I also noticed that not a lot of websites were able to get their hands on it ready for preorder. I had issues with Rarewaves (I use as an alternative to Amazon or HMV) so had to preorder via Amazon on this occasion. But yeah, I agree that people weren't able to download it either, which have had an impact on sales. I think digital is a good alternative for those who haven't got the physical space.

They may do something like "NOW Yearbook Presents... Legends & Oddities: The 80's". Have things like Bowie, Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson (if licensed) and Kraftwerk, The Firm, Spitting Image etc. I'd buy that!

Highlights for me are: Double Pet Shop Boys massive No.1s - It's A Sin and West End Girls De La Soul - Me Myself and I Heart - Alone Bruce Springsteen - Dancing In The Dark Cliff Richard, Hank Marvin & The Young Ones - Living Doll Personal favourites: Gloria Estefan - Rhythm Is Gonna Get You Fuzzbox - International Rescue Trans-X - Living On Video The majority of these are going to be new discoveries for me, so I'm looking forward to it!

That's the thing. I mean, technically there's nothing stopping them doing a definitive decade closure with an Extra on top, but at that point, they would have exhausted most chart smashes. Just like they redeemed Pet Shop Boys, Bruce Springsteen and Heart here, they may be able to redeem other acts that have had licensing nightmares previously, but then NOW have acquired the rights to since.

It was probably a licensing issue at the time. It may have been rectified or salvaged very recently. It's still good that they've made the collection in the end.

I genuinely thought this was going to be Top 5, if not a new No.1 for Ari. Very surprised it only went Top 20. She was really blowing up around this time and it's crazy it didn't get any higher than No.14. Though granted, the chart was incredibly stagnant around that time.

It's got the 80's colour theming at the bottom. Realistically it could be the '85-'89: The Final Chapter, but a part of me wishes it's more of backfill of tracks that at the time couldn't be licensed, but now can be. Like some kind of Extra Plus! 😆

I'm really hoping this to be true. So many big songs that didn't make the original Yearbooks, let's hope we get the "oddballs" and such on these final chapters. Also, hard agree on Roxette - Fading Like A Flower. Both it and the Dancing DJs remix are absolutely stellar.

I agree with all of this. I don't know if Samantha Janus is trying to repress her early years (now Samantha Womack) but I'm aware the song isn't on streaming either. It saddens me that the Extra has been cheapened like this. I stand by what I say, when I say that the 90's Yearbooks are sadly weaker than the other decades. NTWICM, we get it, yes you can now put these big names on your albums, but their songs were so minor at the time that they come across as unrecognisable today. Another thing for me, is how underrepresented the dance anthems of this year have been. Yes, Disc 2 on the main was quite decent, but for two tracks (The Prodigy and Moby) they couldn't even get the versions that were played on the radio at the time. Instead we get the original 3 minute version of Charly, and some 2006 remix of Go. But on the Extra (and I note how they keep highlighting this in their emails promoting the Extra like it's a good thing) it has like, 3 proper dance tracks and that's it. It's not reflective of the UK at the time at all. EDIT: Just checked Spotify, turns out 'A Message To Your Heart' is now on there! That's good to know!

I've just logged in for the first time in awhile, and I must say... these are cracking mate! The sequencing, the parallel universe if NOW didn't have licensing issues... it's brilliant! I really want to listen to each one of these and rediscover any secret gems that I would have otherwise forgotten about! Thank you!

2007 on the whole was very strong for the numbered Nows. Any rehashes will be relatively minor. The Millennium '06-'07 was the same; they had to dig a bit deeper for more obscure tracks.

They're probably on their Christmas holidays now. Probably won't see anything until the second Thursday in January (8th). Have a good Christmas!

It would feel more complete if they did 1985-1989 The Final Chapter. Yearbook 1975 is a possibilty, but then so is Yearbook 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1999.

That was the '87 remix which fared better than the original in 1982. I imagine this is the original from 1982 here. On the whole, I really like this Vaults tracklist. A lot here I don't even know about so can't wait to discover. The two highlights (and the only really recognisable ones to me, sans 'Valerie') are The Go-Go's - Vacation and The Waitresses - I Know What Boys Like. Underrated bangers. On the topic of Now Yearbook 1991 Extra, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels that The Simpsons being missed is a huge missed opportunity. Granted, they were produced by Michael Jackson and his team, I feel it wouldn't have costed NOW as much to licence due to them these days being considered a novelty of its time, rather than the MJ-produced side of it. You never see them in MJ's best songs collections anywhere at all! Still hurting about the lack of them, Iron Maiden and Enigma being missed. The Stonk being missed kind of makes sense since it's a charity song, but then again the Yearbooks have represented charity songs in the past so I can't really justify them missing that track. Same applies to Mr Blobby on NOW Yearbook 1993 or its Extra. To a lesser extent, the Teletubbies on Yearbook 1997 and its Extra too. (Though I did hear Scott Mills play them on Radio 2 the other day as 'On this day in history', but they struggled to play the full thing because people in the studio including Scott himself couldn't stand playing the thing in the first place, claiming its very much a song of its time lmao)

No Enigma either, or even maybe just a sniff of Iron Maiden's 'Bring Your Daughter...'. Also yes, the inclusion of anything David Sylvian is absolutely baffling. The 90's Yearbooks so far to me, feel weak comparatively to the 70's and 80's Yearbooks. It saddens me because the 90's is my favourite decade and NOW just struggles with licensing issues for this decade. Heck, Moby's 'Go' on Yearbook 1991 was some kind of 2006 remix which sounded nothing like the original. That threw me off an otherwise amazing disc.

The 60’s one looks really good! Proper classic Rock & Roll on Disc 3 which I’m in love with. sigh Guess I’ll have to add this one to the collection - I’m running out of space!

It was a big hit in January/February 2022, and shown up on Now 111, but Disney songs are often hit or miss in being represented on numbered Nows. Golden is one of those, still too big, but could also be akin to Kate Bush and Running Up That Hill in 2022. Made big by Netflix but won’t make it on a compilation due to being too big. Could have made Now 112 or Now 113 otherwise. I am gutted it didn’t make it, as it was the biggest smash over the last 3 months. But hey ho, this is what Now is all about!

Disco Eras one is a wasted one. No big names as mentioned and a lot of these are already on the Yearbooks. If anyone wanted this they could have just recreated the track list themselves with tracks from the Yearbook on a computer.

I’m majorly upset that The Simpsons didn’t make it. Whilst they were produced by Michael Jackson in an era that makes his music non-licensable, I thought they had a sliver of a chance due to the label they’re currently on. Gutted that they and the following didn’t make it: Queen - BoRhap/These Are The Days/Innuendo Enigma - Sadness Part I Bryan Adams - Everything I Do Right Said Fred - I’m Too Sexy 2 Unlimited - Get Ready For This Also, the inconsistency. The Prodigy are here (gladly) with Charly but not on ‘92 with Everybody In The Place. Also ‘93 with One Love. Though, this gives me hope for Firestarter, Breathe and No Good.

I know it’s a bit off-topic but have you heard of iBroadcast? You use their app to upload your MP3s and then you can stream them on the go on your phone. Back on topic: I feel like they’re going to struggle with Yearbook 1991, due to an array of licensing issues stemming from big hits from Bryan Adams and The Simpsons all the way down to rave songs and their sampling issues. It might be a Yearbook 1993 all over again. I have felt that the 90’s Yearbooks have been weaker than the 80’s ones, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

This feels like another filler compilation. I’ll give this one a miss, and await the next one.

I would love to see KC & The Sunshine Band on there with ‘Shake Shake Shake (Shake Your Booty)’. A Top 40 hit sure but would be perfect for the Extra as it’s a very memorable song.

Seems they’re covering dance classics from that era. Seems okay, but I think all those artists mentioned have appeared on other NOW albums.
