Experience had a surprise happy ending, with one last hit following the underperforming "Take Back The Night" and "TKO". The support for "Not A Bad Thing" seemed to come from nowhere, especially when everything since "Mirrors" had been lukewarm at best. Sometimes I can get into this and sometimes I can't. Has its good moments but otherwise is just "there", inoffensive radio filler. I just wish "Not A Bad Thing" hadn't overshadowed his previous singles! The most confusing thing was the radio edit, which turned "look around" into "f**k around", so the radio edit needed a censor when the original didn't.

  7. Riser, you should know that I hate FGL, sorry :teresa:
    No worries :D

Fancy is stunning and easily one of the best songs of the year, it all took a long time to grow on me  I also really enjoy beg for it and on top of the world is great and by far imagine dragons best song
    Oh yay!

Ultra, just a warning but you're not going to like my next post. You may not want to read it. ;)

Beg for it is a bit meh :( It's sad cause everything else she's released is amazing! I think I'm going to give Imagine Dragons a try, what song do you recommend I listen to first?
Ooh good question! I asked Noahspike for help and we'd say "Demons", because if you like that it's a good sign you'll like their other songs ^_^ And now I see Josh's post and he agrees! :D

Fancy really is huge, hoping it is down as a 2010s future classic now. I much much prefer Black Widow though. I agree they should've tried Work again in the US because it's one of her best but for me her second best is Change Your Life. She's a v good rapper but Nicki > .

On Top OF The World is one of my fave Dragons singles too, but Demons is definitely their best for me. Hoping for another big era for them but I agree IBML is a little bit disappointing..

Yes, very good points! We're on the same page then except I don't care as much for Black Widow or Change Your Life.

Drop this and let the whole world feel it. And the whole world finally did take notice of Iggy Azalea with this song, so good call on her part! "Fancy" lived long past its early-spring release to become the song of the summer, a feat no one would have predicted after "Change Your Life". I was as shocked as anyone else by the initial reaction to "Fancy" on Buzzjack; for me this was not the grower that it was for seemingly many others. On the other hand, the reactions from people in real life were overwhelmingly positive, and it was all kinds of fun to witness Iggy finally being embraced by the masses.

Another smash follows ("Black Widow"), and surely nothing could stop Iggy's momentum from there? Oops. I may be speaking too soon as a video is supposedly still coming, but for now "Beg For It" is just sitting there, with little buzz to speak of. To be fair there's nothing really special about it; a re-release of "Work" or "Bounce" would have been more eventful. It's a tough call for the UK where those were already released, but "Work" was cherry-picked a lot in the US and could have done well with airplay. And "Bounce" is my fave of hers so I'm just selfish about that one. But really a phenomenal year for Iggy, why dwell on one non-event of a song when everything else worked in her favor!

Imagine Dragons "On Top Of The World"

    http://www.radioglobo.it/img/copertina/image_dragons_ontopoftheworld.jpg

This is firmly associated with 2014 for me, as Imagine Dragons' 4th US single after "Demons" and one that didn't click with me beforehand. But it was not their 4th hit for some reason, and was their lowest-peaking single in the UK too. Shame as "On Top Of The World" is such a bright contrast to "Radioactive" and "Demons", a perfect song for when the sun is out, the weather's nice and life is good. But most radio stations thought it'd be a better idea to keep playing their old hits over and over. As a rule, the follow-up to a #6 hit really shouldn't stall at #79, but I'm not bitter (read: I'm still bitter). Still sold a million downloads though!

Since then Imagine Dragons have released the first single of their sophomore album, and it was nice not having to wait too long for it. Personally "I Bet My Life" has underwhelmed me so far, though it's not bad by any means, so hopefully it will grow. Another big album of theirs is absolutely necessary, but I could do without any more of their songs having a year-long top 40 chart run, please and thank you.

  13. such a beautiful song, i can't work how much of a talent she is (and based on her follow-up not much of one) bur honestly this is such an effort
Yup! Maybe it's just the magic of Dr. Luke on this but I'd like to think otherwise.

Me neither I think it's Sydney the lead singer she's 17. It's a great little indie pop track and Marcin needs to jog on

Calling CK utterly vile is definitely not what I'd describe it as! :P

I didn't see his comment, and I hope I never do :o :nono:

I really enjoyed foster the people new album but pumped up kicks is still their best song
    Yes. Yes it is.

FGL are pretty great actually, really enjoying Dirt at the moment but I didn't really see that taking off much. TIHWR is definitely their best though and incredibly catchy, wish that managed to reach T10 in the US.

Luke Bryan is pretty decent too, Drink A Beer *-*

Yeah FGL are mostly really good! Surprised you like Drink A Beer :o I really liked Luke's older songs but haven't heard anything I like from him in a while (other than this).

    Hozier "Take Me To Church"

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e5/Hozier_Take_Me_to_Church.jpg

A surprise appearance here from Hozier. I've known "Take Me To Church" for several months now but spent most of the year wondering why it was so successful and what people thought was so great about it. Only in the past couple of months did I pay close attention to the lyrics and finally understand and appreciate the talent behind this song. Whereas "From Eden" clicked with me the first time I heard it, not long ago! It also helped to watch some of Hozier's live performances; it's always refreshing to hear someone's voice sound just the way it does on the record. It's too bad "Take Me To Church" peaked so low in the UK but seeing as it's still hanging onto the top 40, there's no reason to write it off just yet!

    Hunter Hayes "Tattoo"

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/bc/HunterHayesTattoo.jpg

Last year I was the only one with Hunter in an EOY thread, and this year he's been in three or four already :D Despite that it was mixed success for Hunter this year, and nothing could exemplify that more than "Tattoo". With this song Hunter achieved his first ever semi-hit in the UK, reaching the top 100 on iTunes and top 200 officially, but also his worst-performing single in the USA, being the first of his to miss the Hot 100. It's a great song (his best single since "I Want Crazy") that shamefully suffered from two of his previous singles' shortcomings. It's rather unfair but country radio can be just as fickle to some artists as they are feverishly loyal to others. Hopefully I am overreacting and Mr. Hayes can get back on track in the near future!

  17. Florida Georgia Line featuring Luke Bryan "This Is How We Roll"

    http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/tasteofcountry.com/files/2014/01/This-Is-How-We-Roll.jpg

The bro-country theme songs just keep coming from these guys...if you don't know what bro-country is, be thankful. It's slowly ruining the genre, basically, but I still judge each song individually, and "This Is How We Roll" passes the test for me. It helps that Luke Bryan barely even features :heehee:. Florida Georgia Line attempted another "Cruise"-like smash with a second version that featured Jason Derulo. Worth a listen but thankfully it didn't have the same success as the superior "Cruise" (feat. Nelly).

FGL and Luke have both become too big for their own good, where they can release anything regardless of quality and have a guaranteed hit. I have a feeling these songs aren't going to age well and that public perception will eventually turn against them, making Florida Georgia Line into the Nickelback of country music. But this might just be me not liking their second era as much as their first one. Either way, enjoy it while it lasts, guys!

    Foster The People "Best Friend"

Foster The People "Coming Of Age"

    http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l219/Yoshi538/aba006be-8874-4c51-8760-8fcd20141e51.jpghttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/ec/Coming_of_Age.png

It was a long wait of nearly three years for the follow-up to debut album Torches, but finally Foster The People delivered. Their new material seemed to be met with disappointment but everything I've heard sounds just fine! Lead single "Coming Of Age" was especially brilliant, an adventurous throwback to eighties alt-rock addressing the internal struggles of youth. It translates VERY well in the video, which also pays tribute to the 80s.

Of all the songs Radio 1 snubbed this year, this was their worst offense that I can think of. They did redeem themselves somewhat by playlisting second single "Best Friend", but even then it just begs the question of why they ignored the first one. "Best Friend" was good too, more upbeat and the horns were a nice touch. Perhaps hoping for a second "Pumped Up Kicks" was too much to ask, but Foster The People deserved more support than what they got.
