  1. New at #17 that week was the biggest hit for Teenage Fanclub and one of my favourites by them too: Also just spotted there was a 'Spice Girls Medley' by Unlimited Beat which made the Top 100 the previous week (and #84 a fortnight later) - the Spice equivalent of No Way Sis?
  2. Always interesting to find out when singles which entered at #1 increased in sales week on week, even if they happen to be for Puff Daddy. Cool to see that Ultra Naté had such consistent sales, 40-45k for five weeks! The hype for the Oasis single was huge as one might imagine, but more ridiculous were the lengths taken to guard it in case it got leaked or bootlegged - perhaps it was all part of the hype machine too, but it sure set them up for a backlash if it didn't live up to expectations...
  3. Weezer (10 years 3 months): Undone - The Sweater Song (#35, Feb 1995) -> Beverly Hills (#9, May 2005)
  4. Decent top 3 - switching to Safri Duo
  5. I didn't know of the Weezer version so gave it a listen - it's OK, but I prefer 'It's My Life' out of the originals and No Doubt's cover is pretty faithful, so that.
  6. Incidentally the Graham Parker one is called 'The Pink Parker EP' - I was hoping it would be a version of the Pink Panther theme by Mancini, or better still this one:
  7. The Flaming Lips is my favourite, especially the only-in-America rhyming couplet "She's gotta be strong to fight them / So she's taking lots of vitamins". Also voted for The Psychedelic Furs and Fuzzbox.

A 9th week at a #2 peak for 'APT.' breaks the (still official) record of 8 weeks held by Frank Chacksfield since 1953 and matched by 'These Days' in the relatively early ACR days of 2018. Wonder if 'Die With A Smile' can get a new peak there next...
  9. It may take time to get used to the new symbols for polls and locked threads, as open polls aren't as easy to spot as the old site. I guess it's not as easy to move the recently closed threads to the archive either so that possibly isn't helping. (Voted for S Club 8 here again btw)
  10. 'Don't Dream It's Over' was hoping it would get a new UK chart peak last year, but great to see it back nonetheless. Crowded House's new songs were a bit hit and miss for me too, but I liked a few.
  11. My favourites since I last commented: 86. Ariana Grande - “we can't be friends (wait for your love)” 107. Chappell Roan - "HOT TO GO!" 108. JADE - “Angel Of My Dreams” 136. Everything Everything - “The End of the Contender” 140. Noah Kahan - “Stick Season” 192. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - "Murder on the Dancefloor"
  12. Didn't know the Milk Inc. one - I see it peaked at #86, but I quite liked their two Top 10 hits from 2002 (neither of which Radio 1 playlisted btw), and don't mind this cover either on first listen, so easily that ahead of A1 for me.
  13. I followed the R1 playlists in the early 2000s - of those mentioned in the thread, 'I'm Outta Love' wasn't playlisted (nor were any of Anastacia's subsequent hits), but 'Whenever, Wherever' was, albeit only C-list iirc. A few others that weren't, some less surprising than others: Baha Men - Who Let The Dogs Out? [and more obviously Bob The Builder, Cheeky Girls...] Bon Jovi - It's My Life Cascada - Everytime We Touch [at least early on] Santana feat. Rob Thomas - Smooth Scooter - The Logical Song The Calling - Wherever You Will Go, I can't remember 100% if it didn't or just got C-listed - they were quicker to playlist the follow-up so perhaps they realised they missed out there, similar to Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag only getting C-list but then 'A Little Respect' got B-listed and 'Leroy' A-listed before they went back into obscurity.
  14. Confirmed, hope it can qualify by one means or another!
  15. 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' the very same week that Radiohead's OK Computer entered at #1, a sure sign that British guitar music was moving to a different place post-Britpop. Of course it's become pretty hard to escape even now, and the whole royalties saga was dispiriting to follow for a long time, but it sounded exciting at the time. 'Nothing Lasts Forever' I liked a lot too, although having become acquainted with much of their back catalogue many years later, it wouldn't be near my top 10 Echo & The Bunnymen songs now.
  16. As well as 'Pink Pony Club', 'APT.' less than 15k away from grabbing a day at #1! Route 94 - My Love (the 2nd of Jess Glynne's 7 #1s) enters the top 200 for the first time post-2016
  17. Best: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah Rihanna - Umbrella (feat. JAY-Z) Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls Shakira - Hips Don't Lie (feat. Wyclef Jean) Worst: Chris Brown - Kiss Kiss (feat. T-Pain) Rihanna - Take A Bow Taylor Hicks - Do I Make You Proud
  18. Great to see a quick turnaround! After considering going very niche in the hope of an AQ, I decided now's the time for another of my potentials.
  19. B.o.B - Airplanes (feat. Hayley Williams) Lady A(ntebellum) - Need You Now Lady Gaga - Bad Romance Do you still have the Week 21 tracklist btw?
  20. Agree, I don't quite get the extreme hate for it - maybe as I'm fairly indifferent to most of her other singles, it doesn't feel such an outlier to me. Voted BBMak anyway.
  21. Switched to Daniel, would be a pretty good top 3 after that
