Yeah physicals especially. When I compare it to the numbers Stormzy and Dave got its quite a bit lower. Seems he doesn't have that same core fanbase Dave had or captured the general public quite like Stormzy did.

Did anyone else think Central Cee would have sold more?
  3. Split Decision EP is out now
  4. Think its limited to 10 plays per user
  5. Probably because they know the OCC will change the rules if they do that
  6. I don't get why some on this forum don't like streaming in terms of its importance for albums. We live in a world where the vast bast majority of people listen to music through streaming as its more cost effective. Buying a physical album is largely done as a collectors item for hardcore fans - and those fans will still mostly to the album via streaming anyway as access to physical CD palyers is pretty difficult and people arent bothered to burn a CD to an mp3 when you can just stream and save memory on your phone/computer. Also streaming is the purest way we have of knowing what people are listening to. Physical sales are completrly manupulared by multibuys. Playlist plays don't impact album sales much as the biggest songs are downweighted. Solutions to Greatest Hits albums have been presented in this thread and with a bit of tweaking would work. Situations where the number one album drops out of the top 100 are because in those cases the physical sales have more correlation with people actually listening to the album and are more about supporting someone from your hometown. The Lottery Winners for example got number 1 with 200 streaming 'sales' which is ridiculous and means the number 1 spot was meaningless that week. Could someone explain to me where I might be going wrong with this, as for me streaming should be even more heavily weighted as that's how people listen to music. *Also as a side note the whole thing of converting streams into sales is outdated now. The primary way of listening to music is streams so really sales should be converted to streams

Thats a big jump from Potter Payper - also a massive drop in sales form Ed Sheeran. I wonder if Potter tries to do a massive promo for number 1 even though its extremely unlikely.

Who do we think the real contenders for number 1 album are this week?

What are the expectations for number one this week? Ed Sheedan again?
  10. How will we find out?

    Really like this album

Oh yh defo agree that compilations and 'Best of shouldn't be in the chart and shouldn't be able to add more than 1 song from a previous album. Why doesn't the OCC add these rules as they seem like common sense to me? Is there something I'm missing out on

I think the albums chart is pretty solid when looking at streams. Most people consume music through streaming now and the album chart can't be manipulated through playlists. And even for singles I think the impact of playlists can be overstated. It definitely makes the song more discoverable but I've seen many playlisted songs that don't do much in the charts

Cases like this make me think charts should be more biased towards streams. What does number 1 mean when there's hardly any interest in it in the 2nd week after release

Nines is doing very well , let's see if he holds on to number 2

Yeah I agree that there is nothing wrong with it. What it doesn't do though is reflect what the most listened/consumed album is. This is also the problem with putting together streams and album sales. Streams show what people are listening to whereas sales is more about new buyers/listeners. Pease people correct me if I'm wrong here

That's what I find so odd about this too. And it's not like they are an older act where most there fans will be people that don't have streaming subscriptions. They are a relatively recent band, and I'd expect that there fans use streaming apps. There social media presence is also comparatively small compared to the competition so I'm wondering how, even with their strong local fanbase, they were able to mobilise people to buy 16k+ copies of their album.

Isn't that just the Wednesday update that was posted here yesterday.

The Lottery 15k physical, 130 streaming and 700 digital. I would guess that with that type of sales distribution they might not be in the top 100 next week. But yes looks like The Lottery have got it in the bag. I'm surprised that Nines hasn't even sold 1000 physicals. Do we often see sales distributions that heavily skewed to physicals?
  22. Streaming is good for artists in terms of long term income. People will often go back to listen to music they love and now going back to the music means a paid stream rather than replaying the CD you bought ages ago. This is offset a bit by the sheer amount of music that is released now though

    Thank you both :)

What do the stars mean next to the albums? And if its missing streams what time period would that cover?

They are going all out for number 1 in a way we aren't seeing from the other artists this week. Nines hasn't even done a pop up signing for example. I do wonder if The Lottery have exhausted there sales now though as they are doing very poorly with streams and I would expect that everyone that would buy a physical has done so by now
