The Vinyl Thread
I feel like everything I wanted will just be instantly sold out on Friday though, they don’t keep any stock for exclusively online do they? I thought I’d got Mariah’s #1’s online from a Portuguese record store but they emailed saying they can’t confirm stock until Tuesday so guess I’m on the hunt for that again :( I got Sara Bareilles ‘Little Voice’ on eBay for a good price. I’ve given up on ‘the lakes’ but I was more fussed about the other 2 tbh.

UK Chart Runs & Sales
Wow I can finally stop asking how close Madame X is to silver! :P Much sooner than I expected

Should B-sides make a comeback?
Absolutely, especially now artists are selling more CD singles through their websites, they need to have something more worthwhile than just a few rubbish remixes. I feel like a lot of B-sides served a purpose, to complement the A-side (there was a lot of album reject rubbish too obviously :P). Janet’s Accept Me is one of my favourite songs of hers and it was a B-side to Every Time

Christina Aguilera - La Fuerza
I don’t see why, surely 3 EPs that don’t chart are worse than one album with a 15-OUT chart-run?

Wow was not expecting Level Up to be certified! Ciara’s first certification since Love Sex Magic. I wish I Bet got their first though, that one actually charted

Making chart debut with a Christmas song
My first thought was “who the hell is Olivia Dean?”. Then I googled and it all made sense. Alexa Dean would be more appropriate!
-
Should the OCC exclude old Christmas songs from the chart?
Should they exclude Dua Lipa just because I don’t care for her?

Adele - 30 (First Week Sales Predictions)
Tbh looking at the track running times the singles seem quite obvious (basically all of the ones under 5 minutes lol), especially Can I Get It - Max Martin, Shellback, it’s the Send My Love of 30.

Red (Taylor's Version) • Re-Recordings
Yeah I’m the same, I was 12 when Red came out! So much better hearing these songs again with a different outlook

Spotify & Apple Music Chart Discussion
Where is Avril?

Avril Lavigne - Love Sux
Loving this! Feels like the most inspired I’ve heard her in a long time, Head Above Water was a decent album but a bit dull overall. I wish she released this in a less competitive month. What are the chances Radio 1 give this a spot? Highly doubt it but I don’t see why they shouldn’t

Adele - 19
This was a very funny read! The almost 100% negative feedback. I was 8 in 2008 but I felt the same way about Adele, one of those Amy Winehouse wannabes getting pushed out of nowhere. Obviously my feelings have changed lol

I can’t defend Jesy anymore… what the hell. I couldn’t believe what I was listening to

Underrated Britney songs
Someday (I Will Understand) is #1 for me. It feels particularly poignant now - “That is all I’m praying’s that someday, I will understand god’s whole plan and what he’s done to me” makes me tear up. When I was a kid it was my absolute favourite Britney song and I had no idea it was (correct me if I’m wrong) the only song she’s written completely on her own until a few years ago. Heaven On Earth is so underrated and has always been my favourite Blackout track. Girl in the Mirror

Jesy Vulture interview discusses Blackfishing & Nicki
And no I don’t think it’s okay for Jesy to behave like this. That “so hood” line was very cringey and I find it hard to believe the label just let that pass… to be honest it feels like controversy was the goal and considering Boyz is doing better than 99% of LM songs worldwide, it’s working. The Twitter hive mind is extremely easy to provoke. Okay which is fair enough but did they really learn from it? I’m still seeing a lot of these same people trying to tear Jesy down and using AAVE to do it (white British gays saying “make it make sense”), hiding behind pictures of famous black women… maybe this could be a learning experience for them too but nope, nobody wants to take accountability for their own mistakes but are quick to attack others. Social media is very very ugly, even when it’s “justified”

Jesy Vulture interview discusses Blackfishing & Nicki
To be fair, can anybody blame Jesy for feeling ganged up on? Twitter is REALLY spiteful and constantly looking for reasons to tear people down, so when they find a (valid) reason for it, they go all in and that’s just unfair tbh. I had this conversation with someone about the hypocrisy because a lot of these people were all “issa mood” whatever when Ariana released 7 Rings and I’m just like… really? And they said Ariana got criticised too but it was NOWHERE near the extent Jesy is, Ariana really wasn’t affected by it and continues to do much of the same. Two wrongs don’t make a right but a lot of this “activism” is just not genuine. I want consistency. You can’t call out Jesy for this while giving Ariana a pass because it’s cool to like Ariana. And at the end of the day, this issue is bigger than any one pop star who really doesn’t deserve to bear the brunt of this

Lil Nas X - Montero
He is REALLY not a good singer lol That’s What I Want was painful… his songs are so well-produced that it reminds me of when The X Factor producers would give an act they’re pushing loads of help with backing vocals so they’d sound amazing

Lil Nas X - Montero
So are we all just ignoring the fact that he has no musical ability whatsoever lol

JoJo - JoJo, The High Road, Demonstrate and Disaster (2018)
Blackground is just so shady and I don’t think we’ll ever really know what’s went on between Barry and Aaliyah’s family. I do feel like Aaliyah’s family need to accept that they don’t own her music and it needs to be out there for her legacy to survive and stop expecting Barry to suddenly develop a sense of morality. To be fair, I’ve never heard of Ashley Parker Angel so I’d imagine he’s just happy to get his name out there again :P But with how it ended between JoJo and Blackground… they pretty much ruined her career for a decade and forced her to re-record those albums because they refused to put them out there for so long, so it’s understandable she’d be furious with them. This just seems like the opposite of the Taylor situation so I’m shocked Spotify are celebrating it. It’s like that Taylor live album Big Machine threw together that sold about 20 copies - she was against it and it was just quietly put out there, thought the same thing would happen here. Spotify just look really insensitive.
-
JoJo - JoJo, The High Road, Demonstrate and Disaster (2018)
JoJo doesn’t have the budget Taylor had to work with the same producers and make it sound exactly like the original, as well as the fact that she was a kid when she released those albums so of course her voice will have changed
-
JoJo - JoJo, The High Road, Demonstrate and Disaster (2018)
So messy. I can’t believe Spotify are promoting Blackground considering the artists (and Aaliyah’s family) are so against it… really seems like bad publicity for them but I guess most people don’t care about the morality of it :/

The Weeknd - Dawn FM
His voice is so thin and shrill, I don’t get the hype

Shakira - TBA
I would absolutely love this song if it wasn’t for that random EDM beat in the chorus. It feels like it was made for those Tik Tok videos you see of someone sitting still and straight-faced with the rapidly changing colour background. It’s pretty jarring and makes the song feel like a parody. It’s a shame because I love her voice (especially the verses) in this and the lyrics do something to me!!
