really? By the end of 2001, it was clear all solo projects were kind of dead in the water including Melanie's... There was a huge anti-Spice sentiment in both the industry and the press, and whilst Melanie did tour a lot, it seemed like she didnt really manage to retain her audience beyond her first album because that audience was mainly going to see her because she was a Spice Girl... Sure she managed to also get some audience of her own, but the core of it is Spice-fans. It has always been. Melanie's mistake was to trash the group and thus, ending her relationship with her main audience. It is not a surprise really that the solo works were successful (including Geri's) to the point where the Spice Girls were still seen as an active band. Once that chapter was firmly closed, so where the audiences to their solo works. Of course, some works post the disbanding of the group did manage to pull through in terms of genuine success (What Took You So Long, It's Raining Men, Free Me album) but overall it was all mostly dead in the water solo-wise. No longer able to thrive based on the Spice Girls-relation anymore, the solo girls were left to either have excellent music out so that the industry/press would somehow follow or not pester them with negativity (Free Me album), or do some tie-ins with big brands (Geri's with the movie, Mel C with the German and Portuguese soap operas...). Melanie's other issue was that she released a subpar album with really meandering singles that didnt connect. Here It Comes Again was a bit meh as a pop comeback. It still is one of her worst lead singles. On The Horizon, whilst obviously radio-friendly, was such a clear attempt to jump on the New Radical's sound that it fell flat. Let's Love could have at least been tied in with a TV commercial (like it was in East Asia!) as it sounds appropriate for that. As a lead single, it would have at least have more of a punch than Here It Comes Again. Plus, it is technically the better song! And yes, by 2003 any song on Reason wouldnt have gone much more unless it was tied to any sort of promo deal that would have enhanced its media presence. Sadly, she chose to go with HICA, and killed her mainstream career in the process...

They actually do a lot for helping the artist establish themselves as a live act, and it is a thing of artistic merit to release one. So what if it doesnt set the charts on fire? It is about the body of work and would be most helpful. ONE THING that I just thought about this is that if they had released one back in 1998, they certainly would have had to do much more than their main hits and the odd album track from Spice or Spiceworld in any consequent tours. As a nostalgia act now, it certainly doesnt bode well for them to release one if they ever intend to do any more nostalgia driven tours... :blink: Otherwise, they would have to seriously re-think their set lists or release more music so that they provide something different to their standard of doing live shows without new music :arrr: They really put themselves into a corner with this nostalgia crap hey?....

Randomly, Emma and Jade's cover of 'You're All I Need to Get By' came up on the radio this morning (I KNOW!) and actually been listening to it a bit B-) It is not a bad cover at all, just a bit pointless... But it did give us some nice live gems from them... Also, does anyone remember where they did a live performance in some random TV show? Yeah I agree, the social media presence is bad... BUt honestly they and their record lable should be working more closely with publishers and promoters to literally make sure their music is more present in mainstream media and playlists... That's how you build a proper legacy, not just some social media posts... PLUS, 2 of their albums are not in print at all.... I understand Forever being back in regular print isn't necessarily a priority (though it should be!) but it is a f***ing crime that a Spiceworld CD cant be bought for a regular price... Another missed trick during the Spiceworld25 campaign

I like it and think it would have been a cute single, but it would have probably bombed too back in 2003... Having said that, I wish she had leaned more into her rock music during the Reason era. I think Let's Love or even Positively Somewhere would have made better singles than Here It Comes Again or On the Horizon, in my opinion and further establish her as a pop-rock girl.

Yeah it is frustrating, specially as most of their #1 and #2 hits are actually quite well known overall. I'd say that Spice Up Your Life, Stop, 2 Become 1 and Who Do You Think You Are might not be at the level of Wannabe, but they are well known, enduring songs that people from various generations know and bop to whenever it comes on. Stop went viral last year, and Holler every now and then goes semi-viral too. However, I do think this is partly a record label and the girls own fault for neglecting their legacy for so long. Even nowadays, they mainly promote Wannabe. But for years after Forever and Greatest Hits, the main focus was always on Wannabe instead of a broader focus onto their full catalogue like other groups do. Also, Queen and ABBA (to use the examples you put forward) have dedicated fanbases that the Spice Girls don't. They continuously released and continued to exploit their catalogue throughout generations. The Spice Girls basically neglected theirs for ages, as mentioned by some of their own members, with only the occasional focus (the musical, the GH) from 2001 to 2018. Only recently, since 2018 tour there has been a more dedicated (though clunky for sure) effort on the record lable and the girls to highlight their catalogue. Spice25 and Spiceworld25 campaigns were attempts at that, with varying degrees of success. I'd say that the girls themselves dropping the ball from 2021 again, refusing to promote Spice25 and any subsequent release, has been a definiting issue on getting their catalogue more focus again...

And gay men... the amount of gay men I know whom I never thought were particularly 'fans' but have at least a tshirt they wear out... it's wild and you can see why there are so many available <_< they sell....

Yeah I think this is very right. Spice Girls headlining would be A STORY that people would latch on to and go just because of them. Kylie is amazing dont get me wrong. But she is not on the level of the Spice Girls when it comes to this. But yes, we all agree that their own egos would stop them from doing it, sadly... That's the real story of the Spice Girls: killed by egos since 1998...

Glastonbury works differently. They are absolutely at the level where they could do a headline slot, and they would absolutely be triumphant on it. There is an expectation for that, specially if they do it at the end of a tour or something like that. The legends slot is iconic, but they are above acts that have been playing it over the past few years in terms of the expectation around it! When it comes to Geri and Victoria, well... it is a given that Victoria wont do it. Geri might... They just need to play their cards right on that one... I think it is also time for both Mels to stop saying that they want Victoria to do it as well. It's not fair on anyone and they have more than proven that they can be a stadium tour de force without her. That's enough.

I think they could (and should) pull off the main slot, personally. I understand that people easily see them at the legends slot, but they are a stadium touring force, and a girlband headlining the main headline slots would be just incredible and unique. And they are the group to do it!

Good for her, but it is Spices or nothing for me in terms of interest! And she is right, having the Spice Girls headlining would be the ideal. I could see her getting a slot for the next album promotion tour though, for sure. She did well last time doing her own slot so it could make sense

It was trully badly handled, from the music itself, to the video and the promotion... yet again, they thought the name of the Spice Girls themselves would sell the music, but what we've come to learn since the Forever era and the solo works, is that when it comes to the music itself, they *have to* put their hearts into it. They didn't during the Greatest Hits era, and it shows!

Added the song What A Feeling which was apparently rehearsed by them during the Touch era, alongside the Take Me Away, We're Gonna Make It Happen, etc. No mention if this is a cover at all. But he also mentioned that the songs admittedly weren't the best, as they were created, written and recorded in two days upon a request from Bob Herbert (their original management) so the girls could rehearse with something.

Headlines is definitely not the best. It was kind of a dead-on-arrival single unfortunately. It is not a terrible song by any means but... not only it lacks the special quality of their previous ballad, but I think most people wanted the Spices to come back with something fun and upbeat. And then that awful, terrible video. The final nail in the coffin was their reluctance to promote it at all. It had ONE mimed performance on TV. That was it, and it sucked big time. Melanie C admitted in her book that the Return reunion was mainly orchestrated FOR them, whereas the 2019 was led by them creatively. It really shows.
