No mention of excruciatingly unfunny sketches this time!
  2. Elbow, but that was only because they did a John Lewis ad.

I don't like the sketches/interviews idea, they only have half an hour to play with. Weren't unnecessary features part of what killed TOTP in the first place? Still, if this goes well I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being renamed Top of the Pops and the classic formula was brought back. Also, to the people who think interest in the repeats will wane, there is zero chance of the Beeb refusing to give pop pickers and 6 Music listeners of a certain age the chance to relive TOTP coverage of baggy, rave, grunge and the Battle of Britpop.

Oh crap, I forgot Slide! That'd be in the lower reaches of my top ten.

Not sure about The Killers, these bands continue their relevance because there are so few big rock acts to replace them. No sign of new Muse on daytime R1 though yet it's on Radio 2. A lot of these bands get dual promotion on both stations when they are at a crossroads, though more and more acts are supported by both stations from the outset, particularly the more MOR/radio-friendly ones. I see the Foos are still going strong on their 400th Radio 1 era, though the new tune is way too aggressive for Radio 2 (though Dead Inside by Muse was hardly easy listening, and that got on). I'm not sure The Killers' last era was massive, but neither was the FFs'. However, The Killers have been away for longer, which makes it easier to quietly move them over, as Take That will tell you. Dave Grohl is in his 27th year of relevance. Smells Like Teen Spirit came out when I was eight!

Hope so, there's some wonderful upbeat stuff on Dance Anthems like Kattison and Mark Knight that never crosses over because it's off-trend.
  8. I miss pre-hits Major Lazer but that's another story. Wish songs like Pon de Floor, Jah No Partial and Get Free had been as big as their recent efforts.
  9. I think it does sound like The Chainsmokers though, it's surely not a million miles away from being Something Just Like This Part II unless my ears are playing up. Whatever the case, it's very on trend and nowhere near up there with her best. Still, might grow on me.
  10. I am conflicted about this Gaga song. Sounds very relevant and has a big chance of getting her back on Radio 1, but it also sounds like The Chainsmokers.
  11. Can't work out whether that Harry Styles tune sounds like it's from 1986, 1972 or 1991. Almost expected him to go "ladies and gentlemen, Mr Elton John!" towards the end.
  12. Ooh shite, there's got to be a compromise between reflecting what people are enjoying and bringing some excitement back to the charts. Like watching paint dry over recent years.
  13. Things got so bad I was praying Sheeran would top himself. With Galway Girl, obviously. Am starting to think it's only a matter of time re: Adams though.
  14. If Shape of You equals or surpasses Everything I Do I'm staging a protest outside Official Charts Company HQ. That would be the final nail in the coffin of my childhood. It's average at best!
