The BMRB Years- Top 10 Sales
Goody Two Shoes sounds more retro rock and roll/Shakin' Stevens adjacent, good song anyway, very catchy. 'Forget Me Nots' chorus vocal is very understated compared to 'Men In Black' and both are good songs. 'Only You' has been overplayed on adverts over the last few years which has diminished my enjoyment of it, first discovered it when it was sung by a contestant on Pop Idol iirc in the early 00s. 'House of Fun' I used to really like as a song but I am not so keen now on it.

The Addison Rae song reminds loads of people of Lana but not me - it reminds me of a poppier version of FKA Twigs' style from a few years ago.

Buzzjack presents.. 2014
I was thinking 'Prayer in C' would open the dance disc but unlikely. EDIT: I also forgot 'Lovers On The Sun' was a dance #1 too.

Julian rates every 20th century Top 40 hit
'Move On Up' is very good and has that Amen-break style drum beat. That top 2 both got covered/sampled in later decades helping to make the originals iconic songs. The Diana Ross song is a very nice song.

'I Love Rock And Roll' is a good track, 'A Little Peace' is OK, good lyrical themes but it is not my sort of thing genre wise, its quite MOR and retro sounding for the time, which is probably how it won Eurovision with the older voters. And yeah it maybe sounds more authentic in German. That's where I first discovered it too!

'One Step Further' is very good, I don't usually like retro UK Eurovision entries but it is so upbeat and catchy I can't dislike that. 'Night Birds' is a nice song, jazz funk/Britfunk vibes. 'I Can Make You Feel Good' is a decent track and we'll see a cover of it eventually on the 90s thread - nice to link the two threads! 'Ebony and Ivory' is boring melodically apart from the intro but has a good lyrical message. It is still preferable to the song 'Blue Eyes' which lacks the good chorus of some of Elton's other songs and is rather flat and boring melodically apart from the ending.

2014 was the strongest year for dance music in the UK chart performance-wise since 2000 probably.

Really wasn't expecting 'My Camera Never Lies' to actually be #1; its one of 1982's better #1s. Yes Pigbag was the song I was referring to a few pages back reminding me a lot of the Jam - Precious and its bassline.- The BMRB Years- Top 10 Sales
Will listen to it but its 'Videotheque' by Dollar I prefer - #17 in June 1982 and also Trevor Horn produced.- Julian rates every 20th century Top 40 hit
Yes the 'Rose Garden' song is good and I first discovered it through the excellent Kon Kan track.- The BMRB Years- Top 10 Sales
This track peaked at #11 this week, great track, there was some quirky chart music at this time: y-30lm_l-Pc -------------------------- As for the top 10 entries I think 'More Than This' is a bit boring and MOR from Roxy Music, and the Dollar track isn't the best either, pretty sure I have heard better Dollar tracks though so will check their discography.- Streaming Services Chart Discussion
The KSI/Trippie Redd song I like, with its Lil Nas X/Marshmello vibes.- Corona - The Rhythm of the Night: query
I get where you are coming from, I also think a lot of 90s and early 00s eurodance has fairground vibes and imagery, No Limit by 2Unlimited also has those vibes although it was a giant pinball machine, there was Culture Beat - Got To Get It too with the fairground part of their video, Divine Inspiration - The Way later on with the fairground video and then on the poppy eurodance side obviously Simply Red - Fairground too.- The BMRB Years- Top 10 Sales
This thread is going too fast for me :drama: Prefer 'Quiet Life' from Japan as I am more into uptempo synthpop but Ghosts is a moody and unpoppy top 10 hit. My favourite Bucks Fizz song used to be 'The Land Of Make Believe' but now its definitely 'Camera Never Lies', it is such a bop. The mock accents though :nono:- The BMRB Years- Top 10 Sales
Yes 'Party Fears Two' is very good and yes, very eccentric is a good description of the Associates' vocalist's singing style. Apart from that some more synthpop and jangle pop guitars. The guy repeatedly striking the gong in the second half of the video is humourous in that Layla live 1984 video. The song itself is very good anyway especially for 1972.- Streaming Services Chart Discussion
Very morbid the reason 'Dirty Cash' has re-entered but its a very good song, 1990 maybe wasn't the best year for UK chart dance compared to 1991-92 but 'Dirty Cash' was a gem.- The BMRB Years- Top 10 Sales
'Just an Illusion' is a good song, probably Imagination's best song, interesting lyrical themes.- The Best Song Contest In The World... Ever! Part VII
Interesting theme, timely when the trip-hoppy Neneh Cherry - Woman was on TOTP BBC 4 reruns recently.- The BMRB Years- Top 10 Sales
Yes its my favourite addition this week too, very good track, a song I have liked for a long time, and the start of the 80s sophisti-pop genre. I can kind of see how Goombay had a MOR/older audience appeal. Its a bit annoying they call themselves a 'dance band' when 'Seven Tears' isn't very dancey at all.- David Guetta, Alesso, Madison Love- Never Going Home Tonight
'Fake Lana' didn't become that popular on TikTok :( Shame as its a nice song.- 90s Top 10 Sales- Week By Week- 1996
'I am, I feel' I remember from radio at the time, I used to think was an Alanis song, it is a bit more poppy than her on reflection.- The BMRB Years- Top 10 Sales
Yeah I agree popchartfreak that Ride Like The Wind was Christopher Cross' best song although I know it more from the East Side Beat version. I never really liked Mickey it was annoying and even in the late 90s on some music channels like VH1 way too much. Centrefold yeah is such a singalong anthem until you realise the lyrical themes. As for See You yes the lyrics are still jolly and poppy but the music is darker. - The BMRB Years- Top 10 Sales
