Will Jesy ever be welcomed back?
I'd like to think that time will be a healer for them all, and that there'll come a point when they're emotionally ready to sit down with each other and discuss things (without the pressure of thinking of working together again, literally just for them on a personal level, who shared a massive experience together). It's down to them whether they have the capacity to take accountability, to feel forgiveness, etc.

Light Years ● album discussion
I find it curious that Parlophone have focused on steadily reissuing her albums on card gatefold CDs, without fanfare. I'm wondering if there's really much of a market for this, to have justified going to the trouble? Of course there'll be fans who are happy to buy a new variant, but if they're aiming for casual sales, will those be achieved? CDs are quite niche these days, so quietly issuing these old albums seems like an odd tactic to me. The clear elephant in the room being that they're not reissuing vinyl! Light Years is overdue a repress. It's now 6 and a half years(!) since its vinyl release. The way it was handled is a bit bizarre to look back on really - UK only, exclusive to a supermarket, on sale for basically just one day.

A*Teens - 25th Anniversary
I won't be able to go to that but I look forward to seeing recordings of it! I'm happy for them that they're embracing the nostalgia and performing again. I wonder if they'll consider new music? They all look fantastic! A*Teens at 40 years of age :cheeseblock:

Your Vinyl Collection
So far in 2024 I've bought 20 albums and 18 singles on vinyl (including some pre-orders). I've really tried in recent months to cut down on my purchases - 38 items this year so far, whereas last year it was 61 (48 albums and 13 singles). I think if I'd been more frivolous with money this year, then I could have easily bought another 15 albums at least. In some cases I decided I just don't need them, but there's still a few that I really would like to own eventually - I'm just waiting for decent price cuts. 2024 Purchases: Albums 5 Seconds of Summer - The Feeling of Falling Upwards (Live from the Royal Albert Hall) [Europe: 2x12" - Black] (2023) Ariana Grande - eternal sunshine [Worldwide: 2x12" - Red / Exclusive Cover No. 3] (2024) Charli xcx - Brat and it's completely different but also still brat [Worldwide: 3x12" - "Milky Clear"] (2024) Emma Bunton - A Girl Like Me [Europe: 12" - Pink "Baby Pink"] (2024) {First pressing of 2001 album} Gina G - Fresh! Tension vs. Tension II - song vs. song
Comparing Track 1 with Track 1, Track 2 with Track 2, etc... choose your favourite song from each pairing! Bold the track you prefer. Padam Padam vs. Lights Camera Action Hold On to Now vs. Taboo Things We Do for Love vs. Someone for Me Tension vs. Good as Gone One More Time vs. Kiss Bang Bang You Still Get Me High vs. Diamonds Hands vs. Hello Green Light vs. Dance to the Music Vegas High vs. Shoulda Left Ya 10 Out of 10 vs. Edge of Saturday Night Story vs. My Oh My Love Train vs. Midnight Ride Just Imagine vs. Dance Alone Mine: Padam Padam vs. Dance Alone 8 to Tension, 5 to Tension II Things We Do for Love vs. Someone for Me was hard for me to decide! Both highlights of their respective albums. Taboo and Good as Gone are unlucky to be going head to head with singles from Tension. Funny thing is I've heard My Oh My 4x as much as Story, due to the former being a single... but nevertheless I consider Story to be the superior track.

Tension ● album discussion
Without a doubt it'll happen no later than towards the start of 2025, but indeed, on the day that Tension was revealed to have sold 53k in its first week, I would never have believed that it would take this long to reach 100k!

Tension or Tension II
Honestly I prefer Tension II. I have to say that cohesive is one of the last words I'd consider 'Tension' as being, and I absolutely don't mean that in a negative or sassy way, it's just it's such a mixed bag of different pop sounds. Let's say, I don't think overall it particularly sounds like the natural home of 'Padam Padam' or 'Tension' (the song)!

Kylie ● UK Chart Runs & Sales
Hopefully in the not too distant future she starts picking up some silver certifications for other BMG era singles! Particularly Tension (song), that would be a nice bonus on top of the fact it went Top 20.

Tension II ● album discussion
To be fair, the US distribution problem seems to be a real thing? A US fan on Popjustice said that their copy only dispatched today, and I saw some other comments too. I guess we'll see in week 2 to what extent that affected her - if it actually manages to stay in the Billboard 200, or not. I feel like the "Kylie's biggest market is the US" comment has opened Kylie up for some ridicule, and that the person on her team who said it could have elaborated a bit more about in what sense that is the case. Obviously it's not in terms of chart positions achieved, sales etc. As discussed, it can mean that the US is where her highest percentage of streams occurs, which is feasible. Of course the UK midweek of #37 isn't nice to see, but I'm not all that shocked by it. I still believe that the fact it went to #1 is all that is going to matter in terms of Kylie's legacy, not the second week... Kylie isn't the first artist this kind of chart performance has happened to, and she won't be the last either! So it's not like this is specifically embarrassing for her. Only us chart nerds will ever really know/care about the chart run. :kink: Tension's chart run was nothing to write home about either, yet the perception of the era as a whole is one of great success. I think it's time for BMG to think outside of "week 1" though. I know all labels throw everything at week 1, but I think BMG should at least try to think about how to maintain some interest in subsequent weeks. I'm sure the fanbase can remain engaged for more than 7 days - so as suggested, a new download variant in week 2 could have been worth a try. Particularly when literally a few hundred sales, let alone a few thousand, makes a world of difference in the UK charts.

Kylie ● UK Chart Runs & Sales
550,108 was shared on 13th October, which I guess is its total from Friday 11th October? And if this new total is as of the 25th… then that’s 5,122 sales in 2 weeks, 2,561 per week on average. If that pace is maintained then it’s going to take another 18 weeks for it to go Platinum, which would be 28th February 2025. Maybe we should anticipate it happening in March if it was to slow down a little bit?

Kylie ● UK Chart Runs & Sales
Let's hope so! Kylie still releasing albums in her 60s and getting #1s would be awesome  Looking at the list of artists with the most #1 albums in the UK, here's where Kylie places: 1. 16 #1s - The Beatles (11 studio albums) =2. 14 #1s - The Rolling Stones (11 studio albums) =2. 14 #1s - Robbie Williams (11 studio albums) 4. 13 #1s - Elvis Presley (4 studio albums) =5. 12 #1s - Madonna (9 studio albums) =5. 12 #1s - Bruce Springsteen (11 studio albums) =5. 12 #1s - Taylor Swift (12 studio albums) =8. 11 #1s - David Bowie (9 studio albums) =8. 11 #1s - Eminem (10 studio albums) =8. 11 #1s - Rod Stewart (8 studio albums) =8. 11 #1s - U2 (10 studio albums) =12. 10 #1s - ABBA (6 studio albums) =12. 10 #1s - Coldplay (10 studio albums) =12. 10 #1s - Michael Jackson (5 studio albums) =12. 10 #1s - Kylie Minogue (8 studio albums) =12. 10 #1s - Queen (7 studio albums) =17. 9 #1s - Bob Dylan (9 studio albums) =17. 9 #1s - Take That (7 studio albums)

Emma Bunton - 'Free Me'
Nice early signs of decent streaming! Perhaps eventually more Free Me era stuff will push down the My Happy Place stuff in her Top 10? Would be very nice if some of her singles reappeared as well so we had B Sides and remixes available to stream again.

Tension II ● album discussion
I really don’t think this is purely what it comes down to. Regarding money, making more of it surely helps to maintain the lifestyle to which she’s accustomed, that’s one aspect of it. She obviously doesn’t need it in the ordinary person sense of the word need, but nevertheless there’ll still be a need for it in her reality. I’m sure her continuing to work in music (and other ventures) is about a lot more than just wanting success. I’m not saying that success and fame aren’t driving factors for her. However, passion for what she does, and the importance of feeling that her life has purpose, must strongly come into it!

Steps - General Discussion
Huge album artists ahead of Buzz that week - U2, Texas and Blur! Steps sold more to be #4 (77,000) than Spice Girls - Forever sold to be #2 a week later (73,000). So that was fairly unfortunate timing for Steps, and actually quite good timing for Spice Girls (even though they still got so much flack for “only” being #2, a different week would likely have resulted in a much worse outcome :o ) A shame they couldn’t keep a Top 2 streak going (well, Light Up the World completely ruined that at #32 :kink: but at least when it comes to their “proper” studio albums & major Greatest Hits releases)… 2 Step One 1 Steptacular 4 Buzz 1 Gold: Greatest Hits 1 The Ultimate Collection 2 Tears on the Dancefloor 2 What the Future Holds 2 What the Future Holds Pt. 2 1 Platinum Collection What a run! They don’t get the credit they deserve for this level of consistency. For instance, they were not selected by Radio 2 to appear in the recent British bands poll vote.

Here and Now (The Steps Musical)
Presumably yes! Though there could technically be cast changes depending on individual commitments, I suppose?

Edge of Saturday Night ● The Blessed Madonna & Kylie
I actually don’t mind it! One thing I’ll say as a positive is I feel like this version makes the spoken word part a lot easier to understand; I had no idea what Kylie was saying in the normal version until I read the lyrics. :kink: This “CD etc” version is underproduced for sure, but I have to wonder whether the normal version could be accused of being a bit overproduced and if there was maybe a happy medium to settle on that could have made it more commercial? On paper it should have been a minor hit at least… I don’t think any fan expected it to miss the Top 100 entirely.
