AH SHIT! Of course it was, my bad, if people still say that.

Does make me wonder how Radio 1 decide when they are finished with a band, they obviously don't just go on chart positions. Muse long gone unless Hottest Records count, wet as Biffy have probably had longer than they had on the playlist?

I did mean Instant History the song not album. Loved that just before the pandemic kicked in. "THIS IS THE SOUND THAT WE MAKE" Wasn't particularly arsed about the rest of the album though.

Very inconsistent band, the Scottish Foos. They have Black Chandelier, Many of Horror, Instant History and Bubbles etc and their early more post-hardcore stuff John Peel liked but also total Josh W@nk like that "THERE'S NO 'I' IN TEAM!" one and the generic festival ballads. Radio 1 still on board last time, bet they ditch them next time!

We all know this is going on the 20th anniversary deluxe edition of A Celebration Of Endings in 2040 if AI hasn't wiped us all out by then.

    Well, that's tonight's nightmare sorted.

Sometimes the Live Lounge is all about "how boring, lifeless and beige can we make this recent banger?" but can't deny there have been some amazing WTF? moments since it was first introduced by no, not Jo Whiley, actual SIMON MAYO in the late 90s if I remember rightly! All started when people were amazed/amused that fiery guitar-wielding uncompromising groundbreakers* Travis would cover/indiesplain a big pop song like Baby One More Time, nowadays that kind of thing is totally normal. *Sarcasm klaxon, they were just James Blunt if he was a band with more NME credibility

Well you couldn't accuse them of not spending time on their unique take on this global smash!

Wonder if WAP will remain the rudest UK #1 ever, it'll take a lot to surpass it!

Bought a phone just for PICTURES of that wet as Biffy.

'Wet As Biffy!" Actually I think I did hear this properly once or twice, I think my mind might have just repressed it for over half a decade to protect itself.

OMG forgot they retitled it. Bracing myself for something that might now be even more mind-bendingly embarrassing and cringe from the Scottish Foos than it was six years on.

Yeah, I remember hearing ABOUT this but I don't think I ever had the pleasure if I remember rightly! Cheers, straight on it after I've finished my Fake Pete Tong sesh. Can't be as good as Fuse ODG doing Waves surely etc. A rendition so excruciating a clip was in the awkward middle bit of Bambaleo Wednesday for a long time.

Sometimes* I just do my own fake Radio 1 sessions on Spotify (particularly when the playlist is getting stale and repetitive) so I don't hear the clean versions for a while and it totally throws me when I go back. Does WAP ever get on as a recurrent as that 'clean edit' was absolutely Ludacris? Don't feel like I've heard it on the radio since, was only ever B-listed at the time like they didn't really want to play it. *About five times a week, the bits of the playlist I'm not totally sick of interspersed with 'modern classics' and any rare good Radio 2 veteran songs that are knocking about.

Radio 1 have never had an issue with Stormzy finishing with a facial just to top it off either. Oh, he meant a cosmetic skin treatment. Of course! Silly me.

I remember Katie Thistleton explaining that "it's, erm, not about the kind of tears that come from your eyes" when she was introducing it on release week. Radio 2 had no problem with the thigh tears either and they normally play it as safe as fcuk!
  17. HiyaLuv! posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
And yet Chappell Roan and Sabby C were allowed to bang on about foreplay until the cows came home! Plus that's before we even get to tears running down the latter's thighs.

You could say it ruins me.

Was quite excited about this, not so sure now if this is the amount of ancient music we're getting. Listen to some new songs FFS, the general public!
  20. Not sure it's a proper single!

Just been thinking and I don't want to start a new thread about this or anything but I wish someone with more social media power and influence than me would make Uprising by Muse go viral and possibly get it back in the hit parade again after all these 'AI and tech bros will have us all dead within 3, 5 10 years' headlines we keep seeing. Feels so much more relevant 17 years on. And I'm actually scared to be honest. BUT THAT'LL SHOW 'EM!

The idea of a pre-recorded daytime show especially on a weekday* is absolute sacrilege. Why can't she do it live if she's so good? AND we have to lose Matt and Mollie for six consecutive Thursdays! Reminds me of when R1 were obsessed with YouTubers then they all lasted about five minutes, their followers didn't go to R1, the regular listeners hated it and it was over before it began. Did Aled learn nothing from Danny Beardgate? *I remember people being really annoyed when we were stuck with a pre-recorded Sara Cox on a Sunday morning too but it's a really bad idea on weekdays when loads more people are listening and they want to hear the presenter react to things in real-time. You can get away with it on specialist shows late at night I suppose but I think most people would much rather the DJ be live, this is probably why I can't get on with the R1 Anthems and Dance spin-off stations that much. Music radio really needs to be live, especially before a certain time of day.

Listening to Mylo and Rosie and thinking it's quite mad how much 90s Radio 1 hated 80s Radio 1. Nowadays you hear songs from 10, 20, 25 years ago all the time on Radio 1, 30 if it's things like Firestarter, Insomnia and Born Slippy. And something like Shut Up and Dance that was just on feels like ten minutes ago to me. They wouldn't have touched an 11-year-old song like that in the mid-90s or even the 00s if I remember rightly. Heck, they even played Stop by the Spice Girls an hour ago. I wonder how the imaginary young people they target feel about it all. Ten years is ages to someone in the target audience, not so much for all of us pensioners who just refuse to tune out ever obviously. What was it about the 80s they wanted to get away from so much? Associations with cheesy DJs? Did the 80s sound more dated then than they do now? They'll slip in a song from 2010 like Alejandro or California Gurls without batting an eyelid now. They certainly weren't playing very much from 1984 in 2000. I remember, I was there. And now Shake It Off is on! And Sing, also from 12 years ago! How far back should R1 go in your opinion? I suppose now R1 Anthems is a thing they have an excuse for randomly dropping in songs from totally different eras as it helps promote that. I guess it's ironic how I'm one of the old fart listeners that wants more new music, not less. I'm sure someone with massive pop culture analysis skills has a very deep and intellectual answer to this that's all about streaming culture, slowdowns in pop production techniques etc.

Hoping it will mean chart plays for tunes that will fall out by the Friday but let's face it, it will mainly be stuff that's been around since the stone age.
