  1. Kylie likely doesn't bother making an effort with Santa Baby because it's a cover, released on a previous label... so it's just left to its own devices. The fact that it's managed to do pretty well in the streaming era feels largely by chance. Same goes for why she hasn't pushed any of her other Christmas songs in recent years. If anything happens with one of her songs in the future, it'll likely only be because Spotify randomly decide to favour one, rather than a specific effort being made. I highly doubt it'll even be on her wavelength that Santa Baby is performing less well or that she'll feel the need to react to that. Maybe if she did a second Christmas album (with BMG) she'd put the work in! I'll always think both the 2015 and 2016 attempts were rather mishandled anyway. All those original Christmas songs, yet she launched the project with Only You which is not even a Christmas song... madness!

    :cheeseblock: The impact, the importance!
  3. Anyone still going? :kink: I think I'll say goodbye to Christmas music after today though, and turn my attention back to the hits of the year!
  4. Just realised the physicals were already counted in the UK chart on 20th December, despite that being its release date. #2 - Vinyl #3 - Physical #5 - Sales
  5. Lots of Life in Mono! My favourite there is possibly I Wasn’t Looking When I Found Love, her vocals sounds really pretty on it. Mischievous is a bit of a bop!
  6. It’s a lovely performance  O3v3COpe4h8 Unfortunately it didn’t translate into great sales, it’s currently #122 on iTunes. No sign of the Spice Girls original in the Top 200 either!
  7. That's true  I'll consider giving it a helping hand :teresa:

Digital release confirmed for 3rd January! Surprised it's this early?
  9. :cheeseblock: Truly deserved! Such a long wait for it to happen :o
  10. I never got the Tension deluxe in that size format... and tbh £8.99 is still a bit much for an additional copy I don't really need :kink:
  11. The one item I really want to get slashed in price, Extension, is more expensive than ever... £39.99 :drama: I should have gone for it when it was £15 on Amazon a few months ago, oops.
  12. 'Not Tonight Santa' sadly isn't doing as well this year, but it's not surprising with it being bumped off the Christmas Pop playlist. Currently it's 6th in their Popular Top 10 with 9,631,013 streams (quite the contrast to 2024 when it was already 4th place as early as 24th November). It's increased by 339,004 since the last total I noted down for it on 2nd June 2024. Whereas it managed around 2.5m streams during Christmas 2022, and similarly in Christmas 2023... which certainly shows how important particular playlists are. A bit of a strange one that Spotify decided to stop supporting it in the year of their comeback! :drama:
  13. Christmas Wrapping on 13,117,478 streams on Spotify. It's not yet managed to move into their Popular Top 5 songs (it's currently 6th). Too Much is 9th, ahead of Mama (pretty sure it's usually the other way around?).
  14. I'm very happy to see that it's managed Top 10 in the US, at long last! Also it's huge that it's the most streamed Christmas song released in the 2010s! :o I received my 7" gold vinyl from Amazon the other day but haven't had chance to play it yet - today has to be the day!! Also Ariana has blessed us with a live version :cheeseblock: GwWaFgu8q2w

Looks like they're hoping for the song to have impact in that week then, with the vinyl release too! I'm keeping my fingers crossed it reemerges in the Top 100 on 3rd January though *.*
  16. 100 weeks is such an incredible achievement  Legendary song! And the Fortnite collaboration is iconic omg.
  17. :cheeseblock: Smash!!
  18. A perfect 10 :cheeseblock: A great winner, one of the defining songs of 2024! Thank you for hosting this Jonjo! :cheer:
  19. 28 years since the release of 2 Become 1 27 years since Too Much 26 years since Goodbye :drama:

I doubt I'll buy any more vinyl this year... so here's my 2024 list! :D Someone on Popjustice had the idea of making their post a bit like a "Spotify Wrapped" with some stats. At least I was, but then I embarked on the task of finding out how much money I have spent to get those 46 items. 3 albums were gifts from friends, thank you to them! (those albums being: Tension II, Body Language and Shawn colour vinyl). Ultimately I spent: £686 on 23 albums and £271 on 20 singles - a total spend of £957. Eeeek! For some reason the expenditure on singles feels worse to me than the albums. Then it leads me to thinking that this is before taking into account CDs, cassettes, merch... :drama: I think for my own sake I won't work that out!! Most expensive albums: £66.49 - Charli xcx £55.53 - Madonna £41.81 - Chappell Roan Most expensive singles: £28.00 - Steps [Record Store Day is so scandalous...! I'm sure I could have waited, but I had FOMO] £27.71 - The Blessed Madonna/Kylie Minogue [£7.71 was postage... it's rather rare though, so no regrets!] Cheapest albums: £16.99 - Steps (Buzz) £14.99 - 5 Seconds of Summer £14.85 - Claire Richards Cheapest singles: Both of the Dua Lipa singles. I bought them in bundles with CDs and Cassettes, so the postage charge was spread out across many items. Training Season was only £4.99, Illusion was £7.99, and even with postage charges they still came to under £10 each. None of the other singles I bought this year cost less than £10 with postage. Bargains... the one that stands out to me is Mariah Carey's Music Box 30th anniversary on 4xLP. It cost £34.53, which is about half of its RRP of £69.99. It's a lovely item so I was very pleased to nab it for that price! I was pleased that Steps finally released their first 3 albums on vinyl this year, and that Girls Aloud continued their reissue campaign with their second album. I think my favourite vinyl packaging has to be Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets Department. It's very high quality, includes an attached booklet... it just feels very fancy!

I'd forgotten that 4.0 did a cover of Santa Baby. I listened to it yesterday (which was the first time I had done since maybe 2010) and I quite enjoyed it to be honest! With the Christmas-mentioning New Year, there's festive representation in my playlist from Sugababes past and present. Santa Baby only has 40,000 streams on Spotify!
  22. Really looking forward to hearing it in full on Friday! I hope the purpose of this 2 Become 1 release and the Strictly performance is to reintroduce her to the public as a solo singer, and that it's going to lead to more new music from her. The song is being released by "The Orchard Enterprises, under Sony Music" - The Orchard Enterprises NY, Inc., doing business as The Orchard (also known as The Orchard Music), is an American music and entertainment company, specializing in media distribution. It is a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment, based in New York City. So between that, being back with Simon, working with Stephen Lipson... I hope it's all pointing to more.
  23. One of her best  It's a huge shame that it's not on streaming!
