Concerts
I’ve had such a good year for concerts so far! I’ve already matched my record for most in one year (2018) and will surpass that very shortly as I have a few more coming up (Diana Ross tomorrow!). I’ve always wanted to go to Vegas for concerts and I couldn’t believe Janet and Mariah were in town at the same time, I couldn’t resist. I will never financially recover but it was worth every penny. I saw Janet basically as soon as I got off the plane and I was very sleep deprived, it was my first time in America so that felt like a fever dream I’d already seen them both before but Vegas is a whole different experience. I’d never seen Mary J. Blige, Usher or Kesha before so that’s a few more I can tick off from my list! I’ll also be seeing Diana Ross and Natasha Bedingfield for the first time. February 5th - Janet Jackson - Resorts World, Las Vegas, United States 7th - Mariah Carey - Park MGM, Las Vegas, United States March 1st - Mary J. Blige (with Ne-Yo and Mario) - Intuit Dome, Los Angeles, United States 4th - JoJo - The Wiltern, Los Angeles, United States April 11th - Usher - The O2, London, England May 16th - Kylie Minogue - OVO Hydro, Glasgow, Scotland 28th - JoJo - Albert Hall, Manchester, England 30th - Kesha - Albert Hall, Manchester, England June 6th - Kylie Minogue - OVO Hydro, Glasgow, Scotland

I thought this was about Shakira at first 💔

Mariah Carey - Type Dangerous
The position is irrelevant, the fact that she’s still able to chart on the Hot 100 at all (with a non-Christmas song) in 2025 is incredible! Congrats Mimi

Veronica Electronica • Remix Album
Oh well I guess the digital release will be the same date as the physical

Mariah Carey - Type Dangerous
I know sales don’t mean anything anymore but it’s doing much better in pure sales than she usually does here. GTFO only peaked at #76 (granted it’s sales were split over 2 weeks), I Don’t at #60, Oh Santa made it to #8 but that had Ariana’s fanbase too and Big Energy #3 but that was a legit hit beyond the fanbase. So to go top 10 on sales from just the fanbase is pretty good!

Mariah Carey - Type Dangerous
This could be her first non-Christmas charting song on the Hot 100 since 2017! And first totally solo since 2015. Nothing from Caution managed even the Bubbling Under chart so I’d consider this a triumph.

Mariah Carey - Type Dangerous
Oh wow, I just remembered she’s doing the Summertime Ball so that’s why but it’s great and surprising she has some radio support here. Glad she’s taking full advantage of the slot to launch her new era!

iTunes Weekly Thread w/c 6th June 2025
No Mariah in the top 200? That can’t be right surely
-
Veronica Electronica • Remix Album
With how low sales are right now I think it has a good chance of getting top 10! The current bar for #1 seems to be ~10k barring any big new releases, probably a bit too much to ask for but you never know if it’s a quiet week

Veronica Electronica • Remix Album
I hope this can chart decently for her, although I know it is a very niche release.

Louise - Confessions
Don’t Kill My Vibe is such a bop

Britney Spears - Oops!... I Did It Again
I wasn’t going to order the limited edition due to the price but I changed my mind the other day when it was officially released, turned out it had sold out 😭 I assumed it was one of those “limited” ones that’d be in stock forever and reduced eventually. I won’t bother getting the standard edition tbh

Friend of Mine (Soundtrack Single) - Out Friday 16th May
It sounds like a demo. Like they were on a deadline and only had the chorus, looped it and went “yup, that’ll do”
-
Friend of Mine (Soundtrack Single) - Out Friday 16th May
This is so bizarre. I was expecting something cheesy and fun like Britney’s “Ooh La La”, not whatever this is

Total bangers not on streaming that DIDN'T get to #1
Mya and Blackstreet’s Take Me There. It wasn’t on Spotify, then it was for a while, now it’s gone again. Just a remix is still there but not the original.

2025 BPI Certifications
If you’d have told me a decade ago that Kylie, Britney and Madonna would have platinum certified top 10 hits in the 2020s I’d never have believed it!

This country (the legal system, the media and the people!) has a serious problem with admitting when they’re wrong

Buzzjack doesn’t work on my new phone?
Yes! I just found it odd that it wouldn’t let me accept the certificate (or whatever it is lol) and left me stuck on the 404 page. I’ve worked out I’ll just have to search Buzzjack.com/forums to let me onto here. Just glad it’s not just me!

Buzzjack doesn’t work on my new phone?
I’m not really sure where to post this  For some reason Buzzjack just does not load on my new phone, it gave the “This connection is not found” warning and when I tried to get it to trust the website it just wouldn’t work. Now it’s showing a 404 error. I’m posting from my old phone where it still works. Just an odd issue, I have no idea how to fix it :( Edit: nevermind! For some reason it only works if I type in the URL but without the www

Biggest flop single ever?
I remember this and not understanding why it didn’t do any better! Janet Jackson’s “Make Me” also only made something like #73 after she performed it there that year, although to be fair it was a mash-up with All For You. It was her first top 100 entry in 3 years and her last one to date so she did see some positive effect. The X Factor wasn’t always a miracle worker, but No Doubt were undoubtedly the biggest losers.
-
Biggest flop single ever?
Not necessarily, it performed decently around the world - #34 US, #23 Canada, usually with pre-orders something like that could’ve made top 10 here. There was just absolutely no promotion and radio’s ageism got even worse around that time. If the timing was different and Settle Down got an X Factor performance instead I’m sure it could’ve been a modest hit
-
Biggest flop single ever?
The handling of that era was very frustrating. IIRC they never even released Settle Down here, if they’d have performed that instead I imagine it’d have fared a lot better. Then Gwen made the same mistake a few years later by never releasing Baby Don’t Lie here, Fergie got a decent sized hit with L.A Love (thanks to pre-orders), Gwen could’ve at least got a top 20 hit if she bothered to release it here I bet
-
Biggest flop single ever?
I don’t know if it’s already been mentioned but No Doubt’s “Looking Hot” comes to mind. It only got to #397 in the charts after an X Factor performance in 2012 when that was basically a guaranteed top 10. Can’t think of a much bigger flop than that.

Agreed. I’ve been somewhat isolated the past 2 months so I’ve only really felt Christmassy this past week. I’m just getting into it and the rest of the country is already over it!

Streaming Services Chart Discussion
I know I’m just repeating what’s been said for years but Brenda Lee’s success here just feels so artificial. In 2007 and 2008 when Christmas classics first started appearing in the charts again, she was barely scraping the top 100 (#94 in 2007 while Mariah was #4!), it just exposes how… Americanised and standardised Spotify’s playlists are and I wish they didn’t have so much influence on the charts
