ooh .. intrigue

feels kind of on the nose to put a bunch of punk songs here bc they’re meant to be short and sweet, but i just wanted to highlight the second half of Jeff rosenstock’s album WORRY. bc it blows me away every time i listen. 9 songs, almost all under 2 minutes, all bleeding into each other into a kind of medley of different types of punk and alt: hardcore punk, ska, etc. and they all dovetail into the emotional core of the album, which is…just giving a f*** and letting yourself love in the face of unimaginable horror. the album was released 10 years ago so it’s very of its time in that regard, very Trump 1.0, mid-10s #posi, and it’s really easy to feel jaded about it now, but the sentiments at the heart of the album still hold true even now, despite everything. and it includes the most affecting song Jeff’s ever written probably, “while you’re alive”. Jeff was the first show i went to after the pandemic and i shed tears when he played it. but anyway, i made a playlist of just the medley but the whole album is highly recommended: “love is worry”

Yeah I do not trust her at all, it reads as an opportunist trying to get ahead of a shifting tide, and her whole thing is still like nativist economic populism. to trust her would be like allying with the people on the right who jumped on pro-Palestine not necessarily bc they care about the plight of palestinians but bc they believe in the Jewish world order or whatever tf At this point I would welcome the rest of nato to bomb us

@mods can I have an anniversary entry in february for debuting 10 years ago even though it’s probably like my 35th entry total

The big Timbaland comeback started this year w the Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake albums, both of which lead to the electro-R&B/electropop boom of the following years and then big-name EDM in 4-5 years. So I’d probably pin 06 as the start of the transition period to 2010s pop! And on a personal note it’s also been 20 years since I first immersed myself in “online culture”, starting with my runescape account (which I made around Christmas 05 so a little over 20 years I guess) and really kickstarting with my Newgrounds account in December of 06. Even a year ago I would’ve called myself “extremely online” but I have been actively nauseated by and just straight up disinterested in what you could call “online culture” in the past year so I guess 20 years is the perfect time to “disconnect” lol

what gets me is the gall. you know even they don’t care about maintaining their narco-terrorism pretext when trump explicitly talks about “rebuilding” venezuelan oil infrastructure so that US oil companies may be “reimbursed” for being “cheated out” when venezuela nationalized their oil industry

literally feels like we’re speedrunning the bush years. death to 00s revivalism

december

I’ll be maybe an hour late but votes will be sent

do we have the date/time for a listenthrough?

Oops sorry guys I had a busy week (family stuff), wanted to make the listenthrough last week as that felt like the only way I’d be able to draft a top 10 but missed it. Felt unable to set aside time for a solo listenthru with everything going on

November

gonna try something difference.

Tbh I was under the impression NMF was algorithmically curated? Or is that release radar Can’t join this contest obv but enjoyed seeing the cheapness here, and I already have a song for the next one x

in a similar vein I've had the insane idea of like "best multi-song run from an album" or even a "buzzjack album contest" which is exactly what it sounds like, I would NOT have the fortitude to host such a contest but it would obviously have to be a months-long affair to make sure everyone has the time to listen. the only problem would be finding people with the attention spans to participate lmao

Tbh did myself dirty by not voting in a timely manner knowing I had a wedding to prepare for/go to today (and I can’t even use THAT as an excuse seeing as herbs literally was also at a wedding today)

oh wow did not expect to q at all lmao, ty to the as yet unnamed voters! i feel a little more comfortable now in the final with the full slate of alt nations voting only lost my 7-pointer (why so sirius) and my 2-pointer (thelonia) so apart from those happy with these results!

PLEASEEEE (voted)

pop girlies stan karly hartzman NOW

ouch that is a rough draw lmao

1000% would send bull believer in nuggets or UP but I'll let you have first dibs also a 25 minute rip from what I'm assuming is a livestream of a primavera dj set is stretching the definition of "song" I fear, but hypothetically I wouldn't have had a problem with the hour-long arca track (I didn't take part in that contest) so I won't quibble
