This could be her first non-Christmas charting song on the Hot 100 since 2017! And first totally solo since 2015. Nothing from Caution managed even the Bubbling Under chart so I’d consider this a triumph.

Oh wow, I just remembered she’s doing the Summertime Ball so that’s why but it’s great and surprising she has some radio support here. Glad she’s taking full advantage of the slot to launch her new era!

With how low sales are right now I think it has a good chance of getting top 10! The current bar for #1 seems to be ~10k barring any big new releases, probably a bit too much to ask for but you never know if it’s a quiet week

I would say so. I don’t think it’s anything new to the music industry but the way they go about it is a bit more sneaky nowadays. It’s just frustrating when you see an artist like Tinashe for example who built a following organically and did get signed to a major label but wasn’t granted the same level of promotion. Labels nowadays like to hide their association with an artist they’ve probably spent years developing and market them as “relatable” and authentic when really they’re just as manufactured as any early 00s pop group.

Only when she softened up her image with Evita and becoming a mother… Erotica was a big step down commercial success-wise from her previous work and it took her a while to recover.

I think it’s just easier to see through the machine nowadays, and if you follow pop music it’s very strange to see a new artist get 2 top 20s with their first ever releases without having any sort of prior claim to fame (like Olivia Rodrigo). I’ve checked her TikTok numbers and they’re not bad but there are people with much more views who aren’t troubling the charts. This feels like another Gayle situation to me.

That’s not exactly the same considering all the negative press she had online and ageism is a factor. It’s much easier to break a new artist by throwing everything at them and treating them like they’ve already made it than to revive an “aging” pop star’s career. It just doesn’t feel like genuine popularity, I’m not seeing real people talking about her. If you search her name on Twitter there’s barely anything about her and the few tweets there are have like 2 likes. It just seems odd to me.

Reinforces my belief that she’s an industry plant because how is she booked for such a big festival when she’s just seemingly sprung up from nowhere

I’ve still never seen any mention of this Skye Newman outside of chart discussions, does she actually exist? How is she so high in the charts?

Oh Miley :( She could’ve easily had the #1 (albeit on low sales still) if her team played the game. She’ll be lucky to keep top 5 at this rate

I understand her not touring (I wish more artists would be upfront about how damaging it can be), but I feel like she doesn’t really do anything to make up for it. She could do one-off shows, I feel like she’s the kind of artist who would go down very well at festivals

I just feel like Miley hasn’t done very much to build a loyal fanbase. She doesn’t tour, she doesn’t do much promotion nowadays (she’s an artist who REALLY benefits from that like when she did covers in 2020), she’s been successful but she hasn’t had a period of consistent success. I’d compare her to Cher or Dolly Parton, icons and household names but not everything they release is a guaranteed hit.

I love End of the World but I think she killed any momentum she might’ve had by releasing Something Beautiful first.

Katy’s peak was much bigger and lasted longer than Miley’s. Prism and Teenage Dream both debuted with ~54k, Miley’s absolute highest was Bangerz with 30k. Teenage Dream is 6x platinum and Miley’s best selling is only platinum. Miley’s career has had more peaks and valleys than Katy’s but I’d say Katy’s music is definitely more known overall.

Miley was never Katy Perry big either tbf so I don’t think it’s surprising that her core fanbase isn’t as big. This is her first album in a long time without a hit and the general public don’t even know she has an album out.

I just find it odd she’s doing so well in the charts when there’s so little online buzz, when I search her name on Google and on Twitter the first results are from the OCC and there’s little info or hype about her anywhere else.

Who is Skye Newman and how does she have 2 songs in the top 20?

I wasn’t going to order the limited edition due to the price but I changed my mind the other day when it was officially released, turned out it had sold out 😭 I assumed it was one of those “limited” ones that’d be in stock forever and reduced eventually. I won’t bother getting the standard edition tbh
