  1. Robbie Williams 'sad' after first bout of depression in years - but tells how 'cloud lifted'Exclusive: Superstar Robbie Williams opens up to the Mirror ahead of his massive new tour in a wide-ranging interview covering mental health, family life and Oasis Tom Bryant Associate Editor (Showbiz) 20:00, 07 Apr 2025Updated 20:00, 07 Apr 2025 Opening up: Robbie Williams speaks to the Mirror ahead of his new tour When in just a few weeks Robbie Williams steps under the lights of Murrayfield on the first night of his tour, he has one clear objective. “I want to make people happy and transport them somewhere else...if only for a couple of hours,” he says. But the singer knows he has more than his army of devoted fans to satisfy. In fact, his biggest critic appears to be his 10-year-old son Charlie. “I did this gig in Munich to 125,000 people, the place was going wild, and I’m singing Let Me Entertain You ….but Charlie has just got his head down playing on his iPad,” Robbie laughs. “But at Hyde Park last year, I came off, and afterwards, he was just looking at me with these wide eyes, like he had a moment of recognition that his dad was somebody other than somebody that tells him to stop misbehaving or the dad police.” Robbie is in terrific spirits as I chat to him from his home in Los Angeles, where as well as Charlie, he lives with wife Ayda, daughters Teddy, 12, and Coco, six, and son Beau, four. Charismatic yet a deep thinker in equal measure, he very much wears his heart on his sleeve. But even so, it takes me by surprise when he admits - straight off the bat - how he was recently forced to confront his first bout of depression for more than 10 years. “The year started with some ill mental health, which I haven’t had for a very, very long time,” he says “I was sad, I was anxious, I was depressed.” Robbie Williams is gearing up for his new tour(Image: WireImage) Thankfully, the dark cloud has now lifted. But there’s no doubt it’s been a particularly tough time for Robbie and Ayda, of late, whose parents are all suffering with ill health. His beloved mum Janet has dementia, while his dad Pete has Parkinson’s, and his mother-in-law Gwen, is battling cervical cancer. “My wife would say, ‘if your depression could talk, what would it say?” Robbie explains. “It wasn’t saying, ‘it’s my mum, or dad or your mum.’ “It wasn’t saying ‘it’s life, or tickets or the tour or the pressure or whatever.’ None of that. It just is. It’s just a pervasive feeling.” Robbie says that he found its return particularly hard to deal with when he thought he had his mental health under control. He was first diagnosed with depression in his twenties, and has undergone high-profile battles with addiction, anxiety and agoraphobia. “It’s been about ten years...I thought I was at the other end of the arc,” he says. “I thought this was the end of my story, and that I would just go walking into this marvelous wonderland. So for it to return was just confusing.” Robbie began to suspect that his diet could be a contributing factor in how he was feeling. The star had turned last year to an appetite-suppressant drug to lose weight, and shed nearly two stone. “I’d stopped eating and I wasn’t getting nutrients,” he explains. He was so vitamin C deficient he was even diagnosed with scurvy. “A 17th century pirate disease,” Rob says matter-of-factly. What did Ayda say when he was getting too thin? “With body dysmorphia, when people say they’re worried about how you’re looking, you’re like: ‘I’ve achieved it.’ When people say: ‘we’re worried you’re too thin’ that goes into my head as ‘jackpot. I’ve reached the promised land.’” So in love: Robbie Williams and Ayda Field(Image: Penske Media via Getty Images) After changing his diet, Rob says his depression gradually lifted. But speaking to the star now, it’s clear the stark reality of his loved ones being unwell clearly weighs heavily on his mind. Like many people in the same situation, he is grappling with feelings of guilt and whether he is doing enough. Being away for extended periods of time in Los Angeles - where he is now - only seems to add to the complexity of the situation. “It can be overpowering…there are elements of putting your head in the sand and putting your fingers in your ears and going, La La La,” he says. “Are you doing enough? Are you doing too little? Who deserves what, where and when and how, and what do you deserve?” Ayda, who is incredibly close to her mum Gwen, is finding it equally tough-going. “We’re a unit…and it’s a lot to navigate through….it’s a lot to be patient, love yourself and love those while they’re experiencing what they’re experiencing,” he says. Ensuring he is in a good place mentally is fundamental. “The most important thing is for yourself to be okay….. and not causing chaos in mine or anybody else’s life, like I used to back in the 90s and early noughties,” he says. “And if you are okay, then you can attack anything that comes your way.” For the time being his focus is on preparing for his huge stadium tour which kicks off in Edinburgh on May 31, before shows in London, Manchester, Bath and Newcastle. It comes after a frenetic - and highly successful - 12 months for the star promoting last year’s autobiographical Better Man film, as well as his upcoming art exhibition Radical Honesty. Great parents: Robbie Williams and Ayda Field (Image: Dave Benett/Getty Images) In a twist of fate, Robbie is going to be on the road at the same time as newly-reformed Oasis, with whom he shares a historic rivalry. As well as Noel Gallagher ’s “fat dancer from Take That” comment, things escalated with Robbie challenging Liam to a fight at the 2000 Brit Awards. But peace has seemingly broken out. “Liam’s voice is peerless…he was, and is the voice of a generation,” says Robbie. “It will be nostalgia on steroids…and hopefully it’ll be healing for the lads too. I was just looking at those songs, especially the first three years worth of songs, and it’s literally a lifetime and decades worth of bangers created over that period. The songwriting is sensational.” But it sounds like he’ll definitely give the Gallagher brothers a run for the money. “I’ve set myself out with this giant task in my own mind of being the best entertainer on the planet,” he says. “And I know that sounds egoic and narcissistic, but I’m sure that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi didn’t want to be the sixth best football player in the world if they were given the opportunity.” World...you've been warned. Robbie Williams will tour the UK, Ireland and Europe this summer, opening on May 31 in Edinburgh. 5. I got Reality Killed The Video Star 😊 Reality Killed the Video Star (2009)you are ufo hunting in the wild expanse of the desert, moving objects seen out of the corner of your eye that you don't know are real, healing but not really knowing where to begin, the smell of gasoline, reconnecting with old friends and not being sure where you stand, the calm of resting under the moonlight and the mystery of a full moon, brave boys in makeup at bus stops, the comfort of having someone close even if you are scared of them leaving, worn leather, cactuses, disco records strewn across the floor and wishing you were at studio 54, photos of the milky way, bowie in the man who fell to earth, and having someone assure you that what you're afraid of isn't real and that it's going to be alright.
  6. I am seeing stuff like this appearing on Facebook recently, it's a scam I guess 😏 [img]
  7. robbiewilliams Instagram [g] robbiewilliamsHail Keanu. 8am. I woke up and went to the toilet. Sat down. The light had been left on from the night before. It was too bright. My mind said: “Me, turn the light off.” But “me” wasn’t totally awake. So to turn the light off, I flushed the toilet. This obviously didn’t work. That sums up the first 40 minutes of my waking life every day. “We don’t do that anymore.” I’m plagued by intrusive thoughts. “Plagued” sounds dramatic. Let’s say I’m routinely bothered by them. The voice of anxiety or the unhinged madman within. “I’ll open the plane doors at 30,000 feet.” “Your career is over. It was good while it lasted. Now it’s unlasting. Ha ha ha ha. Loser.” Or: “Push Ayda into the river.” So, I’ve employed a tactic. I’d advise you to try it too. If you’re the kind of person who always thinks the worst is about to happen—say: “WE DON’T DO THAT ANYMORE.” Say it out loud. Say it in your head. Say it until you win that battle. Then say it again when the next one comes. I write these things down to remind myself. Because I get good tips and then forget them. Like jokes that made me laugh out loud and then vanish into the ether… like a dream involving Morrissey and a lock-in at Greggs. Today’s been a successful day. I’ve eaten too much chocolate and started feeling bad about myself. Said to self: “WE DON’T DO THAT ANYMORE.” Do you have a phrase that helps you reset when your brain goes rogue? Share it—I might need it. Also, re: today’s Inkling—what songs would you put on this tape? Maybe we’ll make a playlist… or I’ll draw an extra piece of art to go with it. Namaste FFS, Robert x

  10. [img] https://www.instagram.com/robbiewilliams/ Integritas Et Cacas Existential threat level: downgraded to mild unease— What a silly boy I am. Those of you following my Thinklings™ will know my mental health’s been in the toilet since the start of the year. Well—I’ve sorted it. Here’s my story. Scene: Late December. YouTube’s algorithm, in a rare burst of self-awareness, offered up one of my Better Man interviews. Against my better judgement (and every instinct of self-preservation), I watched it. Not my usual move, to be honest. Anyway, I was struck—“Chinny.” At least, that’s what I saw. My chins have been the bane of my existence since I decided I had them. I will be having a neck lift. Please save your protestations. It’ll be a waste of perfectly good typing. ANYWHOOOOOO… I’m on the weight loss injections. Again—appreciate your concern, but save it for someone less pig-headed. 😊 As is tradition, I launched into The Rob Plan™ (instant, irrational, unsupervised). Upped the dose. Cut a longish story short: I haven’t eaten for three months. Half a meal a day. Some crisps. Other nonsense. I wasn’t hungry. More worryingly—I didn’t notice I wasn’t eating. This has happened before. A doctor once told me I had… Scurvy. f***ing SCURVY. Like a 17th-century pirate. But good news—The Rob Plan has since updated. I’ve dropped the dose. Eaten three square meals a day for seven days. And—hey presto—I’ve returned to a place we shall call: “Much better, thank you.” What a div. I remember thinking: If anything takes me out early, it’ll be body dysmorphia. A dark thought. But honest. The lengths I’ll go to for a peaceful glance in the mirror? Terrifying. Sad. True. Anyway. That won’t happen. Just in case the Universe can’t tell the difference between militant honesty and an instruction: “God save me rejection from my reflection.” And God save you from yours. Much love, RW x Source RW Instagram
  11. Robbie Williams: “Absof***inglutely, the Parthenon Marbles must be returned”The British pop icon emphatically supports the return of the Acropolis sculptures taken by Lord Elgin, urging Britain to “reassess” its past. Ahead of his concert at the Panathenaic Stadium, he shares his love for Greece and reminisces about an unforgettable live performance in Athens When asked whether the UK should return the Parthenon Marbles, which were taken to Britain in 1806, Robbie Williams didn’t hesitate for a second. His response? A resounding “absof***inglutely”—not once, but twice—a phrase in British slang meaning “absolutely” or “100% yes.” Speaking via Zoom from Istanbul, where he was at the time, the music star talked about his upcoming October concert at the historic Panathenaic Stadium, his admiration for Greece, and his excitement for his new European tour. A Deep Admiration for Greece Williams, the only artist to match The Beatles’ record of 15 No.1 albums on the UK charts, expressed his happiness about returning to Greece for the third time in a decade. He described his admiration and respect for a country that has given so much to the world. Recalling his first-ever concert in Greece, in 2015, he said: “I still remember that night in Athens like it was yesterday. The crowd was unbelievable, and I want you to know—not every concert is special.” His love for Greece has even made him question his national identity. “Places like Greece made me stop feeling British. You can’t perform somewhere, feel like a king, and not leave a part of yourself there,” he said. “Sure, I support England in football, but deep down, I feel like a rebel heart—and that’s because of people like you and your fellow Greeks.” On Stage in Athens Again Williams’ European tour kicks off on May 31 in Edinburgh and concludes on October 7 in Istanbul, with Athens as one of the final stops. While he didn’t reveal much about his upcoming show at the Panathenaic Stadium, he did promise an electrifying performance: “I’ve always been a bit lazy, but once I get into it, I know how to fire up a crowd. Some artists need full control over every detail of their shows. I don’t care about that. I just know how to entertain people. But at 51, I want to evolve, and I’ve invested more in this tour than I ever have before.” As for the unforgettable moment when Greek fans surprised him by passionately singing along to his lesser-known track Me and My Monkey in 2015, Williams confirmed: “I’ll definitely play it again. I was surprised at first, but then I learned it was a Greek radio hit thanks to Nikos Aliagas. It’s touching to see a song that wasn’t a big global success mean so much to Greece.” “The Marbles Must Go Home” As the conversation wound down, Williams was reminded that the Panathenaic Stadium—where he will perform—is made of the same Pentelic marble as the Parthenon, from which several sculptures were taken and are still held at the British Museum. His response to whether they should be returned to Greece? “Absof***inglutely,” he declared emphatically, repeating it for emphasis. “In an era where we’re reassessing historical injustices—whether in racial issues, gender relations, or beyond—why shouldn’t we also rethink our past and return what isn’t ours? The Parthenon Marbles belong in Greece. No question about it.” Robbie Williams: “Absof***inglutely, the Parthenon Marbles must be returned” - ProtoThema English

Theatre school youngsters starring in Robbie Williams’ film Better Man10 hrs ago By Angela KellyColumnist A Bolton theatre school is celebrating 13 of its youngsters taking part in the new Robbie Williams’ hit film Better Man. Interact School of Performing Arts is based at Walmsley Parish Hall in Egerton during the week, and at St Peter’s Parish Centre in Halliwell on Saturday mornings .The school was founded seven years ago by freelance actors and acting coaches Lucy Pearson, who grew up in Egerton, and Emma Gilbertson from Westhoughton. Interact specialises in training youngsters from four to 18 in musical theatre, acting and performing arts including auditions and shows. Interact youngsters taking part in a performance of Fame (Image: Supplied) Both founders went to acting schools, Lucy to the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London and Emma to the Manchester School of Acting. They started their business with just four students and now have around 300. Their youngsters have performed at Manchester’s Palace Theatre, Blackpool Opera House and Bolton’s Albert Halls and also appear in in-house productions at Walmsley. They came to the attention of Better Man’s casting director Emma Stafford, who lives in Egerton, because the sister of her assistant attends Interact sessions. She needed to audition regional theatre schools when the film’s director, Michael Gracey, wanted to “boost the sound” on the biopic of the Stoke-born singer’s life with authentic Northern voices. Emma said: “Interact were above everyone else by a country mile. "The depth and breadth of the sound of the kids and how they took direction was brilliant.” Emma Gilbertson, left, and Lucy Pearson (Image: Supplied)For the recording in Manchester, they had to learn one of the film’s songs – a Gilbert and Sullivan song from The Pirates of Penzance, reflecting the period of Robbie's life when he starred in a school production. They also wanted some of them to speak lines in a scene where young Robbie was badly bullied at school. Lucy said: “They were amazing and they loved the experience.” As 11-year-old, Helena put it: “It was so exciting and fun! I learnt so much from it.” Maya, 13, said: “It was an incredible opportunity, considering this was my first time working in the industry. "It was amazing to see how it all went on behind the scenes.” The innovative film, which was five years in the making, depicts Robbie as a chimpanzee using motion-capture technology alongside human stars. The poster for the Robbie Williams film Better Man (Image: Supplied)The singer has often referred to himself as “a performing monkey". When they viewed it, Emma and Lucy and the Interact youngsters were all delighted with the results. And film critics were full of praise, hailing the groundbreaking movie “totally enthralling". 19. Ì agree with a lot of what you say Elisabeth, I find it all very confusing & have no idea what we are going to get , Looks to me like he is still kind of promoting Betterman through the songs & throwing a few new songs in there to keep the hardcore fans happy which is better than nothing I guess. A new album is not mentioned on rw.com website even though Soccer Aid & his art expo in London is so is he holding back on releasing an actual album until next year which I think would be a way better idea & let it stand on it's own merit alone & also gives him the option of touring it at a later date . I have no doubt that his upcoming tour will be great , it will probably feature a lot of 🙈🙉🙊themes . I would love to him include M&MM in the setlist but as it did not appear in the movie I guess it might not but fingers crossed it just might make it 🤞
  20. Still finding some nice reviews & comments .. 😊, Film may not have been a commcercoal success but he certainly has picked up some new fans along the way I Watched Better Man Knowing Little About Robbie Williams. Why I Think The Chimp Decision Was A Great IdeaFeatures By Mick Joest published March 24, 2025 It might seem weird, but hear me out. It's no secret that while pop star Robbie Williams is well-known in many parts of the world, he's pretty obscure as far as celebrities go in the United States. As a result, a decision was made to portray him as an anthropomorphic chimpanzee in his biopic Better Man, and while that sounds like a goofy gimmick, I'll defend it as a great idea for a fantastic movie. After watching Better Man with my Paramount+ subscription, I'm on board with our review skewing positively on Robbie Williams' story and his journey to stardom. While it's easy to write off this movie as someone who heard the monkey stunt and didn't know anything about Williams, I'm here to say anyone who overlooks it is missing out on a great movie that is one of the more exciting biopics I've seen. (Image credit: Paramount Pictures) Better Man's Use Of A Chimp Helps Soften Some Of The Horrifically Sad Moments Of The FilmRobbie Williams is a tongue-in-cheek performer, with much of his music hitting on some of the struggles highlighted in more depth in Better Man. I think a difference would be that while singing about cocaine addiction in a song can be sad, the feeling is fleeting because of its length. When faced with it in a biopic, chimp or not, there are some dark moments highlighted at length with some brutal honesty that is hard to watch. Even before Better Man gets into the throws of drug addiction or the very uncomfortable chimp orgasm scene, we see the heartbreaking origin of where Robbie Williams' quest for superstardom begins. At the heart of the story is a child ultimately seeking his father's approval and only getting it when he reaches the highest peaks of his success. To be quite blunt, it's a brutally honest and horrifically sad movie that I would say is a little too dark for Robbie Williams' brand. Making the leading character a CGI chimp helps soften the blow of some of the terribly sad moments, and I'll be honest, there are times when it's needed. I think it's worthy of inclusion on our best biopics list, mainly because it does little to defend its subject in some of his worst moments. I think that with a regular actor in the role, some may feel the movie is too dark for Williams in a way that his performances aren't, and having a chimp certainly helps. (Image credit: Paramount Pictures) The Story Gets So Good You'll Stop Caring He's A MonkeyThe unflinching picture of Robbie Williams in Better Man is not pleasant. As an outsider looking in and largely unaware of the real-life events being portrayed, I was shocked that the film doesn't shy away from portraying him as the villain or problem in some of its bigger events. At the same time, we get Williams' perspective on the matter, and we know why he makes the decisions that he does based on his upbringing and the mantra of becoming famous that he carried on throughout his life. It's nuanced, it's traumatic, and it's so good you honestly begin to stop caring that Williams is being portrayed by a CGI chimp throughout the movie. That's not to say you'll ever forget it, especially when he switches to having bleach blonde hair, but there gets to a point very early in the movie where it just stops being something to get hung up on. I'll be so bold to say that if you get fifteen minutes into this movie and you're still bugged by the fact he's a monkey, you're not paying enough attention. I think it's because I stopped caring that Robbie Williams was portrayed as a monkey that I began to appreciate Better Man even more. To take such bold subject matter ranging from Boyband exploitation (which is also highlighted in the docuseries Boybands Forever) to drug abuse and have the stone even to consider not playing it straight down the line and potentially win an Oscar for it. That's the kind of move that I've realized only someone like Williams would make. (Image credit: Paramount Pictures) Better Man Might've Flopped In Theaters, But The Ape Gimmick Was Enough For Me To Check It Out On StreamingBetter Man was a box office flop, but let's get one thing straight: financial success is not always indicative of quality. Plenty of movies with atrociously low scores on Rotten Tomatoes have topped box office charts this year, so don't always follow the money when it comes to movie recommendations. I think Robbie Williams' biopic has the potential to be one of those movies that gets a lot more buzz now that it's on streaming, or at least that's my hope now that anyone who has Paramount+ has the ability to check it out. After watching, the best compliment I can give is that upcoming biopics have a lot to live up to and will be much harder to tune into without this kind of unflinching honesty front and center of the narrative. All this to say, maybe you think it's stupid that Better Man decided to portray Robbie Williams as an ape. That's an opinion I would reckon is held by many people who have no interest in watching and won't be checking it out. I assure you, it's the biggest hurdle to overcome in checking out this movie, but once you get over it, you're going to realize like it did that it's not a big deal in the slightest. Truth be told, I watched it thinking of an angle in mind of whether the chimp decision ended up hurting a movie that would've been solid otherwise. As I've shown extensively through many points above, I don't think this movie is great unless it was done exactly the way it was made. Everyone involved in this movie has something to be proud of with what they accomplished, and I daresay this movie has inspired me to learn a little bit more about Robbie Williams and check out some more of his music. Can't say I felt the same way after watching many other biopics! Better Man is available to stream on Paramount+. Check it out along with all the other quality movies on the platform, especially if you bundle the streamer with Showtime. 23. I'LL TAKE THAT! Robbie Williams makes HUGE decision ahead of release of new album ‘because he wants more number 1s’My insider said: 'Robbie’s ambition has not diminished and he still wants to have number ones' Ellie Henman, Bizarre Editor Published: 19:00, 28 Mar 2025 Close TOGETHER they have crafted some of the biggest pop hits of the past 30 years but Robbie Williams is making his new album without his long-time partner Guy Chambers. Insiders told me Robbie, who created genius tracks like Angels, No Regrets and Rock DJ with Guy, is now working on his 13th studio album with his drummer and live music director Karl Brazil. 3 Robbie Williams is making his new album out without long-time partner Guy Chambers (pictured on the left)Credit: Getty The album is the follow up to his last record, XXV, which went straight to the No1 spot when he released it three years back. Karl has now penned three new songs for the new album with songwriter Owen Parker, called Goodnight Johnboy, Number One and Sombrero. My insider said: “Robbie’s ambition has not diminished and he still wants to have number ones. “Robbie and Guy are still dear friends but Robbie wants to explore other songwriting options on what is going to be a very eclectic record – displaying his rock influences and his skill for crafting pop hits. “Robbie has developed a close working relationship with Karl on tour and he likes what Karl and Owen have come up with. “Karl has come up with those three tracks and they’ll all make it onto the album. “Robbie is so excited with how it is sounding.” Last year Karl let slip that Robbie had teamed up with Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi for a song called Rocket, which will also make the record. Speaking about his new music, Robbie said:“ I wanted to make the album that I’d make if I’d left Take That now, knowing what I know. “This [track] is massive guitars, as you can imagine. It’s adrenaline-filled and balls-to-the-wall. That one in particular is my favourite song off my new album. “Unfortunately, and fortunately for me, pop songs turned up along the way, too. I’m like, ‘Ah, f**k – a hit.’” Teasing Robbie’s new work, Karl added: “It’s predominantly a guitar record. Let’s face it, he can do what he wants. “Modern-day Elvis I call him, he’s absolutely bossing top of the tree.” Robbie Williams makes HUGE decision ahead of release of new album 'because he wants more number 1s' | The Irish Sun
