Julian rates every Top 40 hit: the 1980s edition
Joe is the better Jackson for me here (he doesnt suffer from too much radio airplay), Stepping Out is just brilliant synthpop and piano. I still really like Billy Jean and along with Too Shy are good funky and fun pop tracks. Prince's 1999 is fab, it kind of marks the end of most traditional early 80s disco and the start of synth dance/R&B. Original Down Under is way overplayed and I prefer the Luude remix now. I might have discovered Electric Avenue in 2001 too. The Cutter is a good indie track and Springsteen/ Sam Fender vibes with the saxophone style ending.

Friday Chart Predictions
Ciao Bella! Still #3 on Spotify though.

HUGEL & SOLTO - Jamaican (Bam Bam)
Also Waterman by Olav Basoski + Mitchie One was a minor UK hit in 2005 and a 'Spinnin TV Classic' using the same sample.

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1993
The UB40 cover is a dreary slog to listen to imo, sorry. Jump Around is great fun. Tribal Dance is OK and I like the tribal intro albeit it doesn't last long enough but I prefer their previous tracks.

Sybil's vocals from a 1993 song are back in the chart now because of Prospa! Sadly uncredited though.

The BuzzJack Friday Chart Show Thread: 24th April 2026
Glad Olivia Rodrigo is #1, the buildup at the end of the first verse sounded like it is going into EDM-pop like Chainsmokers lol but it doesn't of course.
-
Justin Bieber feat. Nicki Minaj - Beauty and a Beat
I thought at the time that the verses were quite weak compared to the other club bangers of the early 2010s.
-
Olivia Rodrigo has her fourth number one single. Two new albums battle to prevent Olivia Dean staying at the top of the albums chart.
I wonder will Tomora play at the Tomaraland (Tomorrowland) festival?! 4 beiber songs in the top 40!

BUNT already did a not very good remix of Sweet Disposition.

UK Singles Chart new entry of the week | 2026 Weeks 15 & 16
The James Hype song is a good progressive house track, I originally wasn't keen on the flat bassline house trend like Chrystal The Days NOTION remix and No Broke Boys but the buildups in Be Mine fluctuate enough in melody to be good. I hate the lyrics of the DaBaby track (it is from the usually explicit Miami Bass genre) but the production and rap flow are very good! More faster house-leaning hip hop songs like this please! The verses of the Katseye song are very good but I don't like the chorus. I like the ending though. I wish Chris Brown would return to his club banger era. 'Runway' I dont mind - at least its house, some of the vocals remind me of Lizzo.

Discuss the Girls Aloud song you are listening to
Call The Shots, Loving Kind and Untouchable are their best sound I prefer the calm and cool dancepop sound from them.
-
Round 1 : End Of Year Survivor #142
I really like the Tinchy version actually! I voted for the Amy Studt song although Scanty Sandwich isn't very good too.

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1993
Utah Saints Believe In Me is good - good to see a rave track still make top 10, the genre had declined a bit at the end of 1992.
-
The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1993
'All That She Wants' is very good. 'Tribal Dance' is good it almost sounds like rave never went away at the end of 1992. Peter Andre so copied the 'And if you cry out' pre-chorus melody from Sweat (A la la long) for Mysterious Girl! Good song anyway.

Jester ranks the number 1s of 1987
Just realised that Duran Duran might have started the trend with The Reflex in 1984!
-
Jester ranks the number 1s of 1987
S/A/W became more generic and cheesy in 1988 really, before that they were mostly pretty cool in comparison.

Now That's What I Call Music!
At least they've gone for the right Richard Marx song :)

My record of the week 60 years ago
'I Fought The Law' and 'Police and Thieves' are both good Clash covers!

Jester ranks the number 1s of 1987
There's definitely a distinction between Mel and Kim's sound though compared to the rest of Stock, Aitken and Waterman's productions. Mel and Kim were more house music influenced. Respectable is a good and fun dance-pop song!

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1993
'Everybody Hurts' is such a sad song I always thought! Like the opposite of 'Shiny Happy People', although I often detected a sarcasm in the latter song. Good song though.

Ruin a 20th Century song title by changing one letter... a game for all!
The most disturbing letter change I found is a Bowling For Soup track but its 21st Century.

UK Singles Chart new entry of the week | 2026 Weeks 15 & 16
Voted for Be Mine and Pop That Thang, the latter only because I like the production (the Miami Bass genre). Unfortunately the genre tends to be very explicit lyrically. But yeah Be Mine is very good easily the best entry with some good buildups.

The Saturdays
All Fired Up obviously for me! I like the eurotrance influenced production and the moody deeper register vocal!
