  1. haha true! and also true that the single sounds like a timbaland cast off. as for bedtime stories, that album was character-free, the producers mis-cast but yes, admittedly Secret might have tempted you in. 4 Minutes by contrast makes you suspect that her skills as an actress/director have finally out-smartened her musical output :) (who would have thought) i doubt it will go past number 4 actually.
  2. You have a point there. I don't particularly dislike Wow. whilst not going anywhere, nor pointing towards any direction in her career, it is fairly enjoyable. probably a homage to Kylie's early years. whatever, it retains that kind of innocence that, say, someone like madonna has become totally incapable of. i don't think that physicals will help it go that much higher though. and, after almost 10 weeks already in the charts, personally i would rather move on to single number three.
  3. The progressive diluting of the line up is also a major factor. it recalls the classic one-too-many-sequels film trajectory, what with all the interesting characters being replaced by more and more washed out wannabies. talking about denial...the video for About You Now said it all about what the people at Island have decided Sugabes now officially stand for. a long advert for Bumble and Bumble with a catchy tune behind it. so much for edginess.
  4. spot on, bossa. it is definitely three hours better spent fishing for new music around. i NEVER tune in for the chart show, but i regularly scan through this chart thread every sunday evening. it's a much more interesting format than anything the BBC can ever come up with and it surely makes the prospect of the top40 bearable...actually, quite fun to read. big cheers to everyone here for that :) alas, it will be interesting to see how the public's attitude towards download is going to develop in the next months.
  5. Agree with Octy to a certain extent. both the entry and peak position of a song are no longer predictable. this surely twists an artist's chart run in an interesting way. just one thought, what about westlife not releasing the once canonic 4 singles off an album for fear of ruining their chart run? whatever, it does not overcome the fact that activity inside the top 40 has become painstakingly stale. having said that, at this stage i too would love nickelback to claim the top spot.
  6. SINGLE OF THE WEEK I WAS A CUB SCOUT - PINK SQUARES the next Hot Chip...in Dazed and Confused jargon. RIHANNA DON'T STOP THE MUSIC the best celebration of Michael jackson's mighty Thriller. compare this to the misery bound This Girl Is Mine and be thankful. MARK BROWN -THE JOURNEY CONTINUES i don't know, the faux opera hook reminds me of certain early 00's trance which one would rightly expect to exist only in eurovision territory. frankly i can't bring myself to accept the involvement of sarah cracknell in this turd of a tune.
  7. i think that it would have been quite something if he had praised the sexy wonderfulness of chubby lads. as it is, this should be deemed pop dishonesty incarnate
  8. at least she makes a more inspired kate bush impersonator than Tori. especially in the superb last three numbers. and of course opener don't give it up is heavenly. unfortunately everything happening inbetween is so godawfully generic it is hard to believe these songs were written by the same people, for the same album :( sorry i find the overall result really uneven and profoundly disappointing. really hope she delivers the goods she is so obviously capable of on the next one

funny how State of Mind, Come and get it and Neon Nights all sank the careers of everyone involved. Kylie could have pulled it, NOT. just look at the way Body Language has underperformed.
  10. agreed. nice album track but Don't stop the Music is the real banger. I find the Blue Monday sample totally flat and uninventive. Kylie did it better (and first).
  11. I still think they sound like an arty wedding band :) like their new single though.
