    the problem may be coming to an end, the Jersey government have given notice to all online stores that don't have a local connection that they will no longer be able to trade. I think it could be from as soon as November. Guernsey is still allowing it, but may follow suit. in any case the British Government are looking at closing the loophole.

     

    Theoretically, nothing shipped from the Channel Island should count, they are not part of the UK nor part of the European Union, which is what the attraction is. It is the same as buying a record from Gibraltar, no-one would expect a sale from there to count in the charts. That said, some of the online stores shipping from there do seem to be part of the panel of chart return online stores, but the OCc are very vague these days abouit which online stores count.

     

    Anycase, why not support your local retailer and buy the record from your local shop? They aren't pulling a tax fiddle and making money at the expense of the British taxpayer!

    I don't agree with Peek-A-Boo being the Banshees finest moment, though it is a very good song. To me the Banshees were in their prime in 1980 and 1981, which culminated in "Spellbound", one of my favourite songs of all time and still glorious to listen to even now. But I agree with Peek-A-Boo heralding a change of direction. I had lost interest in the Banshees from "Dear Prudence" except for "Swimming Horses" and by 1987 had more or less given up on them. Then they came back in style...

    good guess about it being from the time of Abba - the song was at #2 (behind Bohemian Rahpsody, as said above) for 2 weeks and both of those weeks it was just ahead of Mamma Mia by Abba.

     

    I found it a bit annoying, mainly because of the way the guy pronounces "champagne"! Plus it was severely overplayed on radio. Though the song wasn't as annoying as "Girls, Girls, Girls" That too was used in an advert, a few years ago.

    Soundscan seem to be having a bad week: there was some data missing from the album chart (sales data from the Best Buy chain was missing). That has now been rectified and the Soundscan chart has been ran again. Billboard magazine has printed the now incorrect chart, but this is now the official album chart.     The JoJo situation is bizarre - iTunes had her single "Too Little/Too Late" go on sale on September 13th but last week at some point, it became only available for sale as an "album" that includes Too Little, Too Late as well as a 2:00 second track that is basically a preview of 3 other songs. This "album" is still the price of a regular song ($.99). I think this little experiment has confused people because the song has tumbled down the iTunes top ten inexplicably even as it gains popularity. Also perhaps this format is against Billboard rules and it appears at #7 only on airplay? I'm not sure.

     

    I love how downloads are now included in Billboard but there are definitely still some kinks to work out in the system...

    2005 and 2006 are probably somewhere on the message boards, and I don't have much at all from before 2000, and nothing at all on computer.

     

    Does anyone have any information on what happened at the Chart Supervisory Committee meeting?

    There's nothing been posted anywhere about it, though the meeting was reported in the current Music Week as being due to take place yesterday rather than Monday. Perhaps we might hear something in the next day or two...

     

    The Chart Supervisory Committee (CSC) - the people who actually draw up the chart rules for the OCC to enforce - are meeting today (Monday 25) with the chart rules top of their agenda. This meeting should see some discussion about the inclusion of all downloads from January, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was some sort of immediate announcement about rules about deleted singles.

     

    If the rule is gonna change sooner rather than later, they may as well change it with immediate effect... the next meeting of the CSC isn't scheduled until November 21, and the new rules will need to be agreed by then.
