Not a huge Sophie fan but decided to give this album a chance, a lot of it wasn’t for me but “Time” is excellent

This deserved so much better. One of the best pop songs of the decade

No luck :( This has been the worst ever, I’ve never even managed to get one in my basket. Ticketmaster blocked me hours ago and AXS has a couple of tickets come up every so often (when they don’t think I’m a bot) but I always get “oh no!” when I try to add them

With streaming tightening its stranglehold on the industry this is becoming worryingly more common with artists that should have enough of a fanbase to at least chart. I think they need to do more to incentivise physical purchases, even I’ve only bought one vinyl in the past 12 months… just can’t justify it in this economy.

It’s ridiculous that they just “drop” artists! It shouldn’t be a case of “right, Christina’s too old now get her off to Radio 2”, then even if she gets a big hit they just won’t acknowledge it. This attitude is so antiquated, trying so hard to be “cool” is the least cool thing you can do.

I’m anxious to see where this will end up today. I’ll be optimistic and guess #15

Gone Gone Gone is definitely the highlight, otherwise this feels like a bit of a superfluous release. It’s more a compilation of random remixes (most/all? of which were already available) than feeling like a cohesive remix album. At 8 tracks it’s really more of an EP than an album, like the American Life one for RSD. I’m happy to get anything new M-related don’t get me wrong, and if it wasn’t named “Veronica Electronica” I’m sure expectations wouldn’t have been so high, but it feels like a bit of a wasted concept.

Not released until 10th October. So instead of going #7-OUT it’ll now go #57-OUT and may re-enter at #89 in October

I’m shocked it’s only #9 on iTunes on release day. When this was announced I thought it had a decent chance at top 10. I’d guess it will end up just outside the top 40, I don’t feel like the promotion has been done very well. This is the kind of release that would benefit from multiple variants and they just haven’t bothered

The OCC’s poor record keeping strikes again, somebody needs to update her individual artist page. It’s so inconsistent, it’s credited as “Dolly Parton and Michael Buble” but doesn’t show on her page but Tyrant is “Beyoncé & Dolly Parton” and that does

I think the charts are artificial enough as they are personally. Streaming is a totally different measurement of consumption from buying music. If they want to keep the idea of the charts alive what they ought to do is introduce a cap, so once an individual user has streamed a song/album enough to give it 1 “sale” then that’s it, nothing after that is counted. But they won’t do that because chart “sales” (whatever that even means nowadays) look bad enough as it is

I’ve had such a good year for concerts so far! I’ve already matched my record for most in one year (2018) and will surpass that very shortly as I have a few more coming up (Diana Ross tomorrow!). I’ve always wanted to go to Vegas for concerts and I couldn’t believe Janet and Mariah were in town at the same time, I couldn’t resist. I will never financially recover but it was worth every penny. I saw Janet basically as soon as I got off the plane and I was very sleep deprived, it was my first time in America so that felt like a fever dream I’d already seen them both before but Vegas is a whole different experience. I’d never seen Mary J. Blige, Usher or Kesha before so that’s a few more I can tick off from my list! I’ll also be seeing Diana Ross and Natasha Bedingfield for the first time. The position is irrelevant, the fact that she’s still able to chart on the Hot 100 at all (with a non-Christmas song) in 2025 is incredible! Congrats Mimi

Oh well I guess the digital release will be the same date as the physical

I know sales don’t mean anything anymore but it’s doing much better in pure sales than she usually does here. GTFO only peaked at #76 (granted it’s sales were split over 2 weeks), I Don’t at #60, Oh Santa made it to #8 but that had Ariana’s fanbase too and Big Energy #3 but that was a legit hit beyond the fanbase. So to go top 10 on sales from just the fanbase is pretty good!

This could be her first non-Christmas charting song on the Hot 100 since 2017! And first totally solo since 2015. Nothing from Caution managed even the Bubbling Under chart so I’d consider this a triumph.

Oh wow, I just remembered she’s doing the Summertime Ball so that’s why but it’s great and surprising she has some radio support here. Glad she’s taking full advantage of the slot to launch her new era!

No Mariah in the top 200? That can’t be right surely

With how low sales are right now I think it has a good chance of getting top 10! The current bar for #1 seems to be ~10k barring any big new releases, probably a bit too much to ask for but you never know if it’s a quiet week
