I'll get the ball rolling with Jessie Ware and Two Door Cinema Club. Not a massive fan of P!nk but her songs still do well on streaming and in the charts etc and it seemed they binned her off the second she turned 40. Kylie an obvious example. She only got on twice in two years because one went viral and the other was with The Blessed Madonna, who isn't exactly 20 herself but still a relatively 'new' artist. I'd never heard of a Trust Fall/Trustfall until a few years ago.

Plastic Box not quite clicking for me I'm afraid. I was surprised at Dior returning to #1 too, guess I went overboard with Victory Lap just over a month ago and now those stats don't count and it's settled back!

Inspired by the other thread, I thought we would go for even more. Sorry if some of these are already in that. Also open to things that weren't even released as singles in the UK but are extremely well-known anyway. Obviously it's normal for big songs to miss the Top 40 all the time now so should we keep this to, I don't know, 2009 max? It's largely to help me fill gaps in my retro playlists. Basically tunes that are pretty famous now but didn't do a lot then. So please help me. Sorry if I or six million other Buzzjackers have done this before. I can't remember! I know I'll probably get sh!t for this. But it will really be really useful, I don't want my throwback playlists to be missing a single non-charting classic (nothing since about 2006 really matters as I used Radio 1 last.fm stats to compile those)! Many of these will be guitar bands. I'll get the ball rolling with: Joy Division: Pretty much everything apart from Love Will Tear Us Apart and Atmosphere The Cure: Boys Don't Cry (at least originally), Jumping Someone Else's Train, Charlotte Sometimes, Let's Go To Bed etc New Order: Bizarre Love Triangle, The Perfect Kiss Elbow: Powder Blue Manics: Motown Junk R.E.M: Stand, By The River Pixies: Monkey Gone To Heaven Suede: The Drowners Annie: Heartbeat Rick James: Superfreak Stevie Nicks: The Edge of Seventeen Robert Palmer: Johnny and Mary A Flock of Seagulls: I Ran St. Etienne: Like A Motorway (remember this from when I was 11 somehow but only realised it didn't chart a few months ago. They were great on Top of the Pops, Pale Movie is ace!) Turns out Dermot has some too Some of those charted the second time round though. These are just from the top of my head, feel free to come up with more options that are a bit less guitary. Just found out this got to #77 in 1991. Had no idea! Also Come Out And Play by The Offspring got to #98 for one week in autumn 1994, but I had to keep that separated. EDIT: Google says there have been several threads along these lines, but not one exactly like this and some of them were quite short or a very long time ago. Doubt most of these have gone platinum either.

I would appreciate it if they did the 00s properly, these years deserve a deeper dive and some of the Millennium choices were very random. I have bought all the Yearbooks so far aside from 1997 and 1998 because there are too many important omissions and they were hardly my favourite years anyway. I COULD end my collection at 1994 or 1995 but let's face it, I'll probably get the standard editions if/when they're cheaper. Just happy to have finally completed the 80s!

Do not be surprised if Victory Lap is at the top of my chart for the next 400 years from Friday. It's right up my street, it could have been designed for me, it makes me feel so good! Hope you're well.

Mr Hadji, The lead times on vinyl are ludicrous. By the time the records were available, every song on the album would be absolutely ancient and there would be limited public interest in them. But you already know this, yet choose to persistently ignore these obvious massive obstacles. It's like talking to a brick wall. But you rarely respond to anything, you just double down on your crazy ideas, like this forum's pjex (if you know, you know), and just say "they should" a lot. Happy Monday!

Have missed explosive high-energy rap getting in the top ten. Nah, they'd only go for it if it was big on Radio 2. This is what they're trying to do, it's airplay hits now. There was a time when Now only included Radio 1 and Top 40 songs but they had to change their approach after the charts slowed down ridiculously. Only thing is, even Radio 2 generally forget that a lot of their veteran act playlist choices even happened the moment they fall off their playlist. They played Spike Island by Pulp* to death in May, it probably won't be on ever again now as the only old songs they really play are actual hits. Radio 1 aren't much better for that, it's only old A-list songs that get on as recurrents really, most B-list songs are gone forever once they leave the playlist. So in a way, you could thank Now for ensuring anyone thinks about 2020s Pretenders songs ever again! *Wouldn't have been a bad shout for Now 121, maybe Rough Trade told them to pee off or they didn't try. It's been a pretty high-profile comeback!

I think this looks pretty strong to be honest. Not too many Radio 2 veteran flops hardly anyone will think about ever again and lots of genuine hits. Not buying it or anything but there have definitely been worse and weaker ones over recent years. It just makes my teeth itch when they add things from about six months ago as it ruins the 'time capsule' concept. Abracadabra came out ages ago, so certainly not a spring/summer 2025 song. Is she not releasing another single from this album? Thought Garden of Eden would have been pushed by now, it charted well.

It would be nice to see more rap but it's not really been that big recently. I'm sure it will be back with a vengeance before long especially with the popularity of the very banging Fred Again.. x Skepta track that I can't get enough of. Yes it does seem strange that they haven't opened with the much bigger option but hardly the end of the world, it's only a compilation album. I just make my own playlists of recent hits and guess what? Mine starts with Manchild! It was hardly going to be Ordinary as it's just too...Ordinary.
