Friday Chart Predictions
Sad to see Snubrina Carpenter falling already but at least Ordinary can't ruin my childhood now and take over Bryan's record, even if it goes back to #1 for another 15 weeks. ACR isn't working as the labels have manipulated things so the charts are just as slow and boring as they were anyway, we need double ACR or whatever is needed to flush out the old hits or you'll never get young people interested in the charts. Feel like most of us only follow now cos of tradition and habit (guessing there aren't too many teenagers on Buzzjack going on the comments the most prolific posters make). Think someone on here said the 'Hot Hits' playlists needed to have a faster turnaround and be more adventurous and I'd definitely be behind that. It was rare for even the biggest hits from my late 80s/90s childhood to last longer than a couple of months apart from the most famous long-runners from films, which got a lot of people who wouldn't normally buy records to do exactly that. Also, a 'hit' to me in 2025 is something I heard on the radio loads regardless of where it charted. It's no wonder so many of us have our own faster and more exciting personal charts really, is it?

Post-Sheeran Male Solo Acoustic Guys: The Comprehensive List
Just wanted to point out that Tafty was joking and it's all fine now, it was some Buzzjack in-joke stuff that went right over my head and we're all fine now, sorted it over DMs!

Post-Sheeran Male Solo Acoustic Guys: The Comprehensive List
It ain't going away, there'll be two or three big ones every year for the rest of our lives! Some will have multiple hits and long careers, others won't.

Post-Sheeran Male Solo Acoustic Guys: The Comprehensive List
I have tried and tried to like that Sombr song but turns out it was just too whiny for me. Also put a lot of effort into getting Djo but just not clicking!

Post-Sheeran Male Solo Acoustic Guys: The Comprehensive List
Again, didn't mean to pee anybody off but it certainly seems to have inspired a fun debate!

Post-Sheeran Male Solo Acoustic Guys: The Comprehensive List
As Yard Act once said, "we CAN'T have that!". One of the reasons I got so into Sam Fender was that I expected him to be like this but then he completely surprised me with loads of Springsteen-esque songs about austerity and life in the North East. Gotta admit, I completely presumed he'd be one of the beige ones when he first emerged back in 2018. But then I heard Dead Boys!

Radio 1 Playlist (13/06/25): Can't decide if I should take a sexy picture of my manchild
Just making my provisional Alternative Now 121 (they all seem to start with Sabrina Carpenter* these days as I like to begin proceedings with the biggest chart hit I like) and I have no idea why Sub Focus & bbyclose's On & On hasn't been playlisted. It's been bubbling under erm, the Top 79 for ages too. 11 weeks. Think I've only heard it on the specialist shows on there. Bizarre playlist omission, you'd think it would be perfect for daytime R1! And they normally love Sub Focus' more commercial tracks. *Doesn't mean 'alternative' as in indie although guitar bands do get on, it's basically just MY favourite chart and airplay hits of the season

Radio 1 Playlist (13/06/25): Can't decide if I should take a sexy picture of my manchild
They'll be racing back into the office to add Joel Corry now.

Snubrina Carpenter.

Radio 1 Playlist (13/06/25): Can't decide if I should take a sexy picture of my manchild
Maybe he could get some older stars like Kylie, Pet Shop Boys and Pulp on if he's this influential.

Radio 1 Playlist (13/06/25): Can't decide if I should take a sexy picture of my manchild
Which literally came out today. Most things don't get insta-adds!
-
Radio 1 Playlist (13/06/25): Can't decide if I should take a sexy picture of my manchild
Can't believe R1 had to be shamed into playlisting the current UK #1 single from one of the biggest popstars on the planet, they were definitely going to snub it. People power! Etc.

Post-Sheeran Male Solo Acoustic Guys: The Comprehensive List
Anyway, I respect other people's opinions and one man's 'beige' is another man's 'powerful timeless songwriting'. There has definitely been a trend though over the past 15 years, and there's no doubt it was well underway before, only the blokes were called James* rather than Tom. I'm sorry if I've insulted anybody's heartfelt solo bloke favourites, but there's definitely a pattern of their music being omnipresent, the same basic chord sequences over and over, the melodies and lyrics only changing slightly and them quickly being replaced after a few years with virtually identical chaps with or without growly voices doing largely the same thing. I suppose you could call it 'landfill beige'. Can feel like they're taking up the space bands used to fill! *Blaming Oasis/Snow Patrol/Coldplay and even Radiohead for the plodding ballad 'James' thing. Actually, I suppose we could even point the finger at The Beatles and Hey Jude if we went back far enough.

Post-Sheeran Male Solo Acoustic Guys: The Comprehensive List
Maybe I should have said 'beige' instead of 'acoustic'.

Post-Sheeran Male Solo Acoustic Guys: The Comprehensive List
I refused to include Ben Howard in this list because he's pretty much a genius compared to the ones I did opt for as well as starting around the same time. And his music is too complex/not bland enough. Feels like he realised he was being put in that bracket and changed direction immediately after his BRITS win. If only they all had the talent and creativity of Ben Howard!

Radio 1 Playlist (06/06/25): My bodyguard is a zombie with a sapphire gun
Let's face it, this place wouldn't be the same without Hadji complaining about Radio 1 playlist decisions and countless choices made by the Now! That's What I Call Music team that were outside of their control anyway.

Post-Sheeran Male Solo Acoustic Guys: The Comprehensive List
Ironically, I quite like Gold by Myles Smith. Though feel he missed a trick by not releasing it later in the year as it has a very autumnal/festive feel to it. Most of these guys have at least one track I don't mind tbh!

Radio 1 Playlist (06/06/25): My bodyguard is a zombie with a sapphire gun
It's 14 now, which is kind of in line with what you'd expect with an A-list song by Tuesday. Still, SHAME ON THEM for not typing it into an online list of songs only people on here and similarly invested types really look at anyway.
-
Radio 1 Playlist (06/06/25): My bodyguard is a zombie with a sapphire gun
Yeah, one per show is fine, it's when it's loads of them that it loses the 'contemporary' feel for me!

Post-Sheeran Male Solo Acoustic Guys: The Comprehensive List
Surely 'Worst topic in all of BuzzJack’s history' is some sort of an achievement so I'll take that. People on here DO get tired of these samey bland acoustic blokes ruling the charts and airwaves for months on end and this would be a good thread for people to vent about it, without changing anything. And why should it be deleted just because you don't like it? Sounds a bit entitled to me, like someone clicking their fingers in a restaurant. I completely fail to see why this isn't a valid topic, thought this was supposed to be a place for discussion around big pop music trends.
