She could very well be. I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure this accounts for a lot of firsts because this chart week is pretty mind-boggling. The main one I think is that Prince and Beyoncé have both broken the record for the most songs in the top 40 (8 each), in the same week. "Boyfriend" video: HJOHoiPGpac The video's ok but I've been obsessed with this song for weeks now. It's got nothing on "Closer" obv but I'm so here for the lyrical perspective of the song. I want to say it's like a queer "Call Your Girlfriend" but that's not exactly right because "Boyfriend" isn't coming from a place of manipulation. I saw it described on another site as basically "I Kissed a Girl" from the perspective of the woman being experimented with and that sounds more accurate. It has all the attendant confusion and frustration and vague hurt of a one-sided relationship.

Hey guys, the extension has passed now I guess, and I'm really sorry I didn't get my votes in, didn't anticipate how busy I'd be this week. I had them about half done as of last night but I needed my sleep and there was no way I could've done the rest in time for lunchtime over there (early morning for me). I'd actually say that the reason Prince is dominating iTunes this much is because the sales climate has become so dire, which means huge responses like this will be reflected with higher iTunes positions because of the lower thresholds. That's not to diminish his impact though, surely he'd be dominating iTunes as well if sales were still at their peak.

I'm totally Team "Here". Like, I've had my fill of underdog anthems as well, but I feel "Here" rises above that in so many ways. I love the deftness of the imagery and the specificity of its lyrics; it comes off like the internal monologue of an actual human being, and not like, Levi's jeans ad copy. And that sample and that production are a perfect match for the lyrics and they give the song that essential air of creeping anxiety. I dunno, I just love that it's a specific moment in time contained in a song, and every part of the song just works to evoke it as much as possible. "Wild Things" on the other hand is just broad stroke after broad stroke, and the production is just..."nothing-y".

I can still remember when "HOWGH" came out and my instant reaction to it and how it took over me completely for months. Sooo many great memories of listening to this song in the latter half of 2013; listening to it late at night on the bus or in the car gave me such an indelible feeling. 2010s classic tbh.

Some of the vines are hilarious but...I hope it doesn't catch on and become like, a "Call Me Maybe" thing. Like, it probably won't, but I'm just wary because Carly's already experienced having a song be turned into a meme then tossed aside by the public, and she doesn't need it to happen to a song as glorious as this. I mean so far the vines are being made and shared by internet pop stans so I can laugh now because it's pretty much just a fun inside joke for everyone who loved the album (and for those who didn't I guess) but God imagine if it caught on with the larger public and all the people buying the song as a joke*. *Scenario unlikely to happen so I'm needlessly fretting here but the fact that Buzzfeed has declared it a Thing makes me fret 'cause I'm a nervous wreck
