East "Old Age"
Buzzjackfestivalen III
Harmonica did not intend to take part until this under-3:00 gem presented itself at just the right time. So close, but East was just once place shy of advancing out of Deltavling 3. Harmonica voted in full force for country favorite Hunter Hayes, representing Bellamia, and shot their own entry in the foot as Hunter took the fourth and final qualifying spot in the heat while 'Old Age' settled for fifth. To be fair, East seems like quite the Lorde wannabe: age 16, from neighboring Australia, and with evident vocal similarities. Buzzjack was sharp enough to see right through her, but the song itself is still great. -
100. Eminem “The Real Slim Shady”
UK #1 (USA #4)
99. Mariah Carey “We Belong Together”
USA #1 (UK #2)
98. Kylie Minogue “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head”
UK #1 (USA #7)
97. Shaggy featuring Rayvon “Angel”
#1 in USA and UK
96. Destiny’s Child “Say My Name”
USA #1 (UK #3)
95. Rihanna featuring Jay-Z “Umbrella”
#1 in USA and UK
94. Usher “Burn”
#1 in USA and UK
93. Blu Cantrell featuring Sean Paul “Breathe”
UK #1 (USA #41)
92. Mika “Grace Kelly”
UK #1 (USA #57)
91. My Chemical Romance “Welcome To The Black Parade”
UK #1 (USA #9)
Finally into the top 100, where all of the songs are at least a 9/10 and will quickly approach 10/10 territory. It all starts with my earliest memory of Eminem, watching ‘The Real Slim Shady’ video on TV which probably wasn’t appropriate for an 8-year-old. Next is ‘We Belong Together’, a 14-week #1 in America and actually Billboard’s number-one song of the decade. I can’t disagree as it was absolutely everywhere, but I love it and can’t think of a song more deserving. The longest-running UK #1 of the decade is also here, ‘Umbrella’ by Rihanna with 10 weeks. That one was impossible to escape too. I have no clue how ‘Breathe’ managed a four-week run at the top but that more than makes up for rudely missing the top 40 in the States. The same goes for five-week #1 ‘Grace Kelly’, a song that really stands out for its originality and deserves to be a classic. But what makes me happiest is seeing that My Chemical Romance made it to #1 with a brilliant rock anthem, which used to be fairly common but only a couple of bands have done so since.

101. Nelly Furtado “Maneater”
UK #1 (USA #16)
I thought Kanye West wouldn’t show up again but forgot about his verse on ‘Run This Town’, lead single from The Blueprint III which was probably my favorite Jay-Z era. If anything, this song is still so underrated. Also from 2009 are Britney Spears with ‘3’, the shortest title of any #1 song, and JLS with ‘Everybody In Love’. Out of their 5 number-ones I like this and ‘Love You More’ the best. Another highlight from this section is ‘The Promise’, the song that got me into Girls Aloud albeit five or six years late. I must draw attention to ‘All This Time’ as I love it so much! I’ve never heard Michelle sing anything else but this music video is so cliché with the most flawless hand movements ever *.* Once you see them, you can't un-see them..not that you'd want to! ‘London Bridge’ is Fergie’s last solo entry, one of my faves from The Duchess but ‘Fergalicious’, ‘Clumsy’, and ‘Finally’ would place so much higher had they been #1s. And just missing out on the top 100 is Nelly Furtado with ‘Maneater’ which at the time was my fave from Loose, but not anymore. Two other tracks from Loose did make the top 100 and have a chance of doing very well!

VERY strong start to this (considering the poor quality of the songs lol)! That said, I'm disappointed to see some at the bottom like Limp Bizkit and Lou Bega. I really like Steve Brookstein's 'Against All Odds' but of course it's unanimously hated  'All Summer Long', another one I think is great but can't imagine how it was liked/bought by enough people to reach #1! So baffling! And Michelle :( Her video is so bad it's good, her hand motions are everything *.* and I personally love the song.
Anyway, not complaining at all just giving some opposite opinions! Some excellent commentary and it's certainly more interesting than shoving all the Westlife/Pop Idol songs at the bottom. A nice variety so far ^_^

120. Lonestar “Amazed”

119. Christina Aguilera “What A Girl Wants”

118. Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell “Drop It Like It's Hot”

USA #1 (UK #13)
115. Usher featuring Alicia Keys “My Boo”
USA #1 (UK #5)
114. Daniel Powter “Bad Day”
USA #1 (UK #2)
113. Mario Winans featuring P. Diddy & Enya “I Don't Wanna Know”
UK #1 (USA #2)
112. Cascada “Evacuate The Dancefloor”
UK #1 (USA #25)
111. U2 “Beautiful Day”
UK #1 (USA #21)
‘Amazed’ Not a huge fan of Lonestar but I heard this a lot back in 2000 and loved it. But its beauty has diminished over the years, it’s really just a standard late-90s ballad. Also representing 2000 are Christina Aguilera, U2, and…Creed. Creed is every bit as unpopular as Nickelback nowadays but I have two of their CDs and can’t deny ‘With Arms Wide Open’ or any of their other songs. ‘Bad Day’ is another one that I really connected to at the time. Daniel Powter is perhaps the ultimate one-hit wonder of the noughties. Also here, ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ and ‘Ridin’ are undeniable jams. ‘My Boo’ seems very forgotten now…a great collab and a reminder of when every Usher single not only was a hit, but deserved to be a hit.
