  1. Nice that Viva Forever is on the verge of 800k! It deserves waaay more, but unfortunately it's not one of the most exposed Spice Girls songs on streaming platforms.

    The article also states that it's achieved 12.1 million streams (which is since 2014).

    Viva Forever sales updates we've had over the past 4 years:

    798,000 - 23rd July 2021

    781,519 - 13th November 2020

    769,974 - 8th May 2020

    740,000 - 24th May 2019

    729,000 - 16th November 2018

    726,000 - 1st November 2018

    708,000 - 27th July 2017

    My estimates for their sales totals as of 23rd July:

    2,053,100 - Wannabe

    1,341,800 - 2 Become 1

    1,122,900 - Say You'll Be There

    1,117,500 - Spice Up Your Life

    954,900 - Goodbye

    866,000 - Mama/Who Do You Think You Are

    798,000 - Viva Forever

    741,900 - Too Much

    661,600 - Stop

    311,400 - Holler/Let Love Lead the Way

    126,100 - Mama

    60,700 - Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)

    20,700 - Let Love Lead the Way

    Estimates for forthcoming significant sales totals / changes in the order of their best sellers, within the first half of this decade:

    August 2021 - Viva Forever - 800,000

    September 2021 - Combining the sales of Mama/Who Do You Think You Are as a Double A Side, and Mama as a separate entity, should exceed 1,000,000

    November 2021 - Wannabe - 2,100,000

    Late 2021/Early 2022 - Spice Up Your Life possibly overtaking Say You'll Be There (if their average weekly sales stay roughly the same)

    February 2022 - Stop - 700,000

    June 2022 - Too Much - 750,000

    July 2022 - Wannabe - 2,200,000

    September 2022 - Mama/Who Do You Think You Are - 900,000

    December 2022 - Mama (by itself) - 150,000

    December 2022 - Stop - 750,000

    January 2023 - Stop might overtake Too Much early this month, at which point their sales would both be approximately 756,000

    February 2023 - 2 Become 1 - 1,400,000

    March 2023 - Wannabe - 2,300,000

    May 2023 - Spice Up Your Life - 1,200,000 [2xPlatinum]

    September 2023 - Stop - 800,000

    October 2023 - Wannabe - 2,400,000 [4xPlatinum]

    February 2024 - Say You'll Be There - 1,200,000 [2xPlatinum]

    June 2024 - Wannabe - 2,500,000

    June 2024 - Mama/Who Do You Think You Are - 950,000

    June 2024 - Mama (by itself) - 175,000

    November 2024 - Stop might overtake Viva Forever towards the end of this month, their sales totals could be approaching 878,000

    By the end of the 90s, the order of best selling to worst selling singles from Spiceworld was: Spice Up Your Life / Too Much / Viva Forever and Stop. Viva Forever eventually overtook Too Much during the era of downloads. As we can see above, by the mid point of the 2020s, Stop could be their 2nd best seller from the album!

  2. I'm thinking that this thread has gone as far as it needs to now!

    The reason I created this thread is because the "Spice Girls vs. other girl groups" discussion was quite off topic where it originally was taking place, so I wanted to separate it. Now that the chat is veering away from talking about girl groups in the context of Spice Girls, and more just talking about girl groups in general, I don't think we need the thread anymore. :cool:

    To continue the girl group chats, remember to check out these forums: Girls Aloud & Sugababes + visit the Pop forum which has threads for the likes of Atomic Kitten, All Saints and The Saturdays. :heart:

  3. ^ A few white spots around Lisa's hair too! It's a bit slapdash, they're small errors but the designer really should have noticed those. In Faye's hair you still see some of the original white background.

    This is the original picture:

    Tbh I wish they weren't rigidly sticking to The Saturdays-esque artwork designs.

    Someone on Popjustice made this, and I think it looks more natural than what we got. I quite like the off-kilter red bar:

    ~~~~~
    My first listen occurred half an hour ago and ooh... this is pretty different for them! Particular parts are still going round in my head. "I wonder where you wander, wonder..." / "take me for a riiiiiiiiiiide" in particular.
    I really appreciate the 80s flavour. It being mid-tempo is a change of pace that I feel separates it from the Part 1 singles. It has quite a self-assured maturity to it! I think their vocals help it retain a Steps feel to it, despite the different soundscape - Claire's vocals are so distinctive!
    I have a feeling this will be a grower and that with time I'll love it. For now, I'm liking it a lot!
  4. Seems like we'll have to wait until 11th September to see it!
    "A small audience will witness the performances in person, however, the sets will also be available to watch on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds from September 11, with a special highlights show on Radio 2 from 7pm and 9pm the following evening.”
    That's the day after the album release, so that's well-timed for promo!
  5. Not to be a bitch but Little Mix's wax works are MILES better than the Spices. Like, they are basically pretty faithful replicas.Plus, even though a member had already gone, they still made it with Jesy included! Girl Power move!!
    Good for them :cheer:
    The video isn't working for me :cry:
    Edit 10:35 PM: I edited the post so it's a Twitter embed instead of YouTube!
  7. Karl Twigg (writer) said this about Light Up the World, back in January:
    And it’s not just the new tracks that have got Topham & Twigg excited – they’re working on a number of projects, including a Christmas song with the group in mind.
    Karl previously penned Steps’ 2012 holiday single, Light Up The World, but he insists the new tune won’t have the same “mature” sound.
    “That Christmas album, I really didn’t get it. It was a bit strange,” he reflects, revealing the pair are “mid-way through” writing a new “all-out Christmas song”.
  8. The preview has an 80s feel to it!
    It's written by Mark Topham & Karl Twigg, making the first Topham song for Steps since the Buzz era!
    Karl said this back in January, it could be about Take Me for a Ride:
    “Myself and Mark have penned three or four songs… Which is our first co-pen for about 10 years! We’ve written a new track, which we penned about three months ago now, and it is f**king amazing. It’s probably one of the best songs we’ve ever written. In fact, there’s about three that we’ve penned that are just stone-cold monster hits.”
    Despite the pair’s celebrated history with the group, Karl insists they’ve “avoided the whole nostalgia thing” on the new tracks, but described the songs as “bangers”.
    Although he was unable to confirm any further details about a possible new album from the Steps, he explains: “The band’s got to move on, but we’ve moved on quite a lot as well.
    “So anything we do for Steps in the future is not going to sound nostalgic at all. It’s going to sound groundbreaking.
    “There are parts [in the new tracks]that are very Depeche Mode for the boys to sing, so they get their own featured vocal, and each part is such a hook.
    “On this new stuff, there is no letdown at all,” he adds. “From the minute the song starts to the little outro adlibs, your attention is 100% pulled into it.
    “There’s so much going on and so much moving melodically, production-wise… It’s just fantastic!”
    Let us know what you think of the results! Are you happy with the winner? Which songs deserved more than they got?
  10. You're most welcome :wub:
    I wonder if that Pop Music Activism guy could talk to Universal about the missing GA songs? It's so counterproductive to not have them available. :(
    They were all available a few years ago, but then a bunch of singles vanished all of a sudden - though some survived the cull, randomly. I looked back at my post from October 2009, and some of the unavailable songs had the same streams counts then, so that suggests that particular songs aren't listenable anywhere in the world. I think TSOGA was taken off just before Ten, and I suppose I can see the logic in that when they had a new CD/Download to sell... but so many years have passed, it would make sense to add it back.
    I assume singles like No Good Advice and The Show don't have decent playlisting. :( None of their singles are included on All Out 00s on Spotify which is a pity. Sugababes have About You Now and Push the Button on there, and Atomic Kitten have Whole Again and The Tide Is High and Pure Shores by All Saints is there too. Feels like such an oversight to not include even one Girls Aloud song. <_<
  11. No playlisting = poor streams, that's all there is to it really. Spotify users need a song to be in their face in order to stream it. If Wannabe Demo was added to This Is Spice Girls then it would do better numbers.
    Case in point, the 2 Forever album tracks included in This Is Spice Girls vs. the 6 that aren't, last week's streams:
    8,094 - Tell Me Why
    6,660 - Right Back at Ya
    ~
    2,899 - If You Wanna Have Some Fun
    2,706 - Wasting My Time
    2,645 - Get Down with Me
    2,098 - Weekend Love
    1,811 - Time Goes By
    1,771 - Oxygen
