Congratulations to Enya, presumably our most certified artist of the Loxian language One presumes Carr'e Underwood's certification is as much the benefit of American-focused streaming platforms plonking her on playlists as anything else. Shame she's a little bit evil.

How long has the TV airplay chart been in that state? Definitely time to retire that one

The Arcade Fire cert makes zero sense It's only their third ever single certification, and the first from the Funeral album. A random album track really got there before Rebellion or Wake Up? It's Spotify counts are the second lowest of the entire album (10m vs Rebellion's 125m) I call mistake

I would love Remember and What I Know to appear Both objectively flimsy and throwaway, but they also couldn't sound more warm and 90's if they tried. ALBUM RANK 01. Talk On Corners 02. Forgiven Not Forgotten 03. White Light 04. In Blue - not bad in itself, but definitely the record that I think allowed people to mistake them for a shallow and manufactured pop band 05. Borrowed Heaven - some nice standout moments, but ultimately suffers for their recycling the same backing track for too many of the songs. Humdrum / Even If / Confidence For Quiet all bleed into one. 06. Home 07. Jupiter Calling - I've only kept two tracks on rotation (The Sun And The Moon is genuinely fab and deserves to be on a better album)

Well the O2 concert was fab (much more confident than their last tour), and some very pleasant surprises in the set list. The Closer / Don't Say You Love Me / Little Wing segment absolutely a highlight. The stripped down fake out on Summer Sunshine making it feel less like a silly ditty. I Never Loved You Anyway being a less likely crowd singalong. And although it will probably have annoyed some diehards, picking the meatier In Blue over the Unplugged version of Radio made a lot more sense in an arena context. Andrea's voice is obviously a little more worn these days, and although it did seem to mean she skipped a few lines here and there, it actually added a raw authenticity to some of their more wrought tracks (What Can I Do, Don't Say You Love Me, Give Me A Reason). Best moment absolutely the trolling with the encore. "LOL of course they'll be back to do Breathless" "Here we go London...MY LAGAN LOVE" *Hundreds of angrily muttering middle aged people go for a "sensible early exit" only to miss actual Breathless 5 minutes later*
  7. The idea that Now! will flog more CDs to Tesco shoppers if they included the latest Skepta #74 hit instead of Buble or Snow Patrol

Yeah that kind of confirms it. No way has Thinking Of You pulled more sales than MmmBop in the digital era. O-Town is maybe more believable. It was a bigger hit in the US than it was even over here, so it's not implausible that the UK is a pretty small fraction of those 108m streams.

The Hanson platinum cert feels off. It wouldn't have sold much on its original 1998 release (a blink-and-miss-it #23 appearance). It's Spotify and YouTube stats aren't significant at all (2.5m and 1m worlwide). There's no reason its downloads would be better. I'd guess someone has muddled up the MmmBop streams instead.

It's a shame because really I don't think Toadie's character has stood a chance in the Amazon era. He's been given nothing to do but either cry or be a love rat. Anyone new to the show would never have guessed that once upon a time Toadie was one of the lightest happy-go-lucky characters on the show. The Terese pairing never had any mileage. All of their romance seemingly happened offscreen in the time warp, so all we've actually seen is Toadie and Terese making each other miserable since. And it doesn't help at all that the show drops anvils every single episode that Terese is destined for Paul. Maybe they'd have had some scope to send Toadie back to Melanie had they not wrecked any audience goodwill left for that pairing with the cheating storyline. I wonder if there are other factors at play. We're presumably coming up to renewal discussions; have Amazon demanded a budget cut? Most of the newer recruits (Haz aside) have been seemingly well-received, so perhaps they're feeling more confident in starting to let go of the "Big Four".

Modjo appear to have been certified platinum twice, but with different record labels accredited. So I'd assume its actually done 1.2m minimum.

What a fabulous lot of 90's classics. Tbh I'm surprised Linger and Tubthumping wasn't already there. But I'm pleasantly surprised people are still listening to Runaway and Café Del Mar in 2024.
