Babydoll is gonna p!ss me off during its non-consecutive 27 weeks at #1. At least it's something different* though even if it could have come out in about 1981. I miss dance, drill and grime songs getting to #1. Why the funk do I even still follow the chart? 37-year-old habits are hard to break, I guess. *I say 'different' even though it's the same rhythm and around the same bpm as Rein Me In. RMI is as dull as fcuk though and I say that as a Sam Fender fan, at least this is quite uplifting and sounds like a chart-topper I guess. I can't think of a way to make the charts more interesting and exciting in this day and age other than going hyper-ACR and/or somehow STOPPING BORING B@STARDS FROM LISTENING TO THE SAME SONGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN months after your average Buzzjacker gets intensely bored of them. I mean after about 6-8 weeks of hearing a song I like or even love I do feel like I need a long break from it so I can enjoy it all over again with fresh ears, but maybe that's just me! Or perhaps it's just that when one cohort of listeners (i.e. us cool pop kids who are onto stuff from day one) are getting bored of a song, another one is just getting into it (casual listeners) and when they tire of it another 'demographic' (people who are barely even arsed about music but like something a bit catchy and familiar to soundtrack whatever the feck they're doing is) picks it up. And that's what makes the streaming-era charts so sh!t, slow and boring!

It can be hard to get invested in albums because I didn't pay £10-15 for them like I did in the old days. In the streaming era, I'm a sucker for listening once or twice then forgetting they ever came out.

I will. Looking forward to it! I've been going through a whole load of classic albums from years that end in 1 or 6 for their anniversaries but not got many left now and after that it is time for a bit of a "recent albums I've slept on" marathon.

Looking at the stats, the only song as a lead artist they ever got behind was 2On. And All Hands On Deck a little bit, I remember that. Both very good tunes. Totally there for people getting BIGGER in their thirties especially after I'd presumed they were official pop toast! EIGHT ALBUMS.

Must be a difficult job deciding what's going on the R1 Playlist these days, obviously they can't just look at the charts but if things are blowing up online like the Tinashe album it makes sense to acknowledge that.

Lots of critical acclaim for this record which I think has encouraged R1 to get on board. Although No Broke Boys did a magnificent job at resurrecting her UK presence. Need to check the whole album out myself! Great to see Sucker For Love on the playlist, I personal charted it months ago when 6 Music that I don't actually listen to playlisted it. Better late than never!

Not gonna happen unless something they do really blows up!

Yeah, I generally use the Radio 1 playlist as a guide to what the important songs are because Spotify's New Music Friday UK & Ireland playlist is a minefield and it can be hard to know where to start even though I do add anything I like the look of on there to my own new music playlist. But I never wanted my chart to just be the Radio 1 playlist in a different order so it's fun to get other stuff in there. Obviously when I was young and the official charts were fun to follow most of the singles worth bothering with went Top 40, and when I went into my local record shops, there were around 10-15 singles in the new releases section so everything was very easy to comprehend but now there's tonnes of new music to get to get to grips with, New Music Friday tends to give you 100+ fresh songs every week but a lot of them are what would have been b-sides in the physical era. It was so much easier to make sense of things then, and this is why I trust the Radio 1 playlist to act as an alternative and more diverse Top 40 whilst keeping an eye on what Radio 2 and 6 are playing too. My system is to look at my past 30 days of streaming stats and rank the songs accordingly. I tried other ways of dong it and this was always the best one even if it means hardly anything enters high. When I'm streaming in the evening I tend to move away from the R1 Playlist and check out other stuff on my new music playlist (the one where things are vying to get in my chart), hence all these Pete Tong-style songs getting in the lower reaches of my chart recently.

Quite a mad chart this week, I got a little tired of the Radio 1 Playlist so went rather off the grid with my listening plus there are some major dropouts and a bit of a mid Jorja song very high by default as old favourites decline. Amazed Stop The Wedding isn't in yet too but it just hasn't had enough streams (looking at the stats I'd put this around #62). However, I did turn my Wi-Fi off during some recent new music sessions so wondering if some data got missed, usually everything gets sent to last.fm once I switch it on again. Reminds me of hearing Post Malone followed by someone featuring Post Malone ten mins later a few years back! At least it's not Crapital where they play the same songs twice in the same show then just pretend the first time didn't happen.

Been watching Celebrity Traitors and was reminded of that five minutes of when Maya Jama was the future of Radio 1 and they crowbarred her into Scott and Chris' show and it was totes awks. But at least she was live! They never seem to learn when it comes to influencers and YouTubers. The listeners hate it and their followers don't all flock to R1 in droves either. IT DOESN'T WORK!

Feels like Going Home should just be renamed Katie and Friends now for at least a little bit of consistency. Nonetheless, I have been getting back into R1 and R2 a lot over the past few days, Spotifying just ain't the same and gets lonely. The Good Groove is filling in gaps in my R&B/soul/disco knowledge I never knew I had too. There is no need to pick a side when it comes to R1 and R2, flick between the two and you can have the best of both worlds, with R1 Anthems filling the void with slightly edgier but ageing things that the latter isn't ready for yet. Also great to hear Suggs on the former for presumably the first time since 1999 with his soon-to-be iconic collaboration, Track!* *Pain in the ass editing this every time I play it but the personal chart must be accurate!

For some reason when I stream Innocent Smile by Skepta, Suggs and Jason Status (little in-joke with myself), it now shows up with the title 'Track' (obviously featuring the afore-mentioned guest stars). Please tell me I've not gone completely insane and that's happening for other people too. Comes up as 'Track' on last.fm too, which could really mess up the stats I need for my personal chart. I know Austin turned into Austin (Boots Stop Workin') a few weeks in and there was that George Ezra one too but changing the title completely really is a new one on me!

Hope it's not too late, he was huge 6-7 years ago and Radio 1 still play things like Industry Baby and Call Me What You Want a lot, would be great if he could get another hit after the time he's had.

Hmmm. Not for me. Why does it have to be so...fecking unadventurous?!! Guessing it works for them though or they wouldn't be so stale and repetitive. They must be shedding listeners to that 6 Music Indie Forever surely?

Massive playlist, today's stingy four adds seem even more ludicrous looking at that. There is SO much daytime R1-friendly stuff about, loads of catchy stuff across the specialist shows so not sure what they're playing at!

Never noticed how many dance acts' names start with a 'C' until today.

Streamed it earlier, enjoyed it but it definitely sounded more like an album track/promo single, certainly not very commercial. Would imagine they'd go for something more uptempo for the official second single as Marianne was also quite slow. Looking forward to looking silly when they add it next week.

4 new adds is stupid, hope it's the calm before the storm as they normally add tonnes after weeks like this. Loads they could be playing instead of the deadwood and where's I Could Be Madonna? Speaking of MTV VMAs Artist of the Year Madge, thought Danceteria might get a little re-add now Charli has jumped on it but let's be honest that was very wishful thinking considering they binned the original off after a fortnight and we were lucky to get that in the first place.

Thought R1 Anthems did really well on Sounds? Can't cost much to run either, isn't it mainly repeats from the main station's overnight output? Definitely think they'll be gunning for telly first, BBC Three comeback has just turned out to be a load of Top Gear repeats etc by all accounts.

Not a world I want to live in after listening since I was six in 1989! It's like a marriage, I mean we've had our ups and downs especially when I had that five-year sulk after Mark and Lard were binned off and I turned into a bit of an indie snob before I got massively back into it around 2009/2010. Amazing presenters can come and go, as can really crap ones from YouTube/TikTok etc and sometimes the playlist gets into a bit of a lull especially when a trend I'm not massively into dominates an era, but I wouldn't be without it. Then again, I might not exist in 20 years either.

Well, 60 but close enough. Ish.
