BJSC 188 - Cibo Matto In BJSC 187 we finally achieved our 3rd consecutive qualification - although it was a bit anti-climactic coming 20th in the semi final and almost last in the final..... For 188 we put some genre descriptions out there to see what people would want - and from that they chose Cibo Matto, a Japanese/American trip-hop duo whose main musical output was from the 1990's and early 00's. After Keaton Henson, this is probably the least amount of lyrics you're going to get from a Herbilore song. Well, it worked for us before! The video is also a cracker - pay close attention! The song was also used to great effect in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, a show that was famous for featuring unknown artists in the fictional Bronze setting. We hope you enjoy :) Final Position: 16th in SF2, 11th in Grand Final Points scored: 61 in SF2, 201 in Grand Final Thanks for the following nations who gave us points: Semi Final: 12pts Trifoski 12pts Zanmatony 7pts Pagasa 6pts Bøtanikkä 6pts Deandria 5pts Aelandor 5pts N DNTN 3pts Aeroche 2pts Mothertopia 2pts Bronzil 1pt Eledan Final: 18pts Zanmatony 18pts Trifoski 15pts Nelionoir 15pts Pagasa 13pts Dalisska 13pts Deandria 11pts N DNTN 10pts Jadakissnia 9pts New Helvetica 9pts Pestolia 9pts Bøtanikkä 9pts Scotland 2 8pts FSR Rontvia 8pts FARC 7pts Aeroche 7pts Fljotavik 7pts Persephonia 6pts Terra Avium 4pts Bronzil 2pts Eledan 2pts Mothertopia 1pt Aelandor

Not sure I can disadvantage myself if I'm already expecting to finish near the bottom! But votes will be with you shortly - just doing my final listen :)

Certain sketches of Little Britain yes - it's mad how much the scope of humour has changed in 20-25 years. My other half has watched Ugly Betty recently and there's definitely some elements where the conversation has moved on since it was on. I know people will say Friends as well - again, I think this is similar to other programmes from the time. They still hold up but there are elements that are dated.

Sits in my corner singing Jessica Simpson to myself - actually a bit gutted that went straight out..... Elvis to go again

You may not be pleased by which song it is!

Thank you - I reheard it about a year ago and remembered why I was so obsessed with the song before!

They do but I’ll still moan!

These semi finals are going to be brutal! But glad I’ve gone with my song after seeing who is in my semi finals! And if anyone gives the Chappell/Olivia song points that gave me nothing in the last contest I’ll be moaning!!!!

Alpine: Gasly (Q,R) v Colapinto Aston Martin: Alonso (Q,R) v Stroll Audi: Bortoleto v Hulkenberg (Q, R) Cadillac: Perez (Q,R) v Bottas Ferrari: Leclerc (Q,R) v Hamilton Haas: Ocon (Q,R) v Bearman McLaren: Norris (Q,R) v Piastri Mercedes: Antonelli v Russell (Q,R) Racing Bulls: Tsunoda v Lindblad (Q,R) Red Bull: Verstappen (Q,R) v Lawson Williams: Albon v Sainz Jr (Q,R) Pole Position: Russell Winner: Russell Fastest Lap: Norris

Poor Pierre Any chance this decision will get reversed? Surely Alpine/Gasly will appeal?

Takes Haute & Freddy off my potentials list…

All my life I’ve avoided beaver. Now I may end up voting for it…..

64 entries!!! So 11 non qualifiers per semi final!

Wouldn’t it be nice if Herbilore extend their consecutive qualifying run to 4! Counting on you alt voters (and maybe some crossover pop ones too)

I would say 9 to 5 for me, but that may be because I have connections to the song (a friend loved it, we dressed up as characters from the movie etc). Jolene is a close second Obviously financially and as far as her song writing goes it is I Will Always Love You

At the moment I have one song at the top and then a batch of songs below (all quite pleasant) - which be default is making it hard to complete my rankings! Will be an interesting results thread

Wow surprised Christina didn’t make it Elbow FTW I guess

I was always gutted they took out S.P.E.W from the films but yeah not sure how I feel about this in general I think there’s a high risk this will bomb or the damage JK has done to her image will cause people not to watch - meaning you’ll get an incomplete story (I’m still not over that for The Carrie Diaries…..where half the SATC cast had yet to be introduced) I spoke to a trans friend about the book a couple of years ago and asked what their thoughts were on reading them/also watching this series. They did say they can disassociate the art from the artist and they’d be fine with people re-reading/watching this series, as long as it doesn’t directly promote JK in any way.

On the Meat Loaf song, do I remember rightly that he recorded it as he wanted the song before it was given to Celine. Think I remember hearing he was a bit bitter about it so eventually released his own version - it’s a shame it pales in comparison to the iconic Celine version

Poor Jessica. I bought that on single when it was first released and blasted it over and over again (don’t want to know what I sounded like singing along to it!). But not surprising to see it heading out early

Is the 10 points for me because I finished 5th (6 points) and 7th (4pts) in the last 2 contests?

Oh maybe my fave goes out round 1 lol!

Ooooh one of these songs is a personal fave of mine - watch it go out round 2 or something! Elvis to go first

What a flop start from me!
