Iz ranks the 2010 #1s
'Written In The Stars' I like, possibly even more than Tinie's signature hit to come - the chorus elevates it, especially when the guitar echoes Eric's vocal line later on. For all the questionable lyrical premise, I do still enjoy 'She's So Lovely' and some of the soundalike hits Scouting For Girls had from their self-titled album, but their comeback felt too plodding while still a bit lumpen lyrically for me. It still felt like a surprise #1 as they didn't strike me as much of a fanbase act, though I'm not sure I'd think of it as any more rock than Coldplay's 'Paradise' which I'd rather hold up as a last hurrah for guitar-grounded music as a chart topping force. "We're gonna have a real good tiiime!" - yeah I don't have the nostalgia factor for 2010 and possibly preferred the 2005 hitmaking variety of Roll Deep, but can certainly see the appeal here. I suppose 'Break Your Heart' was a similarly surprising 3-week #1 in 2009.

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1993
Thanks Gezza for running all these threads to complete the 80s & 90s with the most accurate available sales! I haven't commented as much on the last couple as I remember doing so on the original TOTP-repeat-adjacent threads for these years, but 'Everybody Hurts' is still my favourite song of the 90s, and all these Eurodance hits are a fab time capsule for when I first took an interest in the charts. The last three from January 1994 were the first weeks I listened to the Top 40 show, and although it's not what I was into at the time, RHCP's first Top 10 hit with 'Give It Away' is a fine note to end this catch-up on.

Have their been any Egypt-born artists with Sanremo / Melodifestivalen entries that might tempt someone into the final vacant spot?

Just realised Brazil-Morocco is the first match for both teams on Saturday! Pitbull predicted it all those years ago (or was talking about 1998)

Julian rates every Top 40 hit: the 1980s edition
It was Addy who sent 'To France' to BJSC - I wasn't too familiar with it before, but its melody builds really nicely and now I actually prefer it to 'Moonlight Shadow'. My favourite of that section is 'I.O.U.', especially the quirky use of samples midway through. The first batch on this page has about the most highlights I've seen in any of these - my favourites are 'The First Picture Of You' (another BJSC entry, although I already knew and liked it), 'The Walk', 'Never Stop' (both slight electronic pivots from those bands) and 'Get Down Saturday Night' (which I prefer to the 00s hits which sample them), with several well-known others, and 'After A Fashion' which was a good discovery as a recent session closer. 'Everything Counts' is one of the very best songs of the year for me, and a defining anthem for Depeche Mode who had really hit their stride as a trio. 'The Crown' is my next favourite in another very strong batch, an accessible rap with a cameo vocal from Stevie Wonder. The next batch doesn't hit quite the same heights for me, although 'Tour De France' is still great as expected from Kraftwerk, and 'Don't Cry' I thought another good discovery from the sessions. 'Confusion' is a big highlight of the latest batch though - New Order rarely missed at this point, and like 'I.O.U.' it's another Arthur Baker production that sounds ahead of its time. (RIP Peabo Bryson)

Supermode again. 'Never Miss A Beat' is my second favourite here (behind the ancient one) - "What do you want for tea? / I want crisps" remains iconic.

Fave Bond single of 21st Century?
Lana's 'First Light' >> all of these, but 'Skyfall' doesn't sound too far out of place for Adele circa 21 and 25, so voted for that.

Iz ranks the 2010 #1s
'Forget You' (which is how I know the song, I've heard the explicit version maybe twice) is fun and deserves to be among the #1s of the year - the Xbox / Atari line is genius and Cee Lo's vocals throughout really sell it. I actually found 'Bright Lights, Bigger City' started to grate more over its shorter chart run, but 'It's OK' I liked. Glad to see 'We No Speak Americano' in the top 10, such a fun one of a kind #1 (further immortalised by The Inbetweeners Movie). I wouldn't get massively into electro-swing as a genre, although Caro Emerald's album the same year is among my favourites of the decade. Diana Vickers had some of the most promising contestant performances on The X Factor, but I'm afraid I found 'Once' a bit underwhelming and it felt like her short chart career didn't live up to her potential. Although I was under the impression 'My Wicked Heart' had unintentional similarities to 'Under The Bridge' (following which the songwriting credits may have been adjusted, albeit I haven't tracked the story) rather than a planned interpolation of it.

DaTilt ranks the #1's of 1994
Great top 2 - I really liked 'The Real Thing' at the time, and although it's dropped off my radar over time, it's held up really well on the times I have relistened to it, the blissful dance production and soulful vocals. 'Let Me Be Your Fantasy' is a brilliant one to top this list which I still listen to regularly, and a fine exponent of where dance was in the mid-90s - it would be #2 for me behind only Whigfield, with Tony Di Bart and East 17 taking #3 and #4. Thanks for the countdown Till!
