King Rollo ranks the UK number 1 singles of 1986
Chain Reaction is an upbeat dancefloor classic. It's like 'You're So Vain' by Carly Simon in that an uncredited famous singer sings backing vocals.

I like the song lyrics it tells a story and sets a mood for staying up all night watching TV to try and forget about someone, but yeah I fear its AI because it has that autotune and also some of the lyrics don't rhyme/have too many syllables.

'Give Me Everything' I compared with 'Club Cant Handle me and yes its harder hitting dance I compared it to early 00s dance at the time. A bit grim sounding with the heys but I did quite like it at the time. 'Price Tag' I didnt like at all, just found it a disappointment after 'Do It Like A Dude' which I was a fan of. In retrospect 'Do It Like A Dude' is a bit cringe though.

I didn't really like 'We R Who We R'. It's preferable to 'Die Young' though. 'Take It Off' and to a slightly lesser extent 'Blow' and 'My First Kiss' were the only Kesha songs I really liked. Professor Green's 'Read All About It' rap is quite personal and heartfelt so I prefer it to Part 3 with just Emeli on her own. Yeah he she was too much everywhere, especially her ballads. I prefer her more upbeat stuff - 'Lifted' was fab with Naughty Boy.

Thought Vindaloo was more like Slade, being forgotten compared to more newly popular anthems like Wonderwall, Freed from Desire and Hey Jude.

Julian rates every Top 40 hit: the 1980s edition
Great standard of tracks. That Shannon song is probably my favourite of the bunch, very good and yes its so good to hear electronic production take the place of disco. Elsewhere, 'Street Dance' is a good breakdancing anthem with a synth and whistle riff 'drop' in place of the chorus - quite modern. Rockwell too, thats three great songs for American electronic post-disco, the genre is really getting good now. Used to prefer the Beatfreakz version of 'Somebody's Watching Me' but the original has more to it and retains most of its dance power anyway. '99 Red Balloons' I have liked for a long time, it is good when it speeds up. 'Radio GaGa' is overplayed but still a very good synth track, it's like a response track to 'Video Killed The Radio Star' in defence of radio, and there's quite a few 80s songs about radio - Cliff Richard also got in on the act with 'Wired For Sound' and Rush with 'Spirit of Radio'. And obviously Taffy 'I Love My Radio' in 1987. 'Doctor Doctor' is better imo from Thompson Twins than their previous or next single. Nik Kershaw 'Wouldn't It Be Good' is a bit slow and MOR for my tastes but is still a good well-constructed song.
