  1. I would leave Hot Chocolate out of that discussion about 'Eighventies' music - I think 'Started With A Kiss' is a good synth ballad with Vangelis style synths and also they anticipated Imagination britfunk with 'No Doubt About It'! Odyssey and Shalamar do I think sound more late 70s than early 80s though!
  2. Its a better top 10 now I think on this thread than for the previous few chart weeks. Some 60s nostalgia from the band Japan there. David Sylvian does have an interesting voice that is probably a bit Marmite for some, but I like it.
  3. Yeah I think the polls have overcompensated for Trump this time after 2020 polls predicted Biden to win the swing states by more percentage points than he did especially in Wisconsin which was predicted +8 Biden at one point iirc and he only won it by +1.
  4. 'Don't Go' is a brill upbeat track and yes, kind of starts the big drum beat and synth part of the Eighties sound. 'Come On Eileen' is too iconic and joyous for me to dislike. 'It Started With A Kiss' by Hot Chocolate is very good - a more synth based song than most soul/post-disco at this time which I appreciate and it has really nice production and vocal - I really like the chorus.
  5. Haven't listened to this yet but its interesting for me becuase parts of Dasha - Austin recently in terms of style/melody really reminded me so much of Halsey's - You Should Be Sad. Both very good songs anyway.
  6. The Trio song is interesting if a bit minimalist for my tastes; the combo of modern with the synths and retro with the 60s surf rock guitar is particularly interesting. Never liked 'Iko Iko', its been on too many adverts and TV.
  7. Really like the Rivo remix stuttering synth buildup especially, it reminds me of the full version of Plummet - Damaged where they used a similar effect.
  8. Yeah Braveheart was a good 'big-room house' parody :)
  9. I prefer Colonel Abrams TIe2xGTb0Zk
  10. Would have preferred 'Abracadabra' to make #1. 'A Night To Remember' is a well known classic. I usually like Midge Ure but 'No Regrets' is a bit boring. I get why he has to change it up compared to his Ultravox stuff.
  11. Omg iconic and great 'Ready or Not' and amazing full of energy dance track 'Im Alive'. Then the great 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', heard it loads on the radio when I was younger. Then 'If It Makes You Happy' with its epic chorus which I am surprised hasn't been sampled more.
  12. 'Abracadabra' has some awful lyrics but its so catchy. Happy Talk isn't a good #1, really don't like it at all, I would put even Goombay and Charlene's #1s above it.
  13. 'Take Me To The Clouds Above' style vibes with that snippet

She looks a bit like Dua in that photo - can see why you hype her k👠th!
  15. I can understand why that Charlene song got to #1, it sounds like a MOR/older audience favourite. 'Inside Out' is the best of those new entries, great vocal, I first discovered it in a remix online. The 'Do I Do' chorus is iconic and good though!
  16. I really really like that Gary Numan song, better than 'Music For Chameleons' which was good but a bit slow for my tastes in comparison. Both tracks though kind of mix Britfunk with the bass guitar with synthpop which works really well. The Diana Ross song is good, its like a part 2 to Olivia Newton-John's Physical.

To say this is basic is an understatement. It could do with a remixed radio edit, like what happened with Navos - Believe Me a few years ago.
  18. Spinning The Wheel and Virtual Insanity are both cool sounding jazzy songs. Not really big on the other top 10 new entries - Space - Female of The Species was fab though didn't know it didn't go top 10.
  19. I don't know if I like Soft Cell's 'Torch' much, probably not really. 'Hungry Like The Wolf' to me is more American sounding from Duran Duran than their previous hits with the drivetime rock electric guitar lead. Yeah its more soft rock than synthpop. Good track and good chorus. Genesis - 'Paperlate' sounds more 1987 than 1982 with the prominent use of horn sounds and Phil Collins singing.
  20. Interactive > Original > Jay-Z and Mr Hudson >>>>> This (but it's not as bad as I thought it would be)
  21. ABC - The Look of Love and Junior - Mama Used To Say are surprisingly similar production-wise, both the post-disco genre. I like both of them. I think ABC's 'The Look of Love' must have been a big influence on Spandau's 'Gold'. 'Fantasy Island' is like a mix between Abba and Bucks Fizz, very good song and I prefer it to 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'
  22. Awful, such an awful shock :(
  23. Just looked at the full top 40 and my favourite Simple Minds track went to #13 - I'm not a big fan of that band really but this is very good: tX55HEX0hb0 As did this really eccentric track a few weeks later, kind of using Duran's 'My Own Way' violin + Synthpop combo but weirder. aJEkCDd6s-E And Kim Wilde's fast synthpop song (I really like the synth production) 'View From A Bridge I missed too a few weeks back at #16. The music sounds upbeat but the lyrical themes definitely aren't. APbaO8_b4Sw

Godley and Creme? but I don't know the song.
  25. Goody Two Shoes sounds more retro rock and roll/Shakin' Stevens adjacent, good song anyway, very catchy. 'Forget Me Nots' chorus vocal is very understated compared to 'Men In Black' and both are good songs. 'Only You' has been overplayed on adverts over the last few years which has diminished my enjoyment of it, first discovered it when it was sung by a contestant on Pop Idol iirc in the early 00s. 'House of Fun' I used to really like as a song but I am not so keen now on it.
