Chart Mod

  1. Me too! Crazy that they've not done a vinyl with the original cover yet
  2. It's a shame to see so many new albums being incredibly short-lived. :( I miss when albums which weren't even all that successful could nevertheless build up a reasonable chart run before exiting. It continues to amaze me that the OCC (and the UK music industry at large) seemingly aren't at all fussed about the state of the album chart and what is represents. I mean, while there's no getting around the fact that most album pure sales plummet in week 2, at least these albums could hang around for a bit longer if the Greatest Hits/catalogue albums were downweighted (or removed entirely x) while streaming was weighted more favourably to new releases - as is the case in the singles chart. I believe that streaming sites don't do a good enough job of promoting albums, it's largely very geared towards playlists and mixes. Also, Spotify etc should strive to present themselves in a way that is more specific to the country you're from. UK Spotify is heavily influenced by the US, so it's harder for newer British (or non-US artists) to have as much impact as they could do. As you say, it's inevitable that FLO's album will be a 1 week wonder and that's a pity. I know these discussions happen regularly and nothing changes, I wish it would!
  3. Cute! I was a bit confused about it when I first saw it a few weeks ago, but since then I've learned more about the Yoto player and what its function is for parents/kids (the target market for it). Basically to reduce screen time for children and have more control over what is listened to (compared to streaming sites) and easy to use. I think it's nice if a new generation hears Spice Girls this way, with a physical product. Interestingly the track list leaves off Voodoo lol. The new artwork for this Yoto release: Interesting that they decided to go with a different picture for it. I'm nitpicking but it can be seen where graphic designer cut around the image of them, leaving a darker shade of white around them but then adding a solid white the rest of the card's artwork. Maybe it's not as noticeable on the physical card. I've turned the solid white part of the artwork into black, to make it clearer where the editing happened: Nevertheless... I like the picture they've used! Although it's from the photoshoot that is associated with Stop's artwork, this particular shot wasn't used for either CD1 or CD2. If they'd used this for the 2019/2020 Greatest Hits vinyl releases, at least it would have seemed like a "new" picture rather than being the very familiar picture from Spice Up Your Life CD1 (a choice I was never too thrilled about... to me that picture is 100% Spice Up Your Life and imo it looked lazy to reuse it for Greatest Hits). I'm not great at Photoshop but I wanted to see how this "Yoto" artwork would look as a vinyl artwork, so I had a go and made this:
  4. On 15th November, Greatest Hits had some chart action (not in the main album chart though) and it was due to the Yoto card: #90 - Official Physical Albums Chart #97 - Official Albums Sales Chart ^ It marked the first time it had been Top 100 in either chart since 20th March 2020 which is when the black vinyl was released. However the slight boost in physical sales wasn't enough for the album to re-enter the official main albums chart Top 200.
  5. Thank you for posting, I don't remember seeing that before! That would definitely have been an interesting/new approach for them at that time, to have songs offered to them rather than written from scratch (apart from Touch era, but that was pre-fame). I would love to hear it - would it have been any better than Headlines or Voodoo! I suppose in a way it was nice that the Greatest Hits was kept to Spice Girls written stuff with the original producers. Maybe that wasn't the ideal time to go with songs offered to them. A new studio album though, maybe... When a fan interviewed Melanie C in 2017, she had no recollection of this song when it was mentioned to her!
  6. Better Be Careful deserved more here! Definitely a highlight track from A Girl Like Me.
  7. I voted Yes, mainly to feel positive and believe in the power of manifestation x
  8. I wish they would share more! I don't actually have MTV so I can't watch the programmes :( So it's really reliant on if someone has the channel and happens to catch that they're airing a run down and then noting down the sales. The schedule can be seen here: https://www.mtv.co.uk/tv-schedule/mtv-music and we can see that there's an Ed Sheeran Top 20 at 10am on 27th Nov, which is possibly a repeat. If they repeat shows I'm not sure if they refresh the sales information.
  9. The Show is back in at #10 today, very brief appearance for Sarah's Version! Another movement is Something Kinda Ooooh up to 4th, and Jump down to 5th. Interesting how up and down Jump can be in their list, there was a moment a while back when it was their #1 most popular! Not sure if I've ever noticed SKO being as high as 4th before now.
  10. Finally updated this! Stats (131 albums) 20 albums stayed in the Top 10 [15.27%] // 111 albums fell out of the Top 10 [84.73%] 26 albums stayed in the Top 20 [19.85%] // 105 albums fell out of the Top 20 [80.15%] 36 albums stayed in the Top 40 [27.48%] // 95 albums fell out of the Top 40 [72.52%] 56 albums stayed in the Top 75 [42.75%] // 75 albums fell out of the Top 75 [57.25%] 62 albums stayed in the Top 100 [47.33%] // 69 albums fell out of the Top 100 [52.67%] 95 albums stayed in the Top 200 [72.52%] // 36 albums fell out of the Top 200 [27.48%] So it's still the case that more than half of this year's Top 10 charting albums fall out of the Top 100 in week 2, and over a quarter of this year's Top 10s fell straight out of the Top 200. I've edited the lists so it only includes new albums from 2024. So for instance I've excluded Chappell Roan whose album was released in 2023, even though it didn't chart until 2024 - but nevertheless I've made a note at the top of the thread that her album peaked at #1 and fell from #1 to #2. I'm also excluding reissues such as Oasis. I did keep Queen I though because it counted as a new entry. I'm not sure if I overlooked anything else in the list that had already been released or charted pre-2024, but if anyone spots anything then let me know! Or any mistakes in general.
  11. Sound of the Underground has done really well to catch up and overtake Love Machine! I looked back on this thread and discovered that Love Machine moved ahead of Sound of the Underground in May 2018, at that point they were both on 8.6m streams. The gap widened over the years - in August 2022 Love Machine was on 45.1m, well ahead of SOTU on 37.2m. Love Machine passed 50m in May 2023, SOTU did it in February 2024. In other Spotify news, I'll Stand By You moves up to 9th in their popular list, and Sarah's Version is new in 10th spot - both pushing out The Show!
  12. Oops I overlooked that! Hopefully not much longer until they’re back.

  14. I wouldn't count on this any time soon. From Manchester Evening News: When asked what was next for the band itself, H teased: "Our next milestone is our 30th anniversary, so watch this space." And we know the 30th anniversary isn't until 2027, so... I'd be surprised if they give much thought towards working on a new album until 2026, at this rate. With the musical touring in 2025 and 2026, it seems like they'll be wanting Steps focus to be on the musical, not themselves.
  15. I'm so glad that you enjoyed it so much, Herbs! I wish I was going to see this in Birmingham, but it's just not viable for me at the moment sadly. :( It's already been 2 weeks since Here and Now's opening night!
  16. Emma released music as a solo artist in the 1990s ('What I Am'), the 2000s (3 studio albums and 9 singles) and the 2010s ('I Know Him So Well', 'My Happy Place' era + 'Coming for Christmas'). We're almost half way through the 2020s but sadly Emma has yet to release any new music within this decade. Even Geri has - albeit for free and tied in with a children's book! Obviously Melanie C got in there early with her self-titled album coming out in 2020. Will we get anything from Bunton in the second half of this decade? Vote in the poll and make your prediction! Then we can come back to this thread in 2030... if any of us remember!
  17. Me too :( It's way too overpriced and it's evident that the quality will not match such prices. Before I saw the prices I thought the baubles were cute for the novelty of it, but my absolute maximum that I'd consider paying for them is £20 (and even that I would consider to be very pricey for 5 baubles). £50 is just insane.
  18. Really great work! It is a pity Girls Aloud couldn't keep things going across Europe - some minor success to begin with, but then they stopped trying. :( Reasonable early success in Australia too. I feel like it's easy to forget that Cheryl's 3 Words era was successful even outside of the UK/Ireland, and not just Fight For This Love! 3 Words (song) a Top 10 hit in Italy and Australia :cheeseblock: (Kind of random that Australia really took to 3 Words but weren't fussed about Fight for This Love).
  19. Dannii's first two albums and the 1995 sessions have disappeared from Spotify and seemingly from other platforms too. Not sure if it's a worldwide issue.
  20. Voted for Hold On To Now, but it is fantastic
  21. Midweeks Sunday - #10 Monday - #30 Tuesday - #41 (4,610) Wednesday - #54 (4,834) Thursday - unknown Friday - Not Top 100 A few weeks ago, it took approaching 5,500 sales to make the Top 100. Sadly ISBY got drowned out by streaming as the week went on. :( I think we can assume it would have made it to 5,000. Annoying/sad that Spotify etc wouldn’t be more supportive of it.
  22. 16 16,456 Wham! - Last Christmas [sCR: 32,651] 17 15,778 Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas Is You [sCR: 31,286] :drama: and we're back to Last Christmas leading the way, already! So, well done to the 37 of us who predicted that this would indeed happen: Will 'Last Christmas' overtake 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' in the coming weeks? Now the question is, will Mariah be able to get back ahead of Wham at any point this year? I can only see it happening now in her physical release week *if* they actually sell decently enough.
  23. It keeps being moved down  but at least it's there! ~ Should we even discuss the latest Christmas merch <_<
  24. Wash your MOOF out, it's nice! ~ Will never quite understand the fanbase's overall dislike of 'We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight (single version)' - for me it's a nice enough bop!! Should be well within her Top 40. :arrr:

Great! Also on Spotify Hot Hits UK, only 33rd though, but at least it’s there. Can this please become a hit by January once the Christmas songs are gone?
