Elon Musk's descent into insanity
Musk showed what a vile individual he is when he called one of the divers rescuing the Thai football team trapped in a cave a paedophile.

Elon Musk's descent into insanity
You mean the Stephen Yaxley-Lennon who is in jail after admitting contempt of court?

Southport Tragedy / Subsequent racist attacks
Obeying the law is not a matter of "reading the room". The PMs of the day will have had intelligence information about the killers of MPs Jo Cos and David Amess. They kept it to themselves. There was no post-trial outcry and no howls of "cover-up". That's because there was no cover-up in any of these cases.

Southport Tragedy / Subsequent racist attacks
That's potentially the start of a slippery slope. You move from "only a few weeks short of their 18th birthday" to "only a few months" and so on. As for Prevent, do you know how many people are referred each day? Do you know how many might have had similar reasons for referral to this attacker, yet go on to lead perfectly crime-free lives? Identifying potential offenders without taking action against perfectly innocent people is not easy. If it was, there would be countries who had succeeded in doing so and we could copy their methods.

Trump: Folie à Deux (US Politics Thread)
If Trump is not happy with Starmer, that shows that Starmer must be doing a reasonable job. Someone needs to get through to one of Trump's few active brain cells that he is not the president of the UK.

David Lynch has passed away
I saw Eraserhead and had little idea what was going on  OTOH, the first series of Twin Peaks was an outstanding piece of television.

Film director David Lynch has died, so we have to have something from Twin Peaks. I would go for the brilliant theme tune.

Trump: Folie à Deux (US Politics Thread)
Nonsense. You seem to think the president can simply order prosecutions and guilty verdicts. As Trump may soon be about to find out, he can't.

The Tory culture war on truth thread (mk IV)
So why did the enquiry, commissioned by the Tories who set the terms of reference, praise Starmer? If they had evidence that he was compromised in any way, don't you think they would have made sure that the enquiry report said so?

The Tory culture war on truth thread (mk IV)
Starmer is not compromised. He was praised in the report from the enquiry that has already happened. He authorised prosecutions in these cases. He oversaw changes in the rules that made it easier to prosecute. Stop believing the Daily Mail and Elon Musk.
-
The Tory culture war on truth thread (mk IV)
Don't you think he might have been doing something else? After all, he is the PM.
-
The Tory culture war on truth thread (mk IV)
Exactly. The Tory amendment would have delayed the provisions of the government Bill until after a new enquiry had reported. That is very likely to be after the next election, meaning that the legislation would have to start again. A new enquiry would also give the government a reason to delay implementing the recommendations of the enquiry that has already happened. Of course, that is not how the Daily Mail will report it.

The Tory culture war on truth thread (mk IV)
It is time to congratulate the Tories for reaching a new low. They are tabling an amendment to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill. Among other things, the Bill provides greater protection for children who are home-schooled. This could have prevented the murder of Sara Sharif who was killed by her father after she was taken out of school. The Tories are proposing an amendment, calling for an enquiry into grooming gangs. The Tories, of course, have already had an enquiry. They said they would act on the recommendations, but failed to implement any of them. This is where the Tory move is beneath contempt. If the amendment is passed, it won't lead to an enquiry. That is because the whole Bill will fail, meaning that none of its provisions, including the enquiry, will be implemented. That means that Labour MPs will have to vote against the amendment to save the rest of the Bill. The Tories, of course, will then make political capital out of the vote, in the hope that the reasoning behind it will be ignored. Not surprisingly, Farage's mob will vote for the amendment. The Lib Dems are planning to abstain.
