Buzzjack's Favourite Group
Girls Aloud and Spice Girls are my Top 2 groups! Going into this activity, I didn't imagine that they'd actually end up being the Top 2 acts in these results. It's great to see that there's still a lot of appreciation for them both! I'll keep this post short, and simply say that Girls Aloud and Spice Girls music always brings me joy. I really enjoyed this thread Gezza, thank you so much for running this activity!

I'm His, He's Mine (feat. Doechii) • 3rd Single
I feel like every single has been better than the last... I'm His, He's Mine might have been a better one to lead with rather than leaving it third.

Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat
Brat and it’s completely different but still brat I've pre-ordered the CD! I hadn't actually bought any brat formats yet (best believe I've been streaming it a lot x) but I'm glad I waited. I fear the 3LP is going to be pricey but I feel like it's going to be an essential purchase. It's also on cassette but I don't need that :kink: (it's £32.99!!)

Tension II ● album discussion
I see this said every now and then, but I counter that with: What the Future Holds Pt. 2, a brand new album, sold more copies in its first week (25,285) than Tears on the Dancefloor: Crying at the Disco Deluxe Edition, a reissue (11,136). Which suggests that fans didn't confuse the former as merely being a deluxe. So if anything, Steps gained more sales by marketing it as a new album (while still attaching it to the same era). I guess the proof will be in the pudding! If Kylie is really replicating the above "Steps method", we'll see if Tension II ends up selling considerably more in its first week than Disco: Guest List Edition did (10,409). Personally I'd be more excited at the prospect of getting an album's worth of new tracks, as opposed to a handful being added onto Tension!

Angels With Dirty Faces \ Album 2
No reason per se, they just so happen to have split the 11 tracks by 5 / 6 across the two sides, but they could have done it 6 / 5 if they'd wanted to. The vinyl also could have had more tracks on each side and a longer running time, so the vinyl could have been the 14 track UK version. However if they'd done that, it possibly would have been to detriment of sound quality though. The 11 track vinyl we're getting could sound great because of having less tracks squeezed onto it. Supposedly the optimum running time per vinyl side for great sound quality is 18 minutes, ideally. Which incidentally is how long Side A of this AWDF vinyl will be. However a lot of vinyl releases disregard this, and often push it to 25 minutes per side, or even 30 minutes... though by that point, it would have been a better idea to spread the album across two separate vinyl. I wonder if the Angels vinyl only being 11 tracks is the result of the team at the label not being overly familiar with the Sugababes catalogue? So perhaps they accessed the 11 track version from the archives, presuming it was the main version of the album - without realising that the album was released as a 14 track version here in the UK. To me, it feels like a bit of an oversight. Girls Aloud vinyl albums have included the UK bonus tracks!

Which other pop bands do you think they sounded like? (Not having a go, I'm just curious who you liken them to!) I really feel the opposite, that Girls Aloud were rather out of step from other pop groups of the time, and that this is what gave them the edge to become as successful (commercially and critically) as they were. Xenomania really threw the rule book out of the window; their partnership led to some very innovative pop music that was quite unlike anything else around in my view. The way their songs are constructed, it could be really surprising... you never quite knew what you were going to get from an original Girls Aloud song! I mean, 'Biology'... who else has a song like that! As someone who very intently followed all three groups, I think they all delivered personality/character! Sugababes were a bit "too cool for school" in their presentation, particularly during 1.0 and 2.0 eras - a bit of a moody bordering on sullen vibe, yet not unlikeably so, just in a teenager sort of way - they still came across polite and pleasant alongside that. However I don't think you could ever really pinpoint one particular Sugababe as being a loudmouth, etc. I feel like if I was to level "less distinct personalities" at any of the three girl groups, it would go to the Sugababes. Whereas with Girls Aloud, I think they were all actually quite different from each other. Not in a way that slaps you around the face like the Spice Girls, but there if you're looking more closely. Sarah was definitely the "life of the party", the one who brought the most energy to the proceedings, maybe the one you couldn't quite predict what she'd do or say next. I'd say Nicola has an energy similar to how I described the Sugababes. Cheryl can be outspoken, cheeky and charming. Kimberley, I'd probably classify as being the pleasantly sensible one. Nadine is incredibly quirky, and not just because of her accent! (Sorry, if I'm given the excuse to talk about girl groups, then I'll go on a bit :kink: Although writing this during a Top 2 reveal of girl groups, seems like as good a time as any for me to do this! )

All Saints' 1997 self-titled album is finally being released on vinyl, as part of National Album Day!- Take That - Everything Changes
The Everything Changes album is being released on zoetrope picture disc vinyl on 19th October 2024. Marketed as the 30th anniversary edition (even though it'll have been 31 years by the time this is released!) I'm disappointed... I would have preferred a normal vinyl with full artwork. This doesn't look appealing to me. The original UK vinyl release in 1993 was a picture disc too!- Angels With Dirty Faces \ Album 2
