Doctor Who • The Legend of Ruby Sunday
If she does get a cameo appearance, surely they would leave her out of the cast list sent out in advance to keep it as a surprise.

The UK #3 singles listening sessions - Week 18 poll
Disappointed not to see "Almost all of them" as an option for the worst "song". It was a tough session today. At least I could spend some of my time watching the football.

Serbia v England
According to British bookies. Odds are dictated in part by where the money is going. Lots of England supporters will be putting money on England to win, thereby bringing the odds down.

Serbia v England
With at least three goals in every match so far and only one team failing to score, Serbia v England must be odds on to be 0-0

EURO 2024 | General Discussion & Collation Thread
The cycling rules are ridiculous. North America has one country that could host the tournament on its own, South America has two, Africa probably none and Asia four, as long as FIFA doesn’t mind holding the tournament in autocracies such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia.. Europe has five (six when Russia are allowed back).

Serial Contestants
Two repeated episodes of Only Connect (featuring teams who had competed in earlier series) are now Chasers. One of them, Mark Labett, has been on at least one other quiz show.

I’d say the opposite. Yes, the commentator prop ably said too much about Yamal\s age, but overall he was far better than Matterface and the dreadful Tyldesley.

Premier League 2023/2024
Hürzeler may be young but he has a decent amount of experience and has just got St Pauli back in to the Bundesliga for only the third time in their history. One the first two occasions, they went straight back down which is an indication of their general level. Tony Bloom has a very good record of picking out managers. I’m. Sure his team have been keeping an eye on Hürzeler for some time.

Manifestos - General Election 2024
One of the golden rules of politics is "Under promise and over-deliver". Johnson, as is his habit, completely ignored the rules and over-promised and under delivered. That contributed to a big loss in trust in politicians. Starmer's job is to try and reverse that. Of course it is disappointing that Labour haven't promised to abolish the two child cap. However, I suspect that they are hoping wither to be able to abolish it in a few year's time, or promise to do so in their 2028/9 manifesto. The logical, albeit frustrating, thing to do is to demonstrate competence in a first term before offering something more radical in a second.

Manifestos - General Election 2024
The Lib Dems did not ditch all their manifesto in 2010. Increased personal allowance, pupil premium, pensions triple lock, all prominently featured in the manifesto, all implemented. The 2010 manifesto was clearly written in the expectation of a hung parliament, meanin g that some of it could actually be implemented. As I said above, there is no such expectation this time and the manifesto reflects that.

Manifestos - General Election 2024
The Tory manifesto is clearly one written on the knowledge that there is no chance that they will be expected to deliver it. It is purely aimed at trying to win over voters who don’t bother to look beyond the headlines. The idea that Capital Gains Tax should not be payable if a landlord sells a property to a tenant sounds quite reasonable - for about ten seconds, before you start to think of all the loopholes. The Labour manifesto is aimed at not frightening off voters. It is also a set of policies chosen so that they have a decent chance of entering the next election able to claim that they have delivered on their manifesto promises. Given the low level of trust in politicians, that is important. The Lib Dem manifesto is a bit like Liberal manifestos before the SDP came along. There are some great ideas in there, but the party won’t form a majority government and it is unlikely to be part of a coalition. However, some of the policies are aimed at opening a debate. If past experience is anything to go by, other parties will steal some of those policies and claim all the credit.

UK General Election 2024
The Tories have put an ad on social media asking whether people want to give Labour an overwhelming majority. Not only is that rather defeatist, they have compounded it by using one of the polls that shows then winning fewer seats than the Lib Dems. In other words, "If you want an effective opposition, vote Lib Dem"

UK General Election 2024
Here is the first draft of Sunak's speech to launch his manifesto, before his advisers got to work on it. "I stand before you now, in front of three slogans to tell you that a slogan is not a plan. I have a plan. I'm sticking to my plan because I have a plan, although nobody has seen it. Labour doesn't have a plan. We have costed Labour's plan, which they haven't got, and it will cost each household £2,000. We have a clear plan and we're sticking to our plan. Can I go home now?"

The UK #3 singles listening sessions
If you want an RIP song to commemorate the death of a non-musician, you couldn’t really do better than The Other Side by Public Service Broadcasting, preferably the live video from the Brixton Academy. One of the astronauts on that mission, William ASnders who too the iconic photograph of Earth, has died aged 90.

UK General Election 2024
You nay remember that, around two weeks ago, someone called Rishi Sunak was accusing Keir Starmer of cowardice for not agreeing to do a head-to-head debate in every week of the campaign. I wonder if the two Rishi Sunaks are related
