Indeed her Tension/Tension II cassettes are so lazy from a design point of view. :( There should be a fold out sleeve with pictures / credits and even lyrics!

Wicked (2024) • General discussion
What a truly fantastic film! One of the best I've seen in a very long time. I didn't actually know too much about Wicked's plot before viewing, neither was I particularly familiar with the songs outside of Defying Gravity... and both aspects of the film are amazing. Despite its run time, there wasn't any point that I felt restless. What an extraordinary voice Cynthia Erivo has, and an incredible actress too! Ariana was incredibly strong too, which shouldn't be a surprise but nevertheless she excelled even beyond what I already knew she was capable of. It wasn't long into the movie that I stopped seeing her as Ariana Grande and fully saw her as Glinda. I hope both get *all* the awards for this!

Spice Girls - Chart Runs & Sales Thread: UK
Looks like it was a good week for sales of the Yoto card (and hopefully a few CDs/Vinyl  ) because Greatest Hits is back in these charts: #54 - Physicals #55 - Sales Let's hope that this physical boost, alongside reasonable streaming units, is enough for it to re-enter the Top 200? If it did, it would be the album's first time in the Top 200 since October 2021.

35% Off Entire Kylie Store - Black Friday Sale
I think the items that stings the most for me is the Tension II "Limited Edition" CDs. Ordered them on 10th October, it was £40 for the 3, and I rushed to buy due to the fear of them selling out quickly. Yet now, a mere 7 weeks later, you can get the three of them for £23.40. :kink:

Tension II ● album discussion
There’s certainly Tension in this thread at the moment  I think when Padam Padam is spoken about as being a huge hit, it comes with caveats (that don’t really need to be highlighted each time). The Top 200 of Global Spotify is a very lofty glass ceiling for a technically independent artist who’s as far into her career as she is (BMG is not one of the three majors). Padam not making that chart doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a big hit though. A song doesn’t have to be truly global to fit that definition, it can be more localised & within the context of that artist’s career and the place she holds in the industry. So much stands against Kylie when it comes to streaming and charts, but against all the odds Padam managed some truly great achievements! Anyway did anyone try the Tension II? I thought the Tension II was lovely. x

I think they must have anticipated way more of a revived public interest in Kylie and Jason / Charlene and Scott, than ultimately ended up being the case. The Neighbours finale in terms of Kylie was kind of a damp squib. :( I looked back on my order and was a bit shocked to see that the cassette single was initially £9! :o Seemingly lessons were learned from that given that her subsequent cassettes (bar the Padam mixtape) have only been £2.99.

Tension II ● album discussion
Fact Checker - In my response to your post, I didn't directly say (or intend to imply) that you'd already said any of my words. The point of my post centered around you not having explained the "Tension II has been a total disaster for Kylie" statement. It was an exercise in exploring possible reasons for why Tension II could be considered as being a disaster - and then, from my perspective, disapproving each reason that I had raised as potentials. That was all from me, I wasn't attempting to put words into your mouth. I feel like you may have interpreted my post as an attack towards you, but I can tell you it genuinely wasn't intended to be read in that way. All I was aiming to do with my post is expanding on a statement you had made, and to create a conversation around "Tension II being a disaster". For me to say that I don't agree with that and to elaborate on why, and then others might have shared their thoughts to carry on what could be an interesting discussion. Your response lets me know that none of my suggested reasons are how you feel, and that's fair enough. You've now explained that you think Tension II "has got to be bleeding Kylie and her labels". Which is also fair enough, and perhaps it is. I feel like Tension II - which has been promoted and defined as a sequel album, released instead of an initially proposed reissue - is essentially a "means to an end" product. It's kept her name out there by expanding the Tension era in order to promote a huge tour. Ultimately it achieved positive headlines and an impressive chart stat. In that sense, it could be considered as a job well done for Tension II. Whether or not the companies are satisifed or disappointed with the sales of the album, we can of course only speculate. I will say that BMG have had involvement in numerous albums that have sold a fraction of Tension II though. Regarding reviews: Of course you're entitled to think that they should be ignored and that "sensible people would" (although that's a separate discussion about the validity of critical reviews). I raised it in terms of their role in how well or not an album is perceived. Bad reviews can have a knock on effect that leads to a disaster album era. The terrible reviews for Katy Perry's 143 album had a significant impact, causing headlines and viral social posts, essentially another nail in the coffin of her era so far. Tension II received generally favourable reviews - 9 positive, 3 mixed - resulting in a respectable Metacritic score of 77, one of her best to date. NME and The Independent gave the album full marks. It was just another point raised to support my view that Tension II hasn't been a total disaster. Anyway, just ending this post to stress that my initial post and this one are absolutely not personal, I'm posting them in good faith! We can agree to disagree about Tension II and that's completely ok. I was just interested in why you felt that way, but you've now said. It's all good.

Tension II ● album discussion
What makes Tension II a total disaster though - has it negatively affected her career going forward? I’d say that it hasn’t at all… - Fans got new music out of this, that we can choose to take or leave. For me it’s a positive to have got some (imo) enjoyable new songs. - Critically speaking, the album was generally well reviewed, so there’s no embarrassment there. - The album being tied in with a tour announcement (her store directing people to order albums to gain access to a tour presale) was undoubtedly a smart marketing tool. - At the end of the day, it reached #1. All the public will see if they ever check her Wikipedia is that Tension II was another #1 album, her 10th. They’re not going to care that it was out the chart quickly or that it’ll take a while for it to certify. Their perception of Kylie will not have been altered by Tension II, if anything it served to strengthen the fact that she’s highly successful. Streaming platforms would have to fully & consistently throw their support behind Kylie singles and albums in order for her to target “the general public”, and to experience more longevity in the album chart… but sadly that’s not going to happen. So I think we’ll have to get used to front-loaded sales as the new normal for Kylie albums. She’s certainly not alone in this. As an artist in her late 50s, almost 40 years into her career, on her 17th album… I just can’t see Tension II as being a disaster for her. While we can feel disappointment about its chart run, ultimately it doesn’t matter a great deal… and it could also be considerably worse than this!

Spice Girls • General Discussion
GERI Horner has been accused of derailing a lucrative Spice Girls deal. Insiders said all five were approached about a TV drama series which would land them £1million each. It is claimed talks were positive until Geri, 52, put the brakes on. A source said: “It would have seen five actresses taking on the roles of Posh, Ginger, Scary, Sporty and Baby. "The venture would have landed them all pay deals of around £1million for essentially not lifting a finger. “But as the negotiations ramped up, the others were told Geri had objected. "The plans have basically been thrown out. "They wanted to have the agreement of all of the band and without Geri it’s hard to make it happen.” Talks took place with Left Bank Pictures, the firm behind Netflix hit The Crown. But insiders said the plans fell through this summer, when Geri mentioned the possibility of working on her own TV show.
