I really despise 'fake' covers. Especially when they make it on to a NOW! I'm sure the HITS series or something got a hold of the original at the time. Plus back then EMI didn't have much support from other labels. Was so disappointed when I saw some unknown group called 'B Boyz' singing this brilliant novelty. Just so lame.

  2. Amazing turn out! Seeing Sash! chart so high was amazing. Then back to back Lutricia McNeal and Lighthouse Family in the top 10! Great taste, people!

Also, that Janet Jackson song (which I'm shocked at it's No.2 position, in a positive way) reminds me of the second stage from Sonic The Hedgehog for the Game Gear and Master System - Bridge Zone. Take a listen:

Apologies for the lack of posting in the past week, things have been a little hectic in the real world! Anyways, popularity of these songs are beginning to wane, seeing minor shuffle abouts within the top 20.

  4. #326. Doop - Doop

    3 weeks at #1 in 1994 (#8 of 15 for '94)

Lol I have a soft spot for this. I kind of like this instrumental for some reason. Though, it's get a bit tiring by the end of the song. When the "doop doop doop doop doop" part starts, I just lose it. It's so stupid, that it makes me laugh every time.

Yes! This! I was obsessed with this track when I was in high school! It's such a random No.1! Also went to No.1 right through my 2nd birthday! Finally found the CD single in a charity shop and bought it! All things considered, this is placed quite high in this chart!

So it seems there's a lot of love in this week's chart for videogames such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Pokémon! Interesting!

  7. Expected Gwen to be No.1, but admittedly, it is a pop gem. Great to see The Killers at No.2 though! Some appreciation for a bit of rock on these forums!

Looking forward to the next one!

  8. Yep. You know what? Nothing will surprise me now, I'm all surprised out.

Galvanize, tune! Love Q-Tip's contribution to this track. Actually the very first time I heard of Q-Tip.

Dakota - MAKE ME FEEL LIKE THE OOOONE, MAKE ME FEEEEEEL LIKE THE ONE.... .... The One! One of my favourite Stereophonics tunes ever.

  9. Two decent songs. Kylie's 'I Believe In You' has a very retro vibe to it. Like something out of the 80's...

Scissor Sisters though. Man, this song was just downright dirty, but a corker nonetheless!

  10. So happy to see two big dance tracks within the top 10! I loved this time of music, when they sampled older songs and made them fresher and more energetic and positive! Such great tunes!

Also, Lucie Silvas at No.10? Great song, but again, I'm astonished!

  11. #340. Wretch 32 feat. Josh Kumra - Don't Go

    1 week at #1 in 2011 (#19 of 30 for '11)

The most unlikely #1 of the year. And it wasn't even a dead week - it beat "Heaven" and "Moves Like Jagger" to the top spot. The production is very minimalistic; and it stands out a lot from other 2011 hits. This song is about him putting into words just how much this girl means to him and how he doesn't want her to.. well.. go. The backing "ooh-yeah-yay"'s work well. Josh's parts sound like they're a sample from another song; but they're not.

I agree with you on this one. It's very downtempo and minimal. But I guess that's what gives it its charm. Wretch 32's single chart run was very bizarre.

Traktor, his 1st single, peaked at No.5.

Unorthodox, single No.2, peaked at 2.

Then Don't Go, his 3rd single, peaked at No.1. It usually goes the other way round, right? Haha!

  12. 149. Britney Spears - Gimme More (2007) - Now 68!

    148. Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around (1994) - Now 28! - But this song, always heard it playing on the radio when I was a mere baby. Kept making me cry! Haha!

    147. P!nk - Just Like a Pill (2002) - Man, I remember this. It was out around a time I felt very ill. The lyrics 'Instead of making me better, you keep making me ill!' were just ringing in my ears! Very memorable song!

    146. Evanescence - Bring Me to Life (2003) - Completely agree on this one. It's gothic theme is what attracted me to it. Great band and man, Amy Lee tho!

    145. Chase & Status ft. Louis M^ttrs - Lost & Not Found (2013) - Now 85! - Also, I am loving Chase & Status' homage to the early 90's dance scene. They bring out corker after corker!

    144. Melanie C ft. Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopes - Never Be The Same Again (2000) - Now 45!

    143. Disclosure ft. Eliza Doolittle - You & Me (2013) - Now 85! - Also, another great dance track. Works so well with the aforementioned Chase & Status track, back-to-back!

    142. Shanks & Bigfoot - Sweet Like Chocolate (1999) - Now 43! - Also, a great summer tune from the summer of '99! We always thought they were referring to 'Chocolate Balls', due to Chef's song, haha!

    141. Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know? (2013) - Now 86! - Also, a great tune from the Monkeys. Just wished their previous hits were on NOWs. :\

  13. Very bizarre seeing Bloc Party and Doves within the top 20! Also, that Shapeshifters track - IMO it seemed very generic house for its time. Surprised it charted so high.
  14. I'm a bit indifferent about these songs. All kind of middle of the road for me. 'Candy' is fun, I guess.

You're right about the reason for Daft Punk as well. But the song is very tame and average sounding, just doesn't go anywhere for me.

I appreciate George Michael's tribute to Freddie Mercury and it works well. I guess you would have had to have 'been there' to truly appreciate why this was a thing.

  15. 160. Disclosure ft. Sam Smith - Latch (2012) - Now 84! - Also, pretty neat house track.

    159. Eve ft. Gwen Stefani - Let Me Blow Ya Mind (2001) - Now 50! - Man, this song sounds retro compared to today's standards! Good tune nonetheless!

    158. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor (2001) - Now 51! - Love Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Very classy pop music! Also, this is a choon!

    157. The Beatles - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (1967) - Classic song, my mum had the Sgt Peppers album re-release on CD and I discovered this song on that album. It's so trippy, man.

    156. Kylie Minogue - Love At First Sight (2002) - Now 52! - Man, is it me, or did they really overplay this song on the radio back in the day? Another good pop song though!

    155. Marina and the Diamonds - Primadonna (2012) - Now 82! - Also, her voice is just awesome!

    154. Jamelia - See It In A Boy's Eyes (2004) - Now 58! - Fair play, Jamelia has a lot of memorable tunes. Nowadays, the average music consumer may not know who she is, but if you pop a song on like this, they'll be like "Oh yeah! I remember now! Classic!"

    153. Gossip - Standing In the Way of Control (2007) - Now 66! - Man, that video. Makes me laugh all the time, for reasons unknown. Haha!

    152. David Guetta Vs The Egg - Love Don't Let Me Go (Walking Away) (2006) - Now 65! - Also, this was before David Guetta was "cool".

    151. Amy MacDonald - This Is The Life (2007) - Now 69! - Her music is so traditional, that's why it didn't chart as high as it should have. Such a good tune though.

  16. Haha Crazy Frog really shouldn't be THAT high. It is a cover yes, but the more famous version is by Clock.

Not really. No one ever really mentions the Clock version. The Crazy Frog version was huge back in 2005. Also, check out these chart runs:

    Clock - Axel F/Keep Pushin': 14-10-{7}-10-15-24-40-52-56->9

    Crazy Frog - Axel F: {1}-1-1-1-2-4-6-8-10-10-13-20-31-48-67-72->16

Also, for reference, here's the original by Harold Faltermeyer: 73-62-62-72-63R(7)-42-30-10-4-{2}-2-2-3-5-12-16-23-25-36-52-60-73->22

  17. 170. The Kinks - All Day and All of the Night (1964) - Another quality tune by The Kinks. I really appreciate Kate Nash's cover of this from her Death Proof EP.

    168. Armand Van Helden ft. Duane Harden - You Don't Know Me (1999) - Now 42! - Also, what a club banger!

    167. Kaiser Chiefs - Everyday I Love You Less and Less (2005) - Now 61! - Also, one of my all time favourites by the Kaiser Chiefs!

    165. Scissor Sisters - Filthy/Gorgeous (2005) - Now 60! - Also, one of my main favourites by the Scissor Sisters, such a fun track!

    164. Lana Del Rey - Born to Die (2012) - Now 81! - Also, this is another great song. I appreciate the dark theme and moody lyrics.

    163. The Beach Boys - I Get Around (1964) - What a band! I love this sound of the 50's and 60's! Such great surf music!

    162. Snow - Informer (1993) - Now 24! - Scribbybopdoobelamonaleo! I licky boom boom down! Such a bad interpretation of the chorus! - Great song though, nonetheless!

    161. Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My LA Ex (2003) - Now 56! - Also, this came out of nowhere after S Club had split, haha!

  18. #359. Black Legend - You See The Trouble With Me

    1 week at #1 in 2000 (#29 of 42 for '00)

This, of course, samples a Barry White song. At first, I found this to be a pretty pointless dance song that went nowhere. The wobble sounds are cool, though, and I like the audience cheering. It just works for some reason. Listening now, it still doesn't go anywhere. But I like the production.

I agree with you on the audience cheering. It's like they're celebrating the song with the singer! Not a big selling No.1 for 2000 but a great House tune nonetheless!

    180. Natalia Kills - Mirrors (2011) - Did you know that she was previously Verbalicious in 2005? Known for the hit 'Don't Play Nice'! See: Now 60. ;)

    179. Basshunter - Now You're Gone (2008) - Now 69! - Also, early-mid 2008 was special for me as it was my last year of High School! This choon brings back memories!

    178. The Kinks - You Really Got Me (1964) - I agree with you on this one! What a band!

    174. The Ting Tings - That's Not My Name (2008) - Now 70! - Also, another corker. Shame they didn't get any bigger after 'Shut Up and Let Me Go', great band!

    172. Gramophonedzie - Why Don't You (2010) - Now 75! - Also, this. Never knew this song had so many fans despite its peak and chart run. Bought it on iTunes when it was released. I love this kind of stuff. Works really well back-to-back with 'We No Speak Americano'!

    171. Sam Sparro - Black and Gold (2008) - Now 70!
