  1. Apologies for the bump of this thread but we are now in the equivalent week of the lowest Album Sales from four years ago and there are no major releases scheduled for this week and streaming seems to have gone down in recent weeks as well. Blossoms may be able to muster 10k but who else can get there this week, I think surely a price reduction for one of Bieber, Drake, ELO or Christine & The Queens would be enough...
  2. "Rise" will surely get an Olympic boost (especially with the price reduction ). Not sure it can push it back in the Top 40 overall though although there is a rumoured appearance at the Opening Ceremony. Wonder whether Sia's "Unstoppable" will get a push over the next couple of weeks, it is being used in a Gillette Olympics advertising campaign with a new verse from Pusha T. Also would be great to see a reappearance of Underworld with "Caliban's Dream" as the BBC will use extensively.
  3. 71. Oasis - D'You Know What I Mean? (NG's 2016 Rethink) A new mix to promote the "Be Here Now" Reissue due in October. Once this Reissue is out of way hopefully they will get back together for some new material...
  4. I'm a bit late to this thread but I'm astounded that nobody has mentioned Queen. Firstly, their "Greatest Hits" Album is the biggest selling of All Time in the UK and it contains 5 songs that peaked at number 2 and most still get regular plays: "We Are The Champions" "We Will Rock You" (Biggest B-side of All-time) "Somebody To Love" "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" "Killer Queen"
  5. The Summer Holidays is a no-brainer, a lot of people are away from home and generally wouldn't buy as much music. Whilst I buy music /stream music on Holiday I tend not to buy CD's until I return home. The Olympics has a tendency to monopolise the TV Schedules (fewer Promotional opportunities etc) , I personally don't listen to as much music during the Olympics. I suspect the main reason for the Low Sales however is the lack of Releases by major Artists at this time, clearly they are going to wait until the periods when the Sales market is traditionally stronger. I can't remember many big Albums being launched in early August...
  6. I think it is the combination of Summer Holidays, Olympics and lull in Release Schedule that caused Sales to be low last time.
  7. Again, I think she will wait until Sep/Oct. Remember August is a month when traditionally the big stars avoid Releasing. It is month when the likes of The Maccabees and Richard & Adam have stolen weeks at number 1 in recent years! Jess Glynne Released last year at the end of August but usually the bigger releases are saved until later in the year.
  8. Agreed but there is no Release Date for Album yet, suspect they will wait until Sep/Oct time.
  9. It is nearly four years since Album Sales fell to a new low after Rihanna topped the UK chart with a weekly sale of less than 10,000 copies for the first time since modern statistical records began. Talk That Talk, the album released by the Barbadian singer in 2011, returned to the number one slot with sales of just 9,578 CDs and downloads combined on the Chart announced on the 12th August 2012 which happened to be the day of the Olympic Closing Ceremony. Looking at the Album Release schedule for the dates overlapping this years Olympics in Brazil: Friday 5th August Friday 12th August Friday 19th August There would appear to be next to nothing new to get to 10k Weekly Sales in any of these weeks unless someone like The Stone Roses drops their third Studio Album. Do we think the Album Sales will fall to a new all-time low during the Olympic period (if not before)? Album Sales will inevitably pick up in September with some big Releases scheduled (eg Bastille).
  10. According to the Wikipedia ELO Discography page there are 40 compilations available (not all are UK ones but still a substantial number). You can tell when a back catalogue has been plundered to the max when the number of Compilation Albums available is more than triple the number of Studio Albums :) For ELO studio Albums = 13 (Compilation Albums = 40) Compilation Quotient = 3.07 for every Studio Album. One of the highest Compilation Quotients I can think of is Frankie Goes To Hollywood (2 Studio Albums, 10 Compilation with a Quotient of 5 for every Studio Album). I'm sure there must be other Artists out there that have a higher Quotient than that.
  11. Especially impressive given the number of other compilations out there for ELO.
  12. 25. "Up & Up" - Coldplay Just looking for a Top 75 placing for this in the Overall Chart - streams have been negligible so far and also not sure it has been getting much Airplay. So far it has peaked at 76 Overall which is an awful position to peak. I was surprised they left it so late in the set last night, there were so many guests coming on towards the end I almost expected Noel Gallagher to come on for his guitar bit.

All 7 Coldplay's Studio Albums making significant progress today: 2. A Head Full Of Dreams 23. Mylo Xyloto 26. X&Y 27. Ghost Stories 50 (and 52). A Rush of Blood To the Head 58 (and 68). Parachutes 115. Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends Also 25. Live 2012 Surprised Viva La Vida is the lowest positioned Studio Album (by some way).

Yes, as "Delirium" is languishing down at 191 it needs a boost to stay in the Overall Top 100 by the end of the week.

Despite the obvious boost for Adele yesterday pleased about the other boosts so far this weekend in the Album Chart for 2. Christine And The Queens, 9. Muse, 16. Tame Impala, 22. The Last Shadow Puppets, 18 and 25. The 1975, 29 and 32. Chvrches and 42. Squeeze!
  16. 33. "Tilted" - Christine And The Queens As predicted they got a slot on the first Glastonbury Highlights programme on BBC2. Also Bastille featured 19. "Good Grief"
  17. Don't believe the "Hype" ? Dizzee Rascal and Calvin Harris have been talking up their Friday release. A near cert to race to the top of the iTunes chart.
  18. Another good thing about the Graham Norton Show appearance was the mention of appearing at Glastonbury on Friday on the "Other" Stage. With a line up of Acts including Bastille, Disclosure and James as well all performing on Friday it might prove a very popular Stage. Let's hope Christine and the Queens get to do a song or two for TV in the way that London Grammar did 3 years ago and enabled them to really showcase their talent.
  19. 20. Tilted - Christine and the Queens Definitely one of the best boosts of the Series! ...and over in the Album chart 2. Chaleur Humaine - Christine and the Queens
  20. Yes, The Graham Norton Show, it was an excellent Performance.
  21. 138. "I'm Amazing" - Peter Gabriel, a seven and a half minute song inspired by Muhammad Ali.
  22. Final comment on this thread from me, congrats to Rick Astley on pulling off the number 1 this week. Not many people saw it happening a few weeks ago and I think there will be several Artists from that era looking at the success he has achieved this week and planning their own comeback in a similar way. I'm thinking the likes of Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw, Holly Johnson, Midge Ure, Andy Bell and Heaven 17 (in fact most of the Artists on the recent Fly soundtrack compiled by Gary Barlow). All will not be able to get back to the dizzying heights of number 1 and will probably disappear as quickly as they resurfaced but there is no doubt the increased Publicity can only be good for the Artists. Ok some people may not like the Phenomenon term but there is no doubt there is a trend of improved chart positions. Btw on the subject of Gary Barlow he hinted very strongly earlier today that Rick was number 1 by tweeting "So pleased to see @rickastley back in the charts #topman", I guess he had insider knowledge.
  23. Yes would agree, the thread should really be for Artists past their creative peak rather than 'washed up' which was a definitely little unfair to some of the examples given. I also find the Album chart more interesting and it's good to see some of the old classics in the lower reaches even though it is a shame there are not many new Artists breaking through (as Album artists).
  24. I Predict A Slow Descent !
  25. 17. Adele - Send My Love (To Your New Lover) Seems to be continuing to rise quite steadily - I guess the Glastonbury advert on BBC is helping...
