  7. Do you (usually) play compilation playlists such as Hot Hits in order or on shuffle? Neither. Do you (usually) create your own playlists? Absolutely. I have a new music playlist which feeds into my fake Top 40 playlist. Current #1 - Say So, since you didn't ask. And then I have my Alternative Nows which round up the biggest bangers of the past four months or so. Do you (usually) listen to ready-made compilation playlists? Sometimes I listen to recent Nows to see how they have approached sequencing. What determines what you add to your own playlists? My Friday morning ritual sees me checking New Music Friday to see if anything looks appealing but I also look at what Radio 1 have added to their playlist. I add things people I like have 'dropped' throughout the week too. Do you usually listen to artist albums, EPs and mixtapes? I'm definitely a singles man. I'm more likely to give an album a spin if I'm really into the band or if the pre-release singles have made me really excited. But I only seem to get properly into a small handful of albums each year. Too much filler, if you ask me. Do you use apps such as Shazam to inform your listening selection? Every so often. Do you feel ready-made/curated playlists skew musical tastes and the charts? Oh yeah, total echo chamber with passive streams being far too influential. Don't know what the solution is. Thanks!
  8. They need to pull something banging out of the bag, loved the first era but things like These Days are totally not what first drew me to them.
  9. I'll give you the dancey but not the uptempo. Seems pretty midtempo to me. But yes, songs like My House already exist, no need to rewrite them.
  10. Yeah, I listened to Tokyo Drifting a lot but can't actually remember what it goes like!
  11. Also, I'm not one of these people who cares about the odd missing track or ever-so-slightly different versions of songs being included. What I really don't get is the throwback songs on the main Nows. I understand why they might draw attention to the re-issues but surely just a single bonus track would do. A wealth of 35-year-old songs at the end just seems to defeat the object of modern Nows. Plus, they could easily fill both CDs with radio hits even without dipping into Radio 2 veteran fodder. Plus, I suppose we can also attribute the decline of the brand to people doing what I do - making their own 2hr 40min playlists of tracks that have defined recent months. And yet, I still see it as a hugely valuable institution that really needs to be kept alive.
  12. I have Now 4 on CD and must admit I've spent much more time looking at it than actually listening to it but can these really cost them that much to produce considering how many 100 Hits CDs for you see going for a fiver? Lots of them are absolutely brimming with huge songs. I don't know that much about this but I might just snap up all the re-issues including the ones I've already missed if they keep going.
  13. Not really into indie veterans no matter how much I loved Pulp as a teenager but about to go in on this. I hope it's not an embarrasing ironic pisstake. UPDATE: I doubt I'll be aching to return to this. No doubt it'll be on the 6 Music A-list for several weeks and lauded as a modern classic.
  14. Yes, this is very Youth in style. This is a good thing. Soaring up my personal chart!
  15. I've never really been into Biffy but I'm really enjoying Instant History, even if it is a bit like a post-album single from that Muse album Nero worked on. Which is no bad thing to be fair. Got a soft spot for Follow Me.
  16. This sounds good on first listen but I also miss uptempo PVRIS with the trancey synths that sounded like a clubbier Paramore. My House, St Patrick, that kind of thing.
  17. I want them to re-issue the editions from my golden Now era (late 80s/early 90s) as quickly as possible so any delays are very much unwelcome. Even if it's not that hard or expensive to obtain the originals.
  18. Tracklisting can't be far off. I've already done my Alternative Now 105 so anything coming in the next couple of weeks will have to absolutely blinding to warrant inclusion. Opens with Blinding Lights and I wouldn't be surprised if the real one does too. Can't see them also going for Dance Anthems favourite Braindead (Heroin Kills) off of Piero Pirupa, mind. I spend loads of time listening to all sorts of new music and in the end I just end up mainly opting for what's all over daytime Radio 1 as those songs just tend to be the most anthemic, season-defining and accessible even if they miss the Top 40. I might leave my own tastes at the door and do one of those tracklist predictions soon.
  19. Aaaaand the movie's been postponed, which means the theme song preceded it by ten months!
  20. Zara Larsson seems to be prematurely on her way out. Thought she'd have a big follow-up era. Can't seem to get another album out. I had high hopes for Ava Max too but Sweet But Psycho is the only one I've really liked.

In the US, it seems that various big songs/acts have been locked out of the primary singles chart for much longer than they have here. But they have all those interesting genre-led charts that kind of make up for it a bit. However, our genre-based charts are absolutely full of ancient songs. I know people on here know more about this than me, but should we have better new music-themed genre charts like theirs and is there any chance of it happening? It's a bit crap when you load up our indie, rock and dance charts or whatever and just see loads of overplayed songs that came out 300 years ago. Fire away!
