1972 Personal Top 100 Then And Now
Good track; I prefer Forrest's well produced electronic version in 1983, sounds good for the time; could almost be a house-pop song from 1989.

Lucy Dacus - Forever Is A Feeling
The video for 'Ankles' is certainly interesting! 💃🏼

I wondered why it sampled it, thought it was a bit of a random choice, but it seems like its another case of a song being sampled after the original song having recently gone viral, same with Dirty Cash. Though Aitch and Bou were being more original with their sample choice and so I'm a bit disappointed

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
'These Dreams' is such an emotive song definitely Heart's best track imo. 'Drop The Boy' isn't great imo compared to the exciting production of 'When Will I Be Famous'. I appreciate though it tries to be different in style. 'I'm Not Scared' is a good pop song, the Pet Shop Boys' sensible production makes it sound less dated than other pop of the time imo. Similar with PSB's own song 'Heart'. 'Stay On These Roads' is a nice song from A-ha, quite nostalgic. Not really a fan of the Iron Maiden track; for hard rock the band Magnum were better at the time lower down the top 40 imo.

90s Top 10 sales- Week By Week- 1997
Really really like that Apollo 440 song, nice to see another artist jump on the dance-rock trend of the Prodigy! Yeah 'Where Do You Go' must have hung around for a while as I knew it well when I rediscovered it a few years ago. Still wasn't on the airwaves anywhere near as long as the 2022 Jax/MNEK song that had a similar chorus and guitar.

That Taja Sevelle song isn't very good imo even after a few listens.

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
It's a sad song lyrically but I really like 'Ship of Fools' especially the chorus; someone should sample it in a dance track or something. Really like Aswad's version of 'Don't Turn Around' too what a nostalgic classic!

Sonny Fodera & Clementine Douglas - Tell Me
The style of backing vocals in the chorus reminds me of those in Dario G - Sunchyme

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
'That's the Way It Is' is better than their previous single 'FLM' I think. So sad about Mel (and Kim) indeed :(

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
I really like that Mel and Kim song 'ooh ooh ooh-ooh, looking at the number one' , the chorus is so catchy. The Primitives - Crash sounds to me like it could be a new wave song from 1980.

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
Yes I have long thought that Kylie's vocal style in 1988 is very similar to Madonna's in 1984

Live recordings to reach UK number one?
The KLF - 3am Eternal maybe? It is sometimes postfixed as '(Live at the S.S.L.)'

Ed’s 1,000 Favourite Hits of the Millennium (So Far)
Standing in the Way of Control - Gossip is my favourite of that past bunch of songs posted. Really liked it at the time!

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
Compared to the house songs of 1988, like 'Beat Dis' and 'Doctorin' the House' I don't think any SAW productions have aged well, they sound very of their time with the horn and string synths (although they were still used in dance songs in 1995 like The Original), but I still like them and they are undoubtedly catchy.

Sonique
It was the Matt Sassari and Hugel remix and new Sonique vocal, wasn't it? Top 5 on beatport but not charting much elsewhere.

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
'Suedehead' is good but not as good imo as many of the Smiths songs before it, so don't know why it outpeaked the Smiths' songs. 'Together Forever' is my favourite of Rick Astley's songs. 'Doctorin' the House' is interesting, some more singing in it than the other sample house tracks before it.

At first I thought on the Spotify chart that Chase Atlantic was Twin Atlantic, the latter had 'Open oop yer heart and yer soul' in a strong Scottish accent! There was also New Atlantic an early 90s rave group that were 'sort of' sampled by Chase and Status and Moko on 'Count On Me'.

Drunk In Love - Beyonce and Jay Z - really liked this at the time and was frustrated because the inferior imo 'XO' was getting most of the radio airplay for a while Propane Nightmares - Pendulum - One of the best drum and bass hits Maria Maria - Santana / The Product G&B - My parents had the Santana CD this was on and this is nostalgic The Bad Touch - Bloodhound Gang - The production is quite Pet Shop Boys sounding I think! Can’t Hold Us - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis / Ray Dalton - Loved this at the time after not really liking 'Thrift Shop' Deepest Shame - Plan B - dark subject matter but great song Ms Jackson - OutKast - my principal when I was at school at the time was called Ms Jackson so this song became popular in my school! Fix Up, Look Up - Dizzee Rascal - I like the big beat Toca’s Miracle - Fragma / Coco - Pretty Green Eyes - Ultrabeat - Love both of these some great dance music in the early 00s Am I Wrong - Nico & Vinz - Very nostalgic now 212 - Azealia Banks / Lazy Jay - really liked this at the time - this was big on late night radio 1 before it became a hit! You Know My Name - Chris Cornell - great chorus Never Forget You - Noisettes - like this - way better than 'Don't Upset The Rhythm' Strangers - Kenya Grace - one of the best UK #1s this decade Glad You Came - The Wanted - those accordion synths, must have been influenced by Danza Kuduro and Ai Eu Se Te Pego at the time! Better in Time - Leona Lewis - really liked this at the time way better than 'Bleeding Love'. Glorious - Andreas Johnson - what a chorus! Promise This - Cheryl Cole - easily her best song imo! Eat Sleep Rave Repeat - Fatboy Slim / Riva Starr / Beardy Man - a revival of the Public Domain Bass in the Place type sound from late 2000 How You Remind Me - Nickelback - great song, easily their best imo! Golden Skans - Klaxons - one of the best 00s indie songs Video Games - Lana Del Rey - really liked this at the time, very atmospheric On a Mission - Katy B - this was so different to anything else in the charts at the time Please Forgive Me - David Gray - his best song imo, nostalgic Trap Queen - Fetty Wap - this is a guilty pleasure Love Lockdown - Kanye West - liked this at the time, good production Cha Cha Cha - Kaarija - great tune, good to see genres like industrial metal in Eurovision Harder Than You Think - Public Enemy - really liked this in 2012 when it was a UK hit because of the Paralympics! Prayer in C - Lillywood / Robin Schulz - one of the best 10s dance hits imo Escapism - Raye / 070 Shake - really tells a story The Edge of Glory - Lady Gaga - has a big ending! You must have counted my shoutbox shouts for me to be top 50 surely?!- The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1988
Great time for female popstars, I guess making up for the fact that the early 80s were dominated by male bands. 'Tell It To My Heart' is certainly a lively song and less cheesy/of its time sounding than 'I Should Be So Lucky' or any of the other the SAW productions; I knew and liked it before the even more lively Kelly Llorenna cover version was a hit in 2002. 'The Jack That House Built' is great! Massive production! 'Get Out Of My Dreams' is good continuing the Colonel Abrams/Living In A Box style production; I guess other forms of dance and dance-pop hadn't been much influenced by House yet.- Radio 1's Sound Of 2025
'Radio 1; where it begins!' - the slogan from a few years ago!- Doechii - DENIAL IS A RIVER
This is very different and good. Is it bad though that it reminds me a bit in production of 'Bad Babysitter' by Princess Superstar? Much better lyrics for Doechii obviously though! - Streaming Services Chart Discussion
