'Airplanes' is the only of this Top 10 I'd choose to put on today. 'Love The Way You Lie' and 'We Speak No Americano' are good but maybe got played out. 'Pack Up' is fine but I preferred 'Skinny Genes' (which got a re-release with a bigger budget video after this but it wasn't enough for a return to the Top 40). 'In My System' is a Top 10 hit I have no recollection of whatsoever - there were maybe a handful of those each year in the peak download era.

3.8% down from Fri-Wed last week to this week. A decline this week looks very likely, it's whether it was bigger than the market, and whether last week's was too (which didn't look clear cut).

Lots revealed since I last commented, but as expected plenty more of my faves are starting to pop up now we're in the top half, including my top score! I knew and loved 'A-Punk' for years before I ever saw an episode of The Inbetweeners (it features in barely a minute of it, if that?) so I don't have that association. Catchy tune, cute instrumentation, cryptic lyrics and such energy, it never gets old. Vampire Weekend have been occasionally hit and miss for me since, but they did bring my favourite song of the year for a second time last year with the very different 'Capricorn'. 'Forever Young' is the other to drop out from my top 10 (I entered it into a contest here and it came 11th, I may have mentioned that before, it has since more than doubled its streams and has surely shaken off the cover version associations by now), a stirring contemplation of youth and mortality that helps me to reflect on what I've experienced as one day it will all be gone. I do wonder how 'Redemption Song' would have done here if it had been given its own chance however, that is equally timeless.

'Don't Stop Movin'' and 'Touch Me' were my 6th & 3rd favourite #1s of 2001 at the time, and I'd go with that now, if not have them higher - the latter especially, a gorgeous atmospheric house hit, and a great use of Spandau Ballet's 'Chant No. 1'. That's all my favourites out now!

Switching to Britney

It's the final I wanted and both songs are excellent, but my vote is with 'Run'

Though it had been up on the same day last week on each of Fri-Sun. However with today factored in, it's gone from an average of 1.5% up to 1.5% down, so ACR is looking more likely again.

Must be rare for an album to top this list earlier in the year and leave the top 100 so soon.

'Tiny Dancer' is another road trip staple of mine, my favourite Elton song and the second of my top 10 to go. 'Gimme Shelter' is one of the best Stones songs. Absolutely agree and was going to say much of the same! Most of my favourites of theirs are from the following album, Doolittle, but it's fantastic that one of their songs has struck such a chord this century, especially as they had so little chart success as a band.

'Nice To Meet You' finally gone this time! 'Slide Away' must have been on DCL-3 - it's now starred out behind 'Wonderwall' on ACR. 'Cigarettes & Alcohol' (although not in Friday's chart) I think is at the same status as 'Don't Look Back In Anger' i.e. DCL-1 as of Friday. Any other Oasis songs look to have missed their chance of Top 40 (either back on ACR or far too low), so 'Champagne Supernova' will have to wait for the next tour!

'Whole Again' was my 8th favourite #1 of 2001 at the time, and I'd rank it higher today. An assured performance from the group in either line-up (Kerry's middle 8 shades it for me), it's a really good song too and it was great that OMD's Andy McCluskey got a writing credit on a #1. It was my #19 tba on page 4 - only #12 & #17 remain from it now. One of the other three really should have been in my list but it came towards the end of the year and I took a while to be sold after being kinda lukewarm on their previous #1. Another isn't a huge fave of mine but I appreciate it's well loved. That leaves one more which I was convinced must be already out, but it seems not...

Switching to 'Pieces Of Me', a victim of 10 new entries in the Top 13 on its second week.

I think Zach / KoL get my vote here, but need to listen to Ethel's album in full (and Wolf Alice's in a couple of weeks).

I actually lost my bottom 6 before the top 40, but my +7 will probably be here for a while. Of today's losses 'Wish You Were Here' should be much higher, 'Ocean Drive' won the "casualties of streaming" rate hosted by Dan in 2019 (where it finished a long way ahead of some songs still in this rate) so is perhaps something of a surprise early exit, and I'd never noticed the 'Morning Glory' / 'The One I Love' similarity before but it sounds obvious now!

The last two tracks pulled out the stops for me - Tom Odell edged it ahead of Zach / KoL

Enjoyed a few of these but probably wouldn't return to them often - 'Keep Me High' got my vote. +1 for DJ HEARTSTRING in spirit
