What a debut album! No skips, no notes. Love that she’s carved out such a style of her own with this. She’s really put everything into it and you can tell how passionate she is about it all. She was born to be a big pop girl. Agree it shouldn’t all be about chart positions but she really deserves the world so I hope it does well this week and after. Before You Break My Heart sounds absolutely huge, would love that to take off. Obsessed with Unconditional and Natural at Disaster too.

I meant to make a thread for this when it came out, I hadn’t seen this! Really liked GOOD LUCK but this is on another level for me. 1/17, Lipsync and Bet on Me are all incredible, 1/17 is one of my favourite songs of the year 💕

My Lisa stan card is fully laminated after seeing them last night. She is such a star, so good to see Rockstar and Lifestyle live Like Jennie was incredible too (although Jennie only seemed to put in effort for her solo slot, she was so low energy for the rest of the show 🥲). Jump popped off as expected, what a huge song. I’ve seen rumours there’s a mini album/EP coming later in the year, really hoping that’s true.

I can’t get enough of this. Waco, Texas killlls me, what a way to close an album. So devastatingly beautiful.

I'll need a bit more time to fully digest this all, but wowwww at Dust Bowl, Tempest and Waco, Texas. Absolutely stunning.

I’m loving this, it’s so fun. I really liked parts of Chromakopia but it felt really bloated and was a letdown after Igor (although anything would be, it’s one of the best albums of the decade for me) and CMIYGL. I can see myself listening to this a lot more, it helps that it’s a lot more concise. Sugar on My Tongue sounds so much like My Humps to me 😂 It’s great hearing Tyler over fun production like this.

Incredible

I love this, it’s too easy to listen to it on repeat. It’s great to have a fun single like this from Mariah, it’s like a new Obsessed, so many great lyrics. Anderson.Paak is a great fit for her too, will be great if he’s worked on the rest of the album. Caution ended up being one of my favourites of hers (Giving Me Life has to be one of her absolute best, need more of her and Blood Orange), really looking forward to more new music.

I was going to try and not overplay this before the album arrived but that’s proving impossible. I can’t stop listening. It’s genuinely one of the most stunning songs I’ve ever heard, so many gorgeous melodies sprinkled throughout 😭

Can't stop listening to Nettles, it really is breathtaking. It reminds me in places of Hard Times, one of my absolute favourites of hers. Those 8 minutes fly by, I could get lost in the soundscape for hours. Can't wait for the rest of the album.

What a debut album. A new pop classic So cohesive while also having plenty of variety, no skips, nothing outstays its welcome but equally nothing needs fleshing out more. The production throughout is flawless, and her airy, breathy vocals! So dreamy. In The Rain and Times Like These rival the best of the singles for me. Gorgeous. Headphones On works so well as the album closer, song of the year potential for sure. I'm even coming around to the album cover. I just wish everything was shifted to the right, I hate that there's such a vertical line down her right hand side, the cropping is so awkward :')

Pitchfork giving this a 5.6 and calling Walk of Fame and Every Girl You've Ever Loved atrocious... I guess we can't all have taste

Ethel Cain's official second album, which is a prequel to 2022's Preacher's Daughter, will finally be out in August. She's just released the first single, Nettles, which is absolutely stunning. I need to give Perverts another listen – I don't think it was really for me on first listen, but Preacher's Daughter is one of my favourite albums of the last few years so I can't wait for this. She's so great at world-building, and the fact Nettles is all self-produced, mixed, and solely written by her is so impressive.

And Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved too actually. POSE POSE POSE POSE

Same, it’s such a smash waiting to happen. That chorus is undeniable. I can’t stop listening to this and Pretend You’re God on repeat. So perfect for hazy summer days.
