Portugal are trying to defend as good as England did!

'Wish You Well' and 'All Day And Night' are very good. 'Mad Love' is a bop too.

00s Top 10 Sales- Week By Week- 2000
Surprised at this comment, maybe for pop songs it was but there are quite a few dance hits including one appropriately named 'Welcome To The Dance...' The rest of 2000's charts were obviously super fast, people and radio stations must have got bored of songs much quicker back then than now.

King Rollo ranks the UK number 1 singles of 1986
Great pop song I like the production, synths and violins and some Spanish guitar! Like a precursor to her 1987 #1s in the latter, its Spanish influenced sound. It is now almost precisely 40 years since 'Papa Don't Preach's release as a thread on our Madonna forum from a few days ago recently highlighted! The chorus melody is strong and I found a comment on youtube a while ago that said the chorus melody is very similar to the synth riff in Classix Nouveaux - Is It A Dream from 1982 (a #11 UK hit) and indeed it is!

This is curious as Dobbo mentioned it too, what's your evidence FIFA would want Portugal to win over Spain?
-
Mexico v England
Not gonna lie I thought it was over for England when they got the red card, glad it wasn't.

Mexico v England
With 10 men its a bit difficult

Mexico v England
Its quite easy in football for a defender to accidentally give away penalties 😞

WTF is "pupsies - misery" another bot stream or an AI song?

Mexico v England
That was insane. Now England can just defend for the rest of the match. Only joking - attack wastes time too.

Mexico v England
The stop-start nature of the match so far helping England.

For your version of Now 102, I like 2019 chart nostalgia, it doesn't have the tropical house or Chainsmokers style production that I didn't like that the previous years had. Some of the better songs of the year were later in the 2019 though. Mabel, Ava Max and CamelPhat/Cristoph/Jem have the best songs on the album. Lol at George Ezra with that forgotten R.E.M. inspired song. I like Fisher featuring a ship horn in Losing It!

I'm a dedicated World Cup viewer so I'm staying up tomorrow night too to cheer on Belgium in their match. I think that's the last early morning match for a while.

I remember Russia 2018 when people on here were complaining about hosts Russia getting unfair advantage!

By copying Olivia Dean's style on this song! (I think Jungle - Back on '74 started the whole upbeat retro soul/jazz trend revival though).

The UK Top 40 singles of the 1980s: listening sessions + polls: next session 23 August
Van Halen - Jump Rufus And Chaka Khan - Ain't Nobody Depeche Mode - People Are People The Style Council - My Ever Changing Moods Captain Sensible - Glad It's All Over / Damned On 45* Sade - Your Love Is King The Weather Girls - It's Raining Men Dead or Alive - (Thats The Way) I Like It (Arthur Baker), Afrika Bambaataa And The Soul Sonic Force - The Renegades Of Funk Scritti Politti - Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin) Madonna - Lucky Star Its cheesy but went for 'Jump' as my fave, the synth riff is too good and uplifting (I even like Bus Stop's version of it from 1999 lol). 'Ain't Nobody' is fierce and one of the best R&B songs of all time. Depeche might dislike 'People Are People' but I like it, good beats to it. 'My Ever Changing Moods' is a great song about a topic everyone can relate to and my parents are fans of the Style Council and have their greatest hits. 'Glad It Is All Over' is way better than Happy Talk for Captain Sensible, good anti war song and the melody of 'Glad Its All Over' reminds me of one of the first 80s synthpop hits, New Musik - Living By Numbers from 1980. Sade has a lovely song and Weather Girls are iconic. Dead or Alive have a quite possibly Blancmange influenced (vocally) cover of KC and Sunshine Band's disco classic 'Thats The Way I Like It'! Elsewhere, Afrika Bambaataa may be controversial now but I shall focus on Arthur Baker, the genius producer for Renegades of Funk, sounding a bit like early house music, and for 'Wood Beez', the singer of Scritti Politti sounds like Savage Garden's Darren Hayes 13 years ahead of time - interesting! The Madonna song has a good chorus but she has better 80s songs to come.

I hope Belgium can defend well enough to make it a competitive game but I just can't see it happening sadly.

Julian rates every Top 40 hit: the 1980s edition
Relax good #1 mix of stadium rock and new wave Eurythmics Here Comes The Rain Again orchestral pop like an 80s Clean Bandit lol. Hyperactive Thomas Dolby so much fun great dance rock tune with unique video. Feels Like Heaven by Fiction Factory is very nice melodically but the vocal is a bit dreary. I prefer the Dario G operatic trance cover from 2003.

Beyoncé - MORNING DEW (DONK)
Thought it was a dance song because of Donk in the title lol.
- Beyoncé - B'Day

Paraguay v France
Another match potentially decided by a contentious penalty.

Paraguay doing what England, Belgium and Norway probably will have to do for their next matches.
