I did something like this too. Lots of overlap with yours as expected. I've done this for all 105 Nows and done additional ones for periods where there wasn't a Now like summer '91 etc. First-class dance and R&B in this era. Still think Will-o-the-wisp is by far the best thing on this, but I Don't Wanna is easily my favourite single from this era (the current scenario has definitely helped). Whole thing is probably a 6/10 from me and I'm a lifelong fan. Really thought Thursday had a good chance of cracking the top 40 back then, was gutted when they skipped it when it was #40 on the R1 chart update (too many new entries to get through). But had fallen 21 places by the end of the week! The wedding song on this is stupid. Nonetheless, still the best album by a pair of sixtysomethings I've ever heard.

Okay, thanks. This is such a fun listen in any case. "S Club Juniors now - must be weird for S Club 7 to see youngsters doing their job, as us middle-aged Radio 1 DJs will once be painfully aware". Lots of 2002 pop is generally much cheesier than it is now. Lots of S Club, Cheeky Girls, Las Ketchup etc. But here's Put Him Out off of Ms Dynamite - a stone-cold classic!

Toosie Slide is pure self-parody. Something tells me it's not going to number one for several months, even in a lockdown.

Caught the last hour of this. Conclusion I came to is that they all had cross-generational appeal, many of them were very retro (mainly borrowing from the 60s and 70s) and they probably all made the Radio 2 playlist. Am I right on the last count? No surprises at the lack of massive hip-hop streaming hits like One Dance that aren't Heart-friendly and don't fit the criteria already mentioned. Fully expecting to see Blinding Lights and loads of other songs that sound like the 1980s in the 2030 equivalent of this. People of a certain age on social media seem to LOVE Blinding Lights cos Take On Me.

I have returned to this album three months down the line and am really enjoying it. This is definitely not what 47-year-olds sounded like in my day, musically or lyrically. We had to make do with Rod Stewart making Tom Waits songs even worse! Every single time he drops a new album the critics tell us he's irrelevant now, doesn't connect with young people etc and then his album goes to #1 in 100+ countries around the world. It's almost as if it's wishful thinking. Has even had a pretty massive streaming hit this time round, and you don't get those without vast portions of the youth being into you. Yes, some of his lyrics are pretty uncomfortable and disrespectful but this has been the case since I was still in school (I'm pushing 40 now) and they are designed to shock and provoke debate as ever. It'll be interesting to see how long he can keep it up for. Doubt he's going to be wind up on Cooking Vinyl or headlining Bingley Music Live anytime soon. For fun's sake, Radio 2!!! Is it still going to be like this in another ten years? If it's not MC Hammer or novelty Chic-sampling Will Smith rap from the nineties, they generally still avoid it like the plague.
