HiyaLuv!

Thanks Sergej, In Your Eyes is great, deserves to be a real #1. Shame it's going down the chart because the public won't move on from Blinding Lights!

Hi uhsting, thanks for replying! He'll probably never have a hit again but good to see him pop up here and there every so often. He doesn't do coke on the weekends but we can still drop him a line!

I heard Clara play Streets Impala yesterday so I suppose it could make it. Not into it myself, his act is very dated. He was irrelevant for several years before he split up with himself. And yeah they need to upload this new playlist, I have adds to steal (unless I've got them already).

Okay, so the chart week runs Sun-Sat for the rest of my life regardless of when I publish it. If I post it on a Sat or Fri you can rest assured I'm not streaming any new music for a day or two. wk 66, w.c 19.4.20 01 (01) Lady Gaga: Stupid Love (40-11-5-3-1-2-1-1) 02 (05) The Weeknd: In Your Eyes (15-5-2) 03 (04) Alan Fitzpatrick vs Patrice Rushen: Haven't You Heard (Fitzy's Half Charged Mix) (27-7-4-3) 04 (11) 220 Kid feat. Toosie Slide is pure self-parody. Something tells me it's not going to number one for several months, even in a lockdown.

Caught the last hour of this. Conclusion I came to is that they all had cross-generational appeal, many of them were very retro (mainly borrowing from the 60s and 70s) and they probably all made the Radio 2 playlist. Am I right on the last count? No surprises at the lack of massive hip-hop streaming hits like One Dance that aren't Heart-friendly and don't fit the criteria already mentioned. Fully expecting to see Blinding Lights and loads of other songs that sound like the 1980s in the 2030 equivalent of this. People of a certain age on social media seem to LOVE Blinding Lights cos Take On Me.

I have returned to this album three months down the line and am really enjoying it. This is definitely not what 47-year-olds sounded like in my day, musically or lyrically. We had to make do with Rod Stewart making Tom Waits songs even worse! Every single time he drops a new album the critics tell us he's irrelevant now, doesn't connect with young people etc and then his album goes to #1 in 100+ countries around the world. It's almost as if it's wishful thinking. Has even had a pretty massive streaming hit this time round, and you don't get those without vast portions of the youth being into you. Yes, some of his lyrics are pretty uncomfortable and disrespectful but this has been the case since I was still in school (I'm pushing 40 now) and they are designed to shock and provoke debate as ever. It'll be interesting to see how long he can keep it up for. Doubt he's going to be wind up on Cooking Vinyl or headlining Bingley Music Live anytime soon. Non-single highlights: You Gon' Learn, Yah Yah, Stepdad, Farewell.

For fun's sake, Radio 2!!! Is it still going to be like this in another ten years? If it's not MC Hammer or novelty Chic-sampling Will Smith rap from the nineties, they generally still avoid it like the plague.

As overwhelmingly male as ever, I see.

What the heck happened to Emeli Sandé's relevance? She was omnipresent around eight years ago. Bet most people don't even know she had a third album.

Almost always up for a bit of Mills on Radio 2 but I fear this will be Sheerageddon so I'll just follow it on here. EDIT: Maybe not then, just seen the other comments. I have heard Shape of You hundreds upon hundreds of times, all of them against my will.

Very possible! Especially with not much of note coming out recently and lots more long-runners due to be flushed out pretty soon. I shouldn't like that song because I'm pushing 40 but what a brat!

I have heard quite a bit of late 80s/early 90s dance on Radio 1 recently - Groove Is In The Heart, Rhythm Is A Dancer, Gypsy Woman, Good Life, Everybody's Free (To Feel Good) etc. As long as they don't sound too dated and have quite a bit of cross-generational appeal, I don't see a problem. Obviously, if they're going to go as far back as that, it's more likely that they'll play those songs than, say, Ain't No Doubt by Jimmy Nail. And of course, they've recently playlisted new takes on things from 1986 (Move Your Body) and even 1980 (Haven't You Heard)! Also, MistaJam's extra hour of Classic Dance Anthems means even more airtime for that sort of thing. He went as far back as 1987 with Steve 'Silk' Hurley yesterday! https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000h87k

I wrote a blog about my massive dependence on Radio 1 during this crisis. https://theworktrials.blogspot.com/2020/04/...ring-times.html

FFS Radio 2! And then they wonder why people like 37-year-old me stick with R1. Still, at least they're playing it. Rap has been around 40 years, they need to get over themselves now. Suppose a lot of the older listeners hate it though. Must be hard catering for people in their mid-thirties (many of whom love rap and dance) AND mid-sixties (lots of whom despise rap and dance).

OMFG that's instantly the greatest music video of all-time. Colour me stunned! If that can't make it a hit nothing can. That's just the best thing that's happened in popular culture this year! And no expense spared with the guest star lol, definitely pushing for a hit! The director is a genius, and was possibly on every substance referenced in the song when he dreamt it up. NOW SLAY!

HA HA HA! I almost daren't click on this as it looks too perfect from the thumbnail alone!
