Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
Annoyingly people are reporting they’ve had emails of up to a month delay for some of the Kylie deluxe editions and Little Mix cassettes.

Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
The Disco reviews have been...surprisingly good, with a meta critic score of 81 so far. https://www.metacritic.com/music/disco/kylie-minogue

Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
Yeah if they both sell a little over 50k as projected, they could quite easily have the top 2 weekly sales of the year so far. Which makes them being released in the same all the more frustrating!

Sam has also over overtaken Ariana on the iTunes albums chart.

Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
If preorders are around the same, I think that Little Mix will get it. They have around an 8k streaming advantage that needs to be built in, I just don’t see Kylie selling 8k more physicals than Little Mix during release week.

Spotify & Apple Music Chart Discussion
While the Ariana numbers are obviously impressive, it is quite a dramatic decrease from Thank You Next, which averaged nearly 550k streams per song first day, whilst positions averaged just over 300k. If streaming continues at this rate, I don’t see the album selling much more than 35k first week

Those Ariana streaming numbers are way below Thank U Next. It will still be an easy no 1 for her this week.

Ariana 6 songs in the Spotify top 10.

Spotify & Apple Music Chart Discussion
These were the first day numbers for Thank U Next. I’m interested to see how the numbers for Positions compare given that it seems a little more low key. 01 [01] Ariana Grande – 7 rings 907,729 02 [NE] Ariana Grande – break up with your girlfriend, I'm bored [*NEW PEAK*] 785,361 03 [NE] Ariana Grande – needy [*NEW PEAK*] 563,841 04 [NE] Ariana Grande – NASA [*NEW PEAK*] 532,121 05 [NE] Ariana Grande – bloodline [*NEW PEAK*] 527,089 06 [12] Ariana Grande – thank u, next 523,496 07 [NE] Ariana Grande – fake smile [*NEW PEAK*] 479,100 08 [NE] Ariana Grande – bad idea [*NEW PEAK*] 475,792 09 [NE] Ariana Grande – ghostin [*NEW PEAK*] 452,412 11 [NE] Ariana Grande – make up [*NEW PEAK*] 408,937 12 [87] Ariana Grande – imagine 408,857 15 [NE] Ariana Grande – in my head [*NEW PEAK*] 384,615

iTunes Weekly Thread w/c 30th October 2020
Kylie remixes always do very well on iTunes, which is why people notice them. I don’t think she releases any more than any other popstar!

iTunes Weekly Thread w/c 30th October 2020
Why does iTunes have such difficulty separating out remixes from existing songs in the charts? Say Something is still showing as the Disco version on the chart.

Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
I think some of it will be how willing the respective teams are willing to engage in the battle during release week. It’s clear that both can sell a couple of thousand very quickly by signing copies, so I imagine there will be more of that during release week. Both Kylie and Little Mix did that during their last release week. I also wouldn’t be surprise to see reduced prices on iTunes and Amazon during the week to try and encourage sales.

That seems quite low for Ariana for day 2? Thank U Next and 7 Rings were pulling in 700k - 1m streams a day for days after their release.
-
PREDICT: Ariana Grandes opening sales + peak
I don’t think this is going to pull in the first week numbers Thank U Next did. Both Thank U Next and 7 Rings were consistently pulling in 700k - 1m streams for days after their release, Position is under 500k on day 2 and could likely drop off the top spot on Spotify as soon as tomorrow. Ariana got 43k streaming equivalents for the last album, I doubt she’ll get as much this time around, and with no physical on the cards I’d say 40-50k at the most for the first week.

Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
Drake has posted that his album is coming in January next year, and Adele has said that her album is not finished, so at this point I can’t see any surprise releases upsetting this chart battle!

Not the 2 versions of this thread already hitting 17 pages combined with 2 weeks to go to release...

Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
Can you explain why you think Kylie doesn’t write her own songs when she’s credited as a co-writer? I’d be interested to hear your reasoning.

Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
It’s a good thing we aren’t talking about a competition in the singles chart then isn’t it? I’m sure I don’t need to explain to you about the difficulty a 52 year old woman is going to have with getting radio play outside radio 2 and any Spotify playlist exposure.

Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
Double post - but just to add, Kylie relies soo much on in your face TV and radio promo and she has done pretty much none of it this year.
-
Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
The closeness of those preorders doesn’t bode well for Kylie. But to be fair Little Mix have really been working for it, with multiple batches of signed copies, lots of prereleases to generate interest etc so they deserve them. It’s so odd that Kylie has barely engaged this era, Graham Norton is going to have to do a lot of heavy lifting for her to still be in this race.

Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
Little Miix got 9000 first week album stream sales last time around compared to Kylie’s 1800. I imagine that Kylie has more presales given how long it’s been on sale for, so that could dent that lead considerably. I think a lot is going to come down to promo on the week, though I would expect Kylie to be ahead in the first midweek update.
-
Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
I do think people may be overestimating some of these first week sales a bit. Lady Gaga currently has the highest one week sales of 2020 with 53k, I’m not sure if Little Mix or Kylie are in a position to have the largest one week sales of the year?

...and finally the sales breakdown for Golden: 1 NEW 'GOLDEN' Kylie Total Sales: 48,032 CD: 28,152 Digital: 9,010 Streaming: 1,870 Vinyl: 6,398 + around 2,500 cassettes. Those streaming figures are dire, hopefully they will pick up a bit this time around.

Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
Also, a daily breakdown of Golden’s sales, Graham Norton promo (Friday night) helped hugely with that last time around. Fri: 24k Sat: 31k Sun: 34k Mon: 37k Tues: 41k Wed: 44k Thurs: 48k

Chart Battle REVISED: Little Mix vs. Kylie
Supermarkets are all open during lockdown, hopefully they will be stocking new releases. I’m not sure what HMV shops percentage of the market is, probably minimal in 2020. The only other surprise release which may interfere is Drake.
