This is what I do too, but this is only a recent development! I invested in the protective outer sleeves at the end of 2023. I wish I'd done that a lot sooner. Before that... I stuck the hype stickers directly on the front cover! Which I slightly regret now, but never mind. I doubt I'll ever sell my collection, so no worries about putting off buyers with that! 😎
  4. Apparently I'm Older Now is going to be one of the songs released on her Rosie Frost website to coincide with this book's release.
  5. This will be no surprise coming from one of BuzzJack’s Spice Girls forum mods, but I still find Bag It Up to be enjoyable! A highly camp disco-tinged pop song, full of the bravado and cheekiness that Geri had in bucketloads back then. She really sold the heck out of this song in the performances of it. Overall, I think it’s a fun pop package! I genuinely think it’s well produced, even though I’d concede that her vocals are… well, they’re Geri vocals! 80s music fans / fans of Wham! might be interested to know that Pepsi and Shirlie perform backing vocals on this track. In the grand scheme of things, clearly All the Small Things has considerably more of a legacy, and on those grounds it feels like it would be more fitting that it made it to #1. However at the time I don’t think it felt out of place that Geri beat Blink-182. Bag It Up sold 255k within the year 2000 (42nd best seller) while All the Small Things sold 196k (67th). All the Small Things on paper is not my cup of tea, but I will say that the power of nostalgia is strong, to the point I have some affection for it, I wouldn’t skip it if it played. Side note: my favourite Blink-182 song is I Miss You.
  6. In that era, a lot more importance was placed on the Top 75 specifically though. From my perspective the singles chart operated in a similar fashion until at least 2015; I wouldn’t say things changed drastically directly after 2006 to the point of classifying 94-06 as a distinct period. The “pent up demand with held back releases resulting in high debuts” thing, that was still very much happening throughout the download era (for singles released before an album). Ultimately it was a solid 20 years of the chart working like that, with high debuts not just possible, but normal. A significant chunk of the chart’s history! So I wouldn’t say it was an exception. It’s not like today’s charts are all that comparable to pre-1994. They’re all very distinct from each other!

Thanks tris.tan, just moving your posts here because we already have a thread!
  8. I do miss when new artists could come charging out the gate with their first release and reach #1 (or even Top 10)! It was an exciting aspect of the chart, pre-this decade. A new boy band going straight to #1, such as The Wanted in 2010, seems like an impossibility now. If they had launched in 2025, would they have had the industry support/traction to even go Top 100 with their debut? Pixie Lott - how many songs would she have needed to release before eventually striking lucky? As Joseph said, nowadays it feels more the case that new artists release a string of songs that likely don't bother the charts, but nevertheless they gradually build up a fanbase. Then that leads to being able to tour academy/theatre venues, and achieving a charting album (that's frontloaded to the first week). It feels like some artists' measure of success is through social media engagement & stream/view counts, rather than chart positions. Of course there's moments when the stars align for artists and TikTok virality suddenly triggers a song into becoming a charting hit, maybe their very first to chart. It seems hard for some artists to sustain this. If their next song doesn't make waves on TikTok, then Spotify don't extend their support past that flash-in-the-pan moment. I suppose it's a good thing that artists these days can have long careers which aren't reliant on any singles success - that the pressure to have singles success likely just isn't there at all now, because it would be an unrealistic expectation from their management/labels. Whereas 10-15 years ago, The Wanted/their team probably felt wary if any of their singles missed the Top 5. Very different times! To answer the question directly: I'll be very surprised if any artist manages to get to #1 with their very first release in the future! Never say never. It just seems that it would require a remarkable stroke of a luck to be possible.

Hmm? Generational labels are not new terms or lowly used/known about!
  21. Beyond thrilled that we got tickets @HausofMayhem @lotita!! It's literally all I've been thinking about all day lmao Well done everyone else who has them so far, and best of luck in the general sale for those trying then!
  22. Oh, not too likely to make the Top 100 by Friday then. It doesn't seem like it's going to make it to 5000 sales (and it would really need 5500 to have a good chance of charting). It's interesting to see how many physicals it's sold though! 165 of the 4,525 sales this week so far are downloads and streaming. Which suggests 500-600 sales maximum digitally this week. So its digital support is like 10% of where it would need to be to be a charting hit (without physical boost).
  23. It's such a gorgeous song, hits me in the feels. It does precisely everything for me!
  24. Honestly I believe that all the team behind this release cares about is that they've sold copies and have made the money. That the job is done and they are not paying close focus to what these sales ends up translating to in the UK chart. With each release that happens, I just become less enthused with caring about the Top 100, particularly when it's a side project. It doesn't really mean anything to Kylie's career if it ends up at #54, #87 or misses out. It's sold what it's sold!
  25. Geri in The Sunday Times: “We love each other. I love them, I care about them, we want the best for each other,” she says. “We shared something so monumental. We’ve always believed in each other, had trust in each other, which is beautiful.” Do the five women have a group chat? “Yes, we do.” What’s it called? “I’m not going to say.” I mention the viral video of four of them (minus Mel B) dancing together at the celebration for Geri’s 50th in November 2022. Tight-lipped silence. “My hope is we come back together as a collective. It’s more respectful to come as one.” As in all five? I can’t quite tell if she’s just eager to please or giving me the exclusive. “There will be something. We’ll come as one,” she says. She picks up her phone and waves it at me. “I’m smiling because I got a text from Mel C just this morning. She’s doing her thing out in Australia.”
