  1. Also voted for Sigma, not the strongest week overall for me, but I like the throwbacks here
  2. 'Stand By me' is my only big favourite to go Top 10 since I last commented, though I liked 'Stay' a lot back then. I couldn't stand 'Spice Up Your Life' at the time - it probably felt like they were selling mainly off hype and being so omnipresent, and I thought the song was a bit of a mess - although looking at it now it's fantastic they pushed something as quirky for their second album (rather than, say, a clone of 'Say You'll be There' or something equally safe). I do still prefer 'Barbie Girl' though... Below the top 20, older songs issued as singles to promote greatest hits gave a couple of bands their highest charting singles over these last few weeks - Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love reached #21, and an even bigger future favourite of mine made #23:
  3. +1 for 'Spider Pig' if it were an option! (I also like 'Wellerman' about as much as some of my votes, but still a long way behind The White Stripes)
  4. As I mentioned earlier in this thread when the previous Idlewild song came up, I like 'American English' even more, and it ended up my favourite song of 2002 and probably the decade up to this point - I can't really tell you what it means ('cause you already know), but it sounds like R.E.M. and a few other of my favourite bands in one. 'By The Way' is my other favourite on this page - I had the forthcoming album on heavy rotation for the following year, and although this frenetic title track didn't quite make my top 10 of the year and there are a couple of album tracks I prefer, it was thrilling to see RHCP have a huge hit after enjoying the Californication era so much without it producing any Top 10 singles. Funny to notice (as at the time) the Nelly and Athlete songs both having a chorus line of "it's getting hot in here"!
  5. Nice recap video - had a quick listen through and it feels like we've gravitated more towards dream-pop! Look forward to listening in full. I'm not around next Sunday (or this), so would prefer to have the listenthrough on Monday if possible.
  6. Teddy Swims - Bad Dreams now becomes the first song ever to have had 5 runs in the Top 10 within the same chart run! [15-8-6-12-22-22-74-x-] 7-9-9-11-9-11-15-14-16-10-9-11-9-11-13-9... Sure, the 1985, 2012 and 2022 runs all count!
  7. Wondering how many extra weeks that tiny increase will have brought it - 10 or more wouldn't surprise me. Disturbed prayer circle once again - although it has now amassed a new landmark of 52 chart weeks from the same spell on SCR.
  8. 'Fell In Love With A Girl' leagues ahead of the rest - also voted for 'Pain', 'Highly Evolved', 'United States Of Whatever' and... 'Thank You Baked Potato'
  9. I had no idea about 'Ferry Cross The Mersey' being pushed back a week to give 'Hand On Your Heart' another chance at #1 - that's quite shocking given the cause of the former. Kylie racking up the #2 debuts (three now if you count 'Especially For You'), I'm glad 'Eternal Flame' had a nice run at #1 though.
  10. Arctics, what a time when they could enter at #1.
  11. I wouldn't count on it - Spotify being down should mean the market dropped as a whole.
  12. Brenda Lee - Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree
  13. Two covers that went Top 40, hurrah! Feel like I should give Dancing DJs credit for coming up with the first of these as they're quite similar in premise, but I think the DHT one works better.
  14. Also switching to 'Killer', can't see a reason to go back to this version when the original still exists
  15. Would prefer SF1 tonight, but if it's SF2 I'll join anyway and the other semi if possible whenever it happens. Probably won't be able to join the final listenthrough as I'll likely be away with just enough time to vote after the semi results.
  16. 'American Idiot', can't believe it was over 20 years ago and yet just as relevant today (sadly), and what an album it turned out to be.
  17. BJSC 174 MØ - Keep Møving Recycling a former BJSC artist for a third contest in a row, although her previous appearances in 2012/13 predated her chart success, MØ is also the first artist I've sent to have had a UK #1 (although INXS had a US #1 and UK #2) - that was all a while ago, this is musically and lyrically the energy I need right now... with an ø in the title
  18. After a first medal from Bronzil last time out, Bøtanikkä clearly want more - that song has been top of my personal chart for the last 5 weeks!! I might have considered it myself but thought it a bit soon after the last Debbii one, my loss I guess - it is a fantastic pop tune and will surely be one of the favourites to win. I also charted the Aeroche and Macromia entries and recognise many others. Multiple SF1 appearances in the same year for the first time already (either side of an AQ too), the SF2 alliance is officially over. Would be happy with a Semi 1 listenthrough tomorrow!
  19. Did this not happen then: https://www.buzzjack.com/forums/topic/219277-unknown-pleasures-xxvii-%E2%80%A2-results/page/9/ wish someone had told me as I'd have entered that song in BJSC164 instead of the one by the same artist which ended up 29th... Sent something here anyhoo.
  20. My two favourites from the last batch and indeed all those on the last page scored an average of 3.5 Although it's not my absolute favourite from The Libertines (that comes in 2003), 'What A Waster' is such a blast with the demonically loud guitar yet almost effortless vocals, and Scooter's take on 'The Logical Song' is so off the wall it's fun in its own world.
  21. I was thinking the same thing earlier - even at #14, 'Azizam' is the highest song on Spotify to be released in the last two months Whereas the Amazon chart I can see has three such songs in the top 10, albeit 'Steve's Lava Chicken' is one of them as that appears at #10 for me ('Azizam' and 'The Giver' are the others).
  22. Also starting with 'Tell Me', it's not exactly memorable
  23. Rage Against The Machine. What a moment this was, at the height of X Factor domination and when the Christmas #1 really meant something too.
  24. 'I Beg Your Pardon' is great - I discovered it before 'Rose Garden' and really like that too. The Reynolds Girls' disappearance is a little disturbing - I vaguely remember the song from the time.
  25. Billie Eilish - BIRDS OF A FEATHER Kendrick Lamar - tv off (feat. Lefty Gunplay) Tommy Richman - MILLION DOLLAR BABY If there's time, I'd suggest Gang Of Four - Damaged Goods as an RIP for their bassist Dave Allen
