I don’t think they should be moved to a separate chart but an albums ACR type rule would definitely be good I think. Actual sales should still count but the impact of streaming should certainly be reduced after a certain point

They’re definitely happy to ignore this problem as long as they can keep making it look like album sales aren’t completely dead - which we all know they are! The general public don’t care anymore so why bother. I’d rather the chart be more representative of what albums are actually selling no matter how negligible the amounts may be.

For an artist like Kylie I’d say the aim is to chart in the top 100 rather than top 40!

No campaign is ever perfectly coordinated. And the vinyl releases are usually limited to 5k right? Which is just enough to make the top 100, and tbh the advertising it as limited to 5k definitely helps - who knows if it’d even sell that much otherwise. The focus is on the album but that doesn’t mean the singles are totally forgotten, the fact Kylie managed to chart three songs from her last album during the streaming era is a triumph

They don’t seem to be offering any solutions though. The real problem is with how streams are double counted towards singles and albums when that’s just not how albums are consumed. I’d rather have a bunch of new albums topping the charts then freefalling the next week than have The Weeknd’s “greatest hits” playlist clogging the top 10 for years

See I don’t really agree with that because remember the big push to get Dancing into the top 40? And the Real Groove vinyl etc. they seem to really care about getting her singles a chart placement, so that’s why the Thursday releases don’t make sense to me, the first day streams literally aren’t counted by the OCC, any first day sales are wasted. It’s not just BMG either because Madonna did the same thing with Medellín, I mean I know she would’ve only charted at 60 something instead of 80 something if she released on the Friday but like… why not?

Is this woman allergic to releasing on a Friday?

It seems like these drastic drops are happening more often but there’s not a lot of streams between positions. The streams required to go #1 seem to be getting smaller (or is it just me?), I feel like it used to easily reach 500k-600k whereas now that’s pretty rare. It would be interesting to see an average of the #1 song’s daily streams by year. You’d think the numbers would just keep getting higher or at least stay the same, are people paying less attention to the charts so numbers are more spread out or are they just moving to other streaming services? Or am I just wrong lol

I’m not a fan of I Wrote a Song personally, it’s generic UK dance pop to me and probably wouldn’t trouble the top 200 were it not for Eurovision :lol:

In their home countries those albums peaked at #7 and #4, Glitter is certified platinum and BJ is gold, so you can really make anything sound good or bad by cherry-picking facts. Internationally ‘-‘ is not doing well at all so while it might be an “underperformance” in the UK, in the US it’s an undeniable flop

That’s fair enough but that’s not an issue for Taylor Swift who’s literally about to release her 6th album in under 3 years :P And it may be less commercial but he’s still had a massive push, #1 on all the big playlists, and he’s still not making much of an impact. And I’m just basing it off what’s historically been considered a flop - Glitter, Britney Jean, MDNA, Bionic etc. By Buzzjack’s definition none of them should be considered flops (which I would welcome :P)

You have to look at the worldwide performance too though. IIRC only 2 songs from - charted in the US Spotify 200, he has no chance of going #1 there now, I don’t suspect he’ll hang around the Billboard 200 for very long either. Ed’s being greatly outperformed by his streaming era peers Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Harry Styles, SZA etc. - it’s just very surprising to me.

Where did anybody say that they hate him? I’m just acknowledging his rapid decline and how surprising it is. Also Ed hasn’t always exactly been a pop star, + is also a very acoustic-y album (not comparing them as I haven’t listened to either in full), so it seems like fan excuse bingo to say it’s just not a streaming friendly album. First day figures are frankly awful for an artist of Ed’s stature, if Adele posted similar numbers with 30 this forum would have been in chaos
